Wait, how is someone who outright says they're going to do all of the programming themselves an idea guy? Do you people just kneejerk "HERF DERF IDEA GUY" whenever someone posts a thread about a game development idea instead of reading the post?
Make sure you add gungame and zombies :downs:
This thread is painful to read. Blind leading the blind.
You couldn't call it Counter-Strike without VALVe's permission.
Should call it Striking the Counter.
The idea of a first person shooter has already been done quite a bit, and it certainly has been very well executed by Nazi Zombies, but seriously: Why like Counter-Strike? Counter-Strike is a game which requires timing and precision, neither are offered by iOS devices. You might as well make a Call of Duty re-make. I can get at where you're getting though with "just an fps with rounds and money" but labelling it as Counter-Strike is missleading.
I don't think that many people give a shit about counter strike these days. Just sayin. Looks like everyones into MW2 and ARMAII or whatever the hell you people play these days so you might want to check into porting either one of those games. Dwyw.
You know why you can't find a counter strike clone on iOS? Because it doesn't work properly, look at every FPS currently available, either no one plays it or it's limited to bluetooth and they handle like shit even NOVA suffers from the same problem.

Has anyone ported HL to Ipod Touch... I think that would work like the Wolfenstien one
Has anyone ported HL to Ipod Touch... I think that would work like the Wolfenstien one
Not the goldsrc Half-Life, but I know people have done similar things with HL DOOM mods
Touch controls for an FPS suck, I want an apple brand gamepad that you plug into the charger port/everything port that'd be awesome
Can i get a copy ?
Can i get a copy ?
You didn't bother to read the thread at all, did you
meanwhile, in the programming forum, I'm spending a large chunk of my time getting animated sprites based off tilesets to work properly and efficiently using OpenGL ES 1.0 for Android, and my friend got collision working and is working on getting dynamic outputs for objects working (player object collides with button, button changes the texture of another object, etc)... Or, you know, I could have just paid some company $1500 to take care of that for me, except it sucks the fun out of it all. We wouldn't be "those 3 high school programmers who made a game on $0," we'd be "Those 3 rich kids who paid for an engine and some models off TurboSquid and sold it" Either way, we chose to have this game replace any requirement for community service (our school lets us), and we're giving 100% of profits to a charity that gives electricity and technology to kids in Africa and the poorest areas of America. We also told them it would be a chance for us to learn a lot about things outside of our computer science class, and we are already doing that. meh, usually if the OP doesn't have any proof of prior experince / knowledge about what is going on, the idea falls apart quickly. I'll just get back to these sprites now.
Good luck, I doubt it's as easy as you seem to think
Not the goldsrc Half-Life, but I know people have done similar things with HL DOOM mods
Also some of HL maps were ported to Q1 engine.
Do you think Unity would sell iPhone licenses if games made with Unity didn't work on iPhones? Are you dumb?
I meant that they don't allow apps with copyrighted names on it
Great idea, I'll be the ideas guy!
It probably would not sell all that well, Its just to hard to play anything a on screen like that
Shitty game on a shitty platform? what the fuck were you thinking?
Stop being a dick, the iPhone is a great phone and the apps are great.

Why re-invent the wheel? Companies have already made the game engines with rendering optimizations, physics, and everything to make development easier on us. The companies that make these engines make them very well, way beyond what your team of 3 people is capable of. Just look at how many big gaming companies licensed the Unreal Engine. If you think that licensing a game engine "sucks the fun out of it all" then you should look into programming in assembly, I think you would enjoy it.
Don't listen to a lot of others here. Facepunch is not the place to go for Apple or Mac related suggestions. You will get shot down 99 percent of the time unless your suggestion or question is about the destruction of an Apple product. Anyway, I say follow your idea. If you do manage to make a good 3D Counter-Strike like game, I suggest selling it for a buck or two. That way people won't mind spending money for a pretty good 3D game, and you will make bank in the process.
control failures
And then you get sued by VALVe :smug:
iphones, itouches, and ipads suck. That is all.
iphones, itouches, and ipads suck. That is all.
Please explain why you came to this conclusion?
fuck the idevice do it for android
Should call it Striking the Counter.
Opposition Assault.
Why does every famous game need a shitty port to mobiles/iPhone?
Please explain why you came to this conclusion?
No.
