the new strings and loosened trem do a wonder.
I've recently been getting back into guitar and I'm really enjoying it.

Cool stuff, what are you playing lately?
when I'm trying to harmonize a melody would my best option be to just figure out the key and find the most fitting progression using the key's chords?
Staneh, would you say Rocksmith is a good learning tool for someone whos guitarcurious? Im thinking about buying it and a cheap guitar for myself as a christmas present
It's good for beginners with no prior experience, hell, my cousin started playing with my guitar and could actually play a couple of songs after an hour or two. It's good on the techniques, although some (like the barre chords they have you play) are a little confusing.

from a technical perspective yeah
but philosophically only you can say

if it's anything like the fender mustang IV V2, then the fender mustang III should be a good pickup for about 300 bucks.
also, christmas loot sharing time!

Fender Mustang IV V2, played with it a bit, love it. Much better than my old amp.

Big Muff Pi. First fuzz pedal. Sounds great. Wish there were more options though, but it's not like my old Boss pedals had any more options.
Lately i've gotten into gangster rap, and therefore, i want to make a metal band with a rapper, sorta like hacktivist.

Please don't. Make a metal band like Issues but instead of R&B vocals use rap.
I got Rocksmith 2014, but all i've done is play with the tone shit because I can't tune my guitar up to standard with 58s on it.
Probably gonna get that 25% off pack of cobalts and tune to standard and D

Obligatory "I got money for christmas I want to get into guitar" post
I'm not going to get into anything serious. I'm probably going to (don't kill me) buy Rocksmith, because I've been hearing really good things about it actually.
Feasibly, I could buy just a guitar FOR NOW because Rocksmith comes with that cable, and this way I can just play and practice through my computer with headphones, then buy an amp when I'm more ready.
I can probably spend around $350-$400, though I don't want to spend every penny so I'd like to stay below $350 probably.
I'm looking for a guitar that's good for some of the heavier stuff. I've peeked at Schecter's a bit, but I'd like some opinions, specifically on the Omen 6, if anyone has any.

Relax about Rocksmith, about Guitar hero any of that stuff. Especially Rocksmith though because its more productive in actually learning guitar. Musicians should be more happy that this stuff is inspiring people to get into playing instruments.
I'd recommend looking at the used stuff at Guitar Center or other places. Instruments lose a lot of value, especially higher quality ones. (Unless they're vintage guitars, guitarists are weird about that stuff).

Honestly, Guitar Hero is what got me into guitar in the first place. I've been playing GH and the guitar ever since.

yeah definitely take the time to try a lot of guitars and figure out which one you feel the most comfortable with cause you're gonna be spending a lot of time with it (hopefully)
as far as brand specific advice goes I say don't focus only on 'metal' guitars, some of the heaviest music in the world has been recorded with some of the most hippie-ass green-peace whale-lovin' lumps of wood ever
I think if you're starting guitar you should go with an acoustic (electric acoustic for Rocksmith I guess). I don't think anything can get you grounded in art of guitar better than a steel string.

Think Rocksmith dislikes acoustic electrics.

yeah if he weren't planning on getting rocksmith I would've suggested an acoustic also
if only for the moment you pick up an electric after a year or two of playing only acoustic and feel how easy electrics play comparatively

I got Rocksmith 2014 this Christmas, boy oh boy I can't wait to get home!
Too bad the DLC combined is like 5 million dollars... yarr.
Loving the sound of my guitar

There is so much reverb it sounds like a stairway to space. :v:
i got a pretty good sludge/stoner metal tone out of my amp after 3 minutes of messing around

I figure all you need to do it crank up the overdrive + distortion to 5-6, more volume if you have tube amp or tube pre-amp then have loud ass bass, after that play power chords very slowly. :v:
That's what I figured after listening to Dopesmoker once.
tips for somebody wanting to get his first guitar?
I've been playing ukulele for over a year, but I've always wanted a guitar and now that I have the money I'm looking into buying one. Do you think knowing how to play the uke will give me an advantage when I start guitar? Or is it very different? Also, I'm left handed. obviously I will have to invert the strings, but is there anything else you think I should be aware of before buying? thanks!
