DragonForce were really good. But yeah.. nowadays..
Fucking Guitar Hero, ruined their name for proper fans.
Fucking Guitar Hero, ruined their name for proper fans.
I'm pretty sure Guitar Hero's what made them popular.
Needs moar Ensiferum.
Needs moar Ensiferum.
Wrong thread, pal.
I'm pretty sure Guitar Hero's what made them popular.
god forbid anyone else get to hear the band I hate selfish fans that don't realize how small the genre is in popularity and see that the bands need all the publicity they can get
Hm. Just bought Stratovarius' Polaris. I can't decide whether I really like it or if his vocals burn my ears.
Hm. Just bought Stratovarius' Polaris. I can't decide whether I really like it or if his vocals burn my ears.
Holy shit, I totally forgot about that album. Thanks for reminding me! Spotify, here I come! Oh, and Kotipelto is a fantastic singer.
I still enjoy listening to The Valley of the Damned, and maybe Sonic Firestorm. After that, though, no thanks.
Those are good albums, but I find that Ultra Beatdown has more variety of material. Oh don't mind me, just dropping by with the most awesome shit ever(Power metal wise). And as a bonus I'll add some glorious obscure Norwegian power metal
Slough Feg. I've never heard of those guys before. Not much power in their power metal, but damn, pretty nice! Thanks for sharing. Also, the best Norwegian Power Metal band ever is Phoenix Rizing. :neckbeard:
why no Yngwie?
well I'd much rather classify his music as just "guitar virtuoso" music because really it's just music layered around his guitar solos
well I'd much rather classify his music as just "guitar virtuoso" music because really it's just music layered around his guitar solos
He's extremely good at playing fast, but he isn't really that talented of a song writer, he would do better joining a band rather than solo work.
He's extremely good at playing fast, but he isn't really that talented of a song writer, he would do better joining a band rather than solo work.
I think he's a really good songwriter. Like:

Far Beyond The Sun
Arpeggios From Hell
Fire in the Sky
Demon Driver
Rising Force
Blitzkrieg
Blue + tons more.. They're all wonderful!
He used to be in this band called Alcatrazz, but I think he got fired 'cause he was stealing all the attention. I think he would really be wasting his talent if he were to join a new band today.
Thread needs some Masterplan. These fuckers are power metal for sure, and they need more attention than they get. Plus, Jorn Lande is god damn awesome all by himself. [editline]09:38AM[/editline]
I liked them alot. But they still weren't as good as the first two. Unia and Days of Grays can go to hell though. SA are dead in my opinion.
I really like the newer Sonata Arctica stuff, simply because the drummer's redundancy throughout songs was starting to piss me off. Sonata Arctica pre-unia is great, until I stop managing to ignore the FUCKING DRUMS GOD DAMN ITS SO BAD.

Going to have to look into them more. Thanks for the recommendation! Haha, I know what you mean about Sonata pre-Unia. It's the same every song. But I tend to do my best to ignore it, and when you let them blend in with the music, the band are truly amazing. I can't say I prefer the newer Sonata stuff over their old - but it's certainly not bad.
Eh, a lot of power metal has the gallop/double bass beat, not just Sonata.

Their latest stuff is kind of lame, but Jorn Lande is coming back for their next album, so it's probably going to be forking awesome. Yeah man, I managed to bear it for a long time, but it's started wearing on my nerves. Everything else is just...superb. Still my favorite band, but sweet jesus. This is the main reason I've enjoyed Days of Grays so much, I think. They only really do it in Flag in the Ground.
Eh, a lot of power metal has the gallop/double bass beat, not just Sonata.
It's true, and I hate it when I hear it.
I'm afraid to say that Power Metal is the gayest form of metal. (User was banned for this post ("Why Reply?" - Perfumly))
I'm afraid to say that Power Metal is the gayest form of metal.
If you think Power Metal is gay, you need to research more. Also, Mastereplan fucking rocks. I really hope their 4th album comes out soon.
why no Yngwie?
I think he's referred to as "neoclassical"
I'm afraid to say that Power Metal is the gayest form of metal.
metalcore
i think that's debatable
So I've listened some to Stratovarius latest album, Polaris. I give it 7 eaglehearts outta 10. Very typical Stratovarius I must say, with a couple of boring mid-tempo songs, a bunch of filler and 2 or 3 outstanding ones. I think the best songs are The Deep Unknown, Blind, and my favourite, Forever is Today (I like my metal fast!). So overall, it's a good album. Really good if you love this band. It's certainly better than the previous releases, and from that point of view I'm very happy for them. Timo still hits the high notes and Jens is as crazy as always on the keys. Timo Tolkki left the band for this album, but tbh, I can't hear the differnece in his playing and his replacement, Matias'. Check it out if you like this band!
Been listening to this song alot lately. It is awesome.
I think the best songs are The Deep Unknown, Blind, and my favourite, Forever is Today (I like my metal fast!).
Get out of my head! :gonk:
I'm afraid to say that Power Metal is the gayest form of metal. (User was banned for this post ("Why Reply?" - Perfumly))
And it's also one of the hardest metal genres to write imo. Seriously. People who think that writing good, catchy melodies and backing it up with a strong harmony is easy have obviously never tried writing a power metal song.
The hardest genre to write for is Technical Death and Thrash [editline]11:29PM[/editline] at least as far as I can tell. [editline]11:29PM[/editline] Writing Power Metal is easy, writing GOOD power metal is difficult.
I would say the hardest part about writing Power Metal is to be original. Writing the average cheesy PM song is relatively easy, since it's very traditional music. I've written many songs myself.

I literally just made a techdeath song lol (in MIDI of course): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O3Z7WTPG
