Fuck yes, Rhapsody. I was going to learn the keyboard solo to Rain of a Thousand Flames (gotta love the music video for that) but never got around to it for some reason.
Dead to the World piano is insane as well.
needs more manowar and dargonforce
Meh, I don't reckon that Manowar is power metal, I just think that they're regular Heavy Metal.
Brazilian Angra has now released the single "Arising Thunder" from their upcoming album "Aqua". And it sounds very very good! My expectations for this album are sky high. You can download it for free over here: http://angra2.tempsite.ws/indexing.php
That's p cool. Generally they always release a mediocre track from the album, so yeah, should be pretty damn good. [editline]04:52PM[/editline] They remind me a lot of Michael Kiske Helloween. Both the style and the vocals. Vocals don't really sound like him but he sings in the same way if you get me. Same techniques and stuff.
I revive this thread with the power of the dragon flame sword
I stand very much corrected. I could have sworn I searched for this thread a month ago or so and got an archive page. Ignore mine then :gonk:
Holy shit, this thread's back! Silent Force, anyone? Also, Power Quest are set to release their new album, "Blood Alliance", sometime earlier next year - which I'm pretty hyped for. Stratovarius will release their latest, Elysium, on January 12th. Also - a new supergroup's forming - Symfonia, consisting of previous members of Stratovarius / Angra / Helloween, which might be worth keeping an eye on.

But I haven't decided if I should go yet. :S Also, supergroups always suck. It's like, what difference does it make anyway? It's not like skills are a factor. But damn, Matos is probably my all-time favourite singer, so I will definitely check Symfonia out.
still reppin rhapsody of fire & luca turilli
I haven't listened to too much Power Metal the last months. Been drifting away from it. But here are some relatively new releases I have checked out: --- Rhapsody of Fire - The Frozen Tears of Angels Listen to "Crystal Moonlight". Maybe. The rest is just the same boring orchestral soundtrackish garbage. They couldn't even get the album cover right. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Rhapsody" is pure gold. "Rhapsody of Fire" can take a hike. --- Dragon Guardian - A Stone Monument Of Truth Sounds exactly like the previous album, Dragonvarius, but just a bit better. Every song sounds exactly the same. This must be the most consistent band in the world! I just wish that guy would shut the hell up. The best songs are "Holy Cross School" and "Sword of the Eternal". --- Angra - Aqua Probably my all-round favourite band. So I was pretty hyped for this release. It was pretty good! But not incredible. Their songs usually take a while for one to grow on, but I think this was too much. The best songs are "Spirit of the Air" and "Lease of Life" I think. They're excellent! Less can be said about the disappointing cover art.. --- Right now I'm waiting for Dragonland's upcoming album. Though my hopes aren't all that high.
Sonata Arctica are coming to Scotland in a couple months I think I will go :buddy:
Silent Force, anyone?
Silent Force's best song is "We Must Use The Power"! :v:
Sonata Arctica are coming to Scotland in a couple months I think I will go :buddy:
Yep! I'm so fucking going to the Manchester one. Seriously excited.
A current obsession of mine.
Pathfinder, wow! A year ago or so I listened alot to their demo releases. I have totally missed this release! But why is there no "Oracle's Voice"? It's their best song.. :( ) [editline]7th December 2010[/editline] Oh, they changed the name to "The Demon Awakens". [editline]7th December 2010[/editline] Fuck... female opera-style.. unlistenable..

I don't like opera style vocals. I don't mind female vocals but female operatics ruin potentially good bands.
I don't like opera style vocals. I don't mind female vocals but female operatics ruin potentially good bands.
Son, I am disappoint. I mean I can understand if it doesn't fit, but you can't tell me you think that any other style of vocals would better fit Nightwish, or Kamelot, or even Epica.
to be honest I think it kinda likely i have a twisted/exaggerated view of what is operatic or not
Is Alestorm counted as power metal? Also what would you suggest for a new comer to this genre?
Coolest album name/cover. [editline]7th December 2010[/editline]
Is Alestorm counted as power metal? Also what would you suggest for a new comer to this genre?
Take a look at the more popular bands; Hammerfall, Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian, Sabaton, etc. Also yeah kinda, probably the best genre to put it in besides "pirate metal".
You're kidding right? Some of my favorite vocals are female-fronted opera.
I don't like them very much.. but I was actually talking about that track in general. In this version they have female opera style in the chorus along with the lead vocals. This is not present in the demo version, hence my disappointment. I just find it very distracting and I dislike the sound in general.
Is Alestorm counted as power metal?
Yep, very much so.

months bump because i just figured out that Rhapsody of Fire's next album will be their last :saddowns: they've been the best since 1997 :smith:
 A little Symphonic though
Fuck yeah Kamelot. They're my favorite band even though the rest of what I listen to is death metal and industrial. I want to mention Epica in here(the band, not the album) but I don't think they count as power metal
Fuck Flag in the Ground on Rock Band 3. My brother made me play it on Pro Expert drums with him playing guitar like, 6 times in a row. SO MUCH BASS PEDAL. Good song though.
