You guys think this counts as Power Metal? (Midi whoop-de-do) http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/286442
You guys think this counts as Power Metal? (Midi whoop-de-do) http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/286442
In Midi. I think it could be. Just needs ACTUAL instruments, and power vocals.
You guys think this counts as Power Metal? (Midi whoop-de-do) http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/286442
Don't really think so, no. The riff sounds like Thrash. The chromatic scaling makes it sound prog. Overall I'd say Heavy Metal. But it's hard to say when it's in midi. Definitely not Power Metal though.
How is chromatic scaling prog? [editline]05:23PM[/editline]
Doesn't that apply to every genre? I literally just made a techdeath song lol (in MIDI of course): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O3Z7WTPG
It's hard to even write a decent tech death song, that's the difference. It's hard to make a song that would be classified as tech death because it requires quite a good bit of music theory knowledge.
How is chromatic scaling prog?
The same way pentatonic scale is Rock, harmonic minor is classical, mixolydian is Folk, etc.
Chromatic seems far more evident in Thrash where they don't give a shit about staying in key. I guess it's an element of Prog in a sense, but whatever.

So its Heavy Progressive Power Metal? v:v:v
I suppose, but if you really had to say what metal genre is the most difficult to write for in general, even if it's fairly easy, it's far more difficult to write even a simple tech death/thrash song than it is to write a simple nu metal or whatever song, regardless of quality.
True.
My old wallpaper. Made it myself. Still got a couple of more bands I wanna add, but I'm running out of space. [IMG_thumb]http://i45.tinypic.com/mm991f.jpg[/IMG_thumb]
If nothing else, it'll be handy for finding new Power Metal bands. A bit cluttered for me to use personally though. :v: EDIT: Question - are the bigger logos bands you prefer, or is it just wherever they fit in?
EDIT: Question - are the bigger logos bands you prefer, or is it just wherever they fit in?
I just did it randomly.
Fairyland? Burning in Hell rules
Fairyland, lovely name. :3: Is (or was) a great French band. Played super symphonic metal (like even more symphonic than Rhapsody). Made an awesome debut album, a very solid 2nd album, but after that the entire band split up. The keyboard player and founder still kept the name though and made a 3rd album featuring a bunch of guest musicians. Personally I think it's a bit bland. Check out the first album if you want to hear some epic shit. And nice to see someone else who has heard of Burning in Hell. They're suh-weeet. Such a shame their contract is over. A new album would be sooo cool to hear. "Believe" really was incredible.
Never Surrender and Little Indian Voice are insta-classics. They took both the most talented guitar player and most talented bass player they could possibly find and smashed them together in some weird uber-group and made pure magic out of it. Gamma Ray's first album is like "The Best Of Queen" if Queen played metal. [editline]12:22AM[/editline] Angra is pretty damn amazing as well
We have equal taste! :glomp: Angra is my #1 favourite at this moment.

[IMG_thumb]http://i45.tinypic.com/mm991f.jpg[/IMG_thumb]
Epic work dude. Just seeing Dragonland made me think of this.
Speaking of Dragonland, their new album is nigh. They have released one song, and it seems they have gone back to their roots some. To me this is a very nice welcome! Starfall and Astronomy were super, but damn.. the Dragonland Saga were fucking A+ masterpieces. Check it out! The Shadows of the Mithril Mountains! http://www.myspace.com/dragonland
I'm cringing at the name - I'm not a fan of overly cheesy Power Metal. But I'll give it a listen. Just bought a Firewind album. So far it seems OK, if a little bland. Perhaps it'll grow on me.
Manowar bishes.
Okay, now this Rad McCool is my long lost twin. I've never met anyone who likes exactly those bands as much as I do. Here's a small list of my favourite Power Metal bands: Altaria Avantasia Axenstar Axehammer Blind Guardian Conquest Crystal Eyes Dark Moor Dio DragonForce Dragonhammer Dragonland Dreamtale Dream Theater Edguy Elvenking Epica Fairyland Firewind Galloglass HammerFall Highland Glory Kamelot Kiuas Lunatica Nocturnal Rites Power Quest Rhapsody Sonata Arctica Stratovarius Tarot Thy Majestie I have a huge-ass list of my fav bands, these are just like 1% of them. And this still doesn't count every Power Metal bands I like. And I know some of them aren't even PM. But still. This is just a small piece of my favourite PM bands, and an even smaller piece of my all time favourite bands.

Jesus christ, power metal is near the worst thing to come out of metal.
We have equal taste! :glomp: Angra is my #1 favourite at this moment.
I don't really listen to Angra very much I just know they're amazing XD My German goth-metal buddy used to be into them a lot. I am a fair Power Metal fan already (Take a look at my last.fm) - but thanks for the suggestion anyway. I've not tried Gamma Ray yet. Firewind is starting to grow on me a bit. Really quite like Head Up High.
Gamma Ray will always be the best starting point for Power Metal. Listen to Waiting For Tomorrow.
"Waiting"? You mean "Heading For Tomorrow", right? Wouldn't call that a good starting point. Like you said, it reminds one very much of Queen. I think "Land of the Free Pt.1" would be a much better choice. Text book Power Metal! I also recall hearing Kai Hansen in an interview saying that people curious of the band should listen to the song "Into the Storm" as it best exemplifies Gamma Ray.
Jesus christ, power metal is near the worst thing to come out of metal.
Wrong. Death metal is.
