Their best in my opinion:

While I strongly disagree on Dragonforce* on being powermetal or just metal quite simply for my huge dislike on it, I can't help but love Kamelot over any power metal band.
Meh, my true place is in the 80'ies metal, though.
* Not to talk shit in any way, it's just an example of my mixed opinions on power metal.
Ever since the disbandment of Toccata Magna, I've been looking for something else to fill the void. Meet Yawarhiem (what?) from Peru. Excellent new band playing Power Metal with Inca/Folk influences. Their debut album was released in 2009. Check them out!

I really like this album art!

You left out Iron Maiden.
I listened to Dragonforce a while back, but I got sick of it because all of the songs sound the same and are basically about fighting for freedom in the medieval age and some shit like that... I'm not really into that kinda crap...
Dragonforce isn't representative of power metal. I'm quite into Power Metal, and don't particularly like Dragonforce. Try some others a go. They don't all have such cheesy lyrics.
PAGAN'S MIND
I know they are more on the Prog metal but the singer is MIND BLOWING
They sound so good Live aswell !

Them Live (Teaser)

Pagan's Mind is pretty decent. I like their song "Dreamscape Lucidity". But for some reason I've never really gotten into them. Norway should stick to doing Black Metal in my opinion. With the exception of maybe Phoenix Rizing, their Power Metal always come off as too rockish (like Highland Glory, Keldian, Revolution Renaissance etc).
Anyway, some new albums to look forward to this year:

Angra - [???] , mid year. Oh how I love this band! :h::h: This release will be grand! They have yet to release a sub par album.

Dragonland - The Return (?), early year. I believe they've abandoned all the space stuff and gone back to the roots. I can't wait!

Freedom Call - Legend of the Shadowking, January 29th. The title suggests more traditional music rather than "Dimensions". Awesome. Simply awesome.

Gamma Ray - To The Metal, January 29th.
Also.. YES YES YES OH GOD YES :gizz:
Gamma Ray & Freedom Call & Secret Sphere ARE coming to Sweden.

I listened to them a lot when I played WoW. Then I quit for a little while... Lost interest.
Exactly the same with me, I used to listen to Dragonforce a lot, but after a while it gets really repetitive, so I lost interest too. On the other hand, I really love Sonata Arctica and Rhapsody of Fire.
Power metal is awesome. I just wish they would pick better band names and lyrics.
Iron Savior hasn't been mentioned yet except for that wallpaper? I think they're awesome :O
I also like Blind Guardian, Highland Glory and Gamma Ray
If anyone gives a shit, I made a thread for Gamma Ray some time ago.
Feel free to visit.

Always loved Power Metal, personally my favorite sub part of metal
I haven't heard of most of the bands in this thread.

That makes you "normal".
Power Metal is a very unkown genre of Heavy Metal. I wouldn't be surprised if people only knew one or two bands.
I just discovered an epic band called At Vance. Not strictly power metal, but very cool.

They do have original songs but goddamn this is awesome.
Ah yes.. At Vance.
For me they will always be known as the band with super tacky artwork.

Last-mentioned is their best work in my opinion. Ages of Glory - so tells the Story!

I just listened to Only Human. Holy shit... This is great.
Some random albums I've listened to the last weeks/months:
Logar's Diary - Book I: Iostros

I could've sworn these guys were Italians. Debut album from this Berlin based group. Folk/Power Metal. Like Elvenking, but less violins and more guitars. This albums is not bad, but not that interesting. You can probably skip this one unless you're a hardcore fan. They've made a second album aswell, but I haven't checked that one out yet.
Highlight track: Lonely on the Serpent River
Heavenly - Carpe Diem

Are you done staring at the cover? Ok, good. This is the latest album from the French band Heavenly. Like the predecessor "Virus" this album is also mixed and produced beyond perfection. I don't really like that, but listen and judge for yourself. I would hardly call this music Power Metal, but since it's Heavenly it falls under that category anyway. It does have some really catchy tracks and I would rate this album higher than "Virus" because of that. I think I can best describe this album as "ABBA meets Metal". Check it out! (available on Spotify)
Highlight tracks: Farewell, Fullmoon, A Better Me, An Ode to Joy.
Saurom - Juglarmetal

Here's some more Folk/Power for you! Meet Saurom from Spain. If you check their profile on Metal Encyclopedia you'll see that the lyrical themes are "Jugglers, Tolkien". That's all you need to know that this will be great. And it is! Again, very Elvenking-ish. All of their lyrics are in Spanish, but luckily everyone speaks the universal language of Magic & Poetry. This is the band's second album btw. Of what I've heard from the first albums, it's not as good as this. Drink that Hobgoblin Ale, have a puff of magic grass, I don't know.. eat some pixie stix, and listen to Saurom! (available on Spotify)
Highlight tracks: La Batalla Con Los Cueros de Vino, La Musa Y El Espíritu, Dioses Eternos, Estrella Sin Luz.
Cain's Offering - Gather the Faithful

This is Jani Liimatainen's (ex-Sonata Arctica) new band. What can I say. This is Finnish Power Metal. Fuck.. even Timo Kotipelto is singing here. And the bass player is the guy from Norther/Wintersun. So yes.. it is exactly what you expect, and it's very good! So if you like that stuff you want to listen to this album.
Highlight tracks: My Queen of Winter, Dawn of Solace, Morpheus in a Masquerade.
Deafening Silence - Edge of Life

Here's a French band that's not Euro-Power Metal. This is really good. For fans of Speed/Heavy Metal this is a given! Don't let the cover fool you! (available on Spotify)
Highlight tracks: Deafening Silence, Heavenly Dream, Save My Soul.
Andre Matos - Mentalize

Andre Matos' (ex-Viper, Angra, Shaman) second solo album. It's much better than the previous one. Still sounds very Matos-ish, you know, sort of "rockish". It's good! (available on Spotify)
Highlight tracks: I Will Return, Shift the Night Away, Powerstream.
Derdian - New Era Part III: The Apocalypse

Typical Italian Power Metal. This is the third album in the New Era-trilogy. Okay, I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea what the story of this trilogy is about since I haven't payed too much attention to the lyrics. Anyway, I think this album is better than Part 2, but it still doesn't beat Part 1. Check this album out if you like Italian Power! (available on Spotify)
Highlight tracks: The Spell, Battleplan, Her Spirit Will Fly Again.
Fucking manowar?
Your posts are always fantastically handy for finding new bands Rad.
On a side note, I'm looking forward to Sabaton's new album come May (two tracks available on their MySpace), and Blind Guardian's offering still in production - but a single's coming out June 25th!
[editline]05:15PM[/editline]
I'm not done staring at the cover for that Heavenly album either. Sorry.
fucking love sabaton. Definitely going to see them live on their World War Tour.
also they released a teaser for the new album. Coat of Arms, if you want to listen. It's great, I think

Also, Edguy are fucking fantastic. Yes, they're a silly band, but I love em. And going to see HammerFall in under 2 weeks yesss
Really want to see Sabaton, but I don't know how I'd get there, and more importantly, get back. :(
My stepdad's taking me. Metalhead parents, :iia:
It's in Glasgow, I live in Edinburgh, so not that far a drive.
Also Alestorm are supporting in the UK part of the tour :buddy:
Ok, so in May, I'll be seeing:
Alestorm
Gamma Ray
Raubtier
Grailknights

You live in Australia, right? Man, everything seems to suck in Australia.
Picked up Gather the Faithfuyl today after listening to a few tracks. I have to agree with what you've said.
It essentially sounds like Sonata-varius - but that's by no stretch of the imagination a bad thing. Sounds pretty good so far.
