Not my thing at all, reminds of the keytars of the 80's. I'm guessing these will be big for a while and then fade away just like they did.
It is basically an expensive synth, and you can probably achieve similar sound on a real guitar through an Axe-FX or something but i still think it's neat

You can't. A synthesiser is just too much more diverse, and it has effects too. And it's a midi controller.
It's not even meant to compete with guitars anyway
I've been experimenting with my Axe-FX Ultra, and actually you can do some synth stuff with it. I have a pretty sweet dubstep wobble bass sound going on, and you can do a lot of other synth things. It is limited by the fact that it tracks the guitar though, so it can only handle one note/string at a time or else it starts to garble up.
And of course you need seperate expression pedals/XYpads to control your sound.
Looks neat, but seems like a glorified touchpad keytar. Gimmick.
no it's not, a keytar is just a keyboard made so you can strap it around your shoulder and wear it like a guitar as opposed to having it on a stand. Not the same as this.

This digital guitar is pointless - why not a real guitar?
I see someone didn't watch the videos!
The people that designed it wasted their time

What the fuck is wrong with people. Do you honestly think this is trying to replace the real guitar? Can you produce a similiar sound with a real guitar? Then fuck off. It widens the possibilities how to make music. Maybe more electronic style artists start actually playing live too.
The price tag ain't bad at all either, no at all. Especially when you consider there pretty much are no competitors. 680 € isn't much for a regular guitar either.
How does this thing handle midi?
-snip dumb-
Looks neat, but seems like a glorified touchpad keytar. Gimmick.
Not really. The XY pad makes it completely different, and it's a proper synth/midi controller.
And you can play it sort of like a guitar
i don't get all the hate on Youtube
"you just killed the meaning of guitar"
Well if you are playing it somewhat like a guitar, why does it kill guitar? just because it has other instruments in it?
Though i can say, the sound quality of a real guitar is obviously better.
I find this funny because the guy who made this thing swears he is trying to not usurp the guitar. he just thinks of the Kitara as a specialist instrument.
The fact that OP bought it without knowing how to play guitar says everything about the target audience for this thing, in my opinion.
Elaborate. I was going to buy a guitar, but I like this style of music better. It seems as if I could do more with it.
But please, elaborate on what you mean by your opinion.
Looks useless, you lose expression & articulation because you just push a button instead of pulling a string (which can be done in 100000 ways), even if this thing is velocity sensitive...
Its actually quite different. I can map all sorts of effects to X/Y touch or X/Y drag. It can do velocity, reverb, modulation, overdrive... all sorts of stuff. Pitch Bend is just the default.
Losing expression and articulation? Are you saying Armin Van Buuren and David Guetta don't have expression in their music because its generally made up of buttons? That may seem like an extreme, but you can have expressionism in a digital platfrom, in my opinion
Congrats, you just bought a $1000 synth.
No.
There is a video on that, haven't really looked into it.
I still think it doesn't justify a price tag that heavy.
ITT: People who have no knowledge of electronic music try to bash it.

I'd have no use for it beyond dicking around but that is really cool. I wish I could try it somewhere first too.
I still think it doesn't justify a price tag that heavy.
It is not expensive as far as digital synths. No matter what you think.
Honestly, I think it's cool and all, but it sounds horrible as an instrument.
Are you saying Armin Van Buuren and David Guetta
oh my dear god why.
Congrats, you just bought a $1000 synth.
Good synths usually cost around $2000-$4000
Calling it "the world's first digital guitar" is an outright lie. MIDI pickups have been around for a long time, and there have already been plenty of guitar-shaped MIDI controllers since the 1980s.

Too bad this isn't a good synth.
Get a Keytar instead, Why? BECAUSE PIRATES PLAY KEYTARS
Looks useless, you lose expression & articulation because you just push a button instead of pulling a string (which can be done in 100000 ways), even if this thing is velocity sensitive...
I'd argue that a touchscreen can recieve much more possible input than a string could, in meaningfully different ways.
it's a digital guitar in the sense that it kinda looks like one.
if you tried to play actual guitar on it it would sound fake and terrible because we are nowhere near capable of actually emulating guitars. only general approximation.
Wouldn't this be far inferior to normal guitars outside of using it for MIDI work?
The first video with Skrillex is amazing!
anything with skrillex is usually barely average. this isn't any different.
I oppose this idea. Keep your digital techno shit off the guitar.
I oppose this idea. Keep your digital techno shit off the guitar.
I don't think you need to worry about it replacing guitars.
The fact that you can use it as a controller for ableton is really cool, and it just so happens to be in the convenient shape of a guitar.
I oppose this idea. Keep your digital techno shit off the guitar.
[good] Techno has been played on the guitar since before you were born.
[good] Techno has been played on the guitar since before you were born.
there's no guitar in techno
there's no guitar in techno
Wait shit what? I could have sworn I've heard variations of guitar in several techno songs before.
Of course, is it possible that those songs weren't techno, either.
there's no guitar in techno
But there is a kitara
Wait shit what? I could have sworn I've heard variations of guitar in several techno songs before.
Of course, they could have also not been techno.
maybe stuff that sounds like a guitar but the big techno guys like Aphex Twin, 808 State, UR, FSOL, or LFO make a point of not using guitar.
I like it. It isn't meant to replace the guitar. Would it play well with other instruments, though? Wouldn't this be a good keyboard replacement?
