I bet they put on such a fucking good show. going to see them in October, should be brilliant.
Yeah, they are very dynamic on stage. They really connect with the audience.
Also they are fucking awesome musically wise :buddy:
Goddamn, I can't wait for October 11th now. What did they play?
Well Coat of Arms is in the post, should be here soon.
Well Coat of Arms is in the post, should be here soon.
It's pretty great, but Art of War is better imo
I like Coat of Arms more.
There was some talk about Slough Feg on the first two pages here. Anyway, I recently listened to their newer stuff. And I found this!
Tiger Tiger

They say the biggest problem in Power metal is to be original. Well.. that's not a problem for these guys. Wow!!
Even the cover rocks.
Goddamn, I can't wait for October 11th now. What did they play?
The ones I can remember are Coat of Arms, Cliffs of Gallipolei, Art of War, Screaming Eagles, Panzer Battalion, Primo Victoria and Metal Machine
Very nice tracklist. No 40:1 though?? :smith:
NOBODY has mentioned Luca Turilli?

Yeah they played that too :v:
They pretty much played everything that is good

Turilli rules. Dreamquest sucks though. My favourite song is probably Dark Comet's Reign (the lyrics are so. fucking. fantastic.). But almost all songs on the first two albums are extremely awesome. Black Dragon, Lord of the Winter Snow, Kings of the Nordic Twilight, Legend of Steel, Demonheart, War of the Universe, Prophet of the Last Eclipse, etc, etc...
And as always, the album covers are to die for!

Dark Comet's Reign (if you don't know this track, it's because it was only released as a bonus track on the second album)
And so unexpected came that sad mystic day
no words could have told what now was happening
It fell down quaking the Zaphyr's surface
blinding the eyes of a thousand dying men
who were looking at it falling right over them
What seemed to be an astral fireball
was hurling metal, a dark and giant starship
colliding with Zephyr's volcanic grey rocks...
grey rocks!
SPACE AND TIME
BURN IN THE SKIES
DARK COMET'S RIDE
KEEP YOUR FAITH
THE DAY...IT CAME
DARK COMET'S REIGN
DARK COMET'S REIGN!
After a long day
they reached the central hall
no trace of bodies
only computers' voice
All seems so strange in that mysterious ship
where are the people?
could there be some survivors?
no life... but there are real feelings of death...
Suddenly mournful cries echo all around
there's one young girl hidden in the fathest corner
she's shocked and afraid but at least she's alive...
alive!
Mr. Rad, YOU need a last.fm!
I love how Luca's songs talk about medieval stuff.
Mr. Rad, YOU need a last.fm!
I agree.
I would like power metal so much more if it didn't have the same 'epic hero/conqueror' kind of sound in every song I've heard of it. And if the vocalists didn't sing like that. But then I guess it wouldn't be 'power' metal.
Power metal is odd. I love the guitar, but the singers annoy me.
The singers in POWER metal annoy you? Out of every other subgenre? :v:

I always thought that one part in that song sounded like Jingle Bells lol.

They keyboard solo is orgasmic aswell. And the guitar solo of course. I tried to learn it some time ago. But damn.. Turilli's solos are always so freaking hard. :3:
Mr. Rad, YOU need a last.fm!
I tried to fix it some time ago, but it was such a hassle trying to get everything running, so I scrapped it. It's not like I need it anyway.
Helloween was pretty much the first power metal band. I'm a big fan of them and Stratovarius, but I have a special place in my heart for Edguy

I saw Edguy and Stratovarius exactly 7 days apart from each other. It was fucking awesome. :smug:
Some more albums I've listened to recently. Some new ones, some older.
Domine - Stormbringer Ruler: The Legend of the Power Supreme

This is good... It's one of my all-time favourite metal albums. It's a concept album about some fantasy book or something. I don't really care. This is fast, raw, euro Power Metal which uses keyboards very tastefully. And the riffs! Wow!! The singer!! HO-LY SHIT! My favourite track is "The Hurricane Master", but there's so much goodness here that naming a favourite track doesn't say anything. Even the cover art is incredible well done and very tasteful. If there's something bad about "Stormbringer Ruler" then it's that the production is a bit mediocre. Like, the guitars are very "loud". If you like Power Metal then you must check out Domine. Infact, all of their albums rule.

I generally don't like female vocals in my power metal (e.g Nightwish) and this was no exception. I don't know.. it's just that female voices tend to sound very professional so they lose alot of emotion. You know, everything's perfect. That's not very fun, is it? But whatever! Decent tracks overall. My favourite is Everlasting Wish in which Elisa C. Martin (Dark Moor among others) makes a guest appearance. Very good song. I don't feel that I'm qualified giving this album a rating, seeing how I don't like the style too much in the first place. But I can imagine that fans of said genre will like it alot. The cover art is really cool aswell.

Sky Lark - Wings

First of all: amazing cover art! Secondly: what the hell is going on? This is your first impression listening to this. No track on this album sounds like the last one. Overall it's not bad, but where is the power metal exactly? The Divine Gates 1&2-albums had some power metal in them, but that seems to be a tale forgotten. The songs are also very random themselves. This makes this a hard album to "get". Highlights of this album are the tracks "Summer of 2001", "Another Reason to Believe", and the last song which is a cover of Def Leppard's "When Love and Hate Collide" which is much, much better than the original version. There's also a song called "Little Red Riding Hood" which is 18 minutes long, so you know that one has to be good :P. So you've got the good stuff. And then there's the bad. Like I mentioned before, there's a very random feeling to this album that I don't care for. The production is also very strange. The drums and guitar sound very cheap. As does the synth elements. This adds some to the album's charm in my opinion, but on some tracks it just would have been better with a classic metal sound (Summer of 2001). Overall, "Wings" is a mix of gold and dirt and everyone must try this album atleast once.

Masterplan - Time to be King

Masterplan's latest! My expectations for this album were not very high (after all.. they've not made much that's worthwhile after their debut album). When I listened to it the first thing I noticed were the keyboards which are more prominent than ever. But even so I get bored very quickly with this new wave of Power Metal. I can't stand Jorn's singing here.. really.. it just doesn't work. It ends up sounding like bad rock. I'm sure this album will please those who aren't into the genre very much since it's quite "easy" power metal. There is some goodness here though. The guitar solos are all cool and original. And the track "Blue Europa" is not bad. I think it's about WW2 (not Sabaton-style luckily). If you liked Masterplans latest 2 albums then you'll like this one also.

Dragon Guardian - Dragonvarius

Dragonvarius? Uhh ok. This is a cool album. Incase you couldn't tell, it's a Japan-based band, or one-man project? I'm not sure. But whatever, this is pretty good. It's fast, epic, catchy, technical, you know, the usual. The lyrics are entirely in Japanese. Now I usually don't have any problem with listening to music in languages I can't understand, but they seem to be following some kind of storyline here too ambitiously. In every track there is a passage where the singer stops singing and begins to speak instead. And since I can't understand a word this gets a bit annoying. My favourite song is Tabidachi no Asa. Check it out!

Fuck yeah. It's amazing how well they sound live. Especially considering the production value of their albums. Their Live in Montreal album is probably the best live album I've ever heard.
Hail Rhapsody!
Fuck yes, Rhapsody. I was going to learn the keyboard solo to Rain of a Thousand Flames (gotta love the music video for that) but never got around to it for some reason.
