Oh god Facepunch is dieing.
Forums are still going strong.
unlike ahem you want to see a dead forum? forums.bf2s.com there's like 50 active members me included.
Episode 3 doesn't exist. It's something Valve came up with to keep you in limbo buying their other games.
What other games?
unlike ahem you want to see a dead forum? forums.bf2s.com there's like 50 active members me included.
That's because the new member flow to CC was cut and we all grew up. And BF2S is based on a single game which is never really a good idea in terms of durability. Facepunch is more independent and dynamic than those forums.
have you seen how many people have joined today alone? [editline]1st January 2012[/editline] http://www.facepunch.com/fp_events.php?type=join
Even though I haven't been around as much as some of you, it has become strangely apparent me that Facepunch is dying. This is especially apparent in the "Valve Games and Mods" section where there were once tons of updates and comments but now it usually comes to a comment or two a day on a thread. And Google trends isn't really telling us otherwise: I'm just concerned that this Forums is becoming nothing but a shell of what it once was.
What do you expect? Its not like Valve releases something or even does anything at all worth mentioning every day. Last HL2 game they released was on 2007. L4D 1 and 2 are basically dead, TF2 is the only thing that keeps going sort of steadily, Portal 2 isn't exactly anything newsworthy anymore, and we don't hear anything about Ep3/HL3 which leads to people searching for the number 3 in anything Valve related. Every other subforum is going at the very least ok.
I find less time for FP these days but every-time i check back it seems just as active.

Garry's mod is getting older now, there's less reason to post your mods/addons etc on the forums due to Toybox, errors have been ironed out. A slight decline in activity is expected, I still think it's thriving though.
I've been on facepunch for a few years and lately I've noticed a same kind of trend going on. I used to ask such questions like this or questions about morality and make threads that are now of no use to me. I see a similar pattern of threads and think it must be kids younger than me that have found facepunch and are going through the same phases. I see the same arguments, same threads, same ideas that I had years ago. I hope this makes sense. To be honest, Facepunch isn't as much of a factor in my life as it used to be. I favorite threads and check those and on occasion I check sensationalist headlines for news but I know this form is very liberal biased and would rather have a neutral outlook on world events so I turn to other news feeds. Facepunch is definitely a good way to express yourself and a good community but I don't see myself using it after college.
Facepunch is much more than just discussing ValvE games these days. [editline]1st January 2012[/editline] but yeah I did use to post everyday, I'm lucky if I even reply to threads now, things change.
FP comes in waves. It'll be highly active. Then it'll drop. This is the same trend that has happened since it has first been around. Nothing really has changed. Although. It is still ages more active now than it ever has been, say, back in 04-05-06 era.
When a forum is dying, you don't make a thread about it, you find something you find interesting and post that. Discuss it, comment on it. That's what a forum is for. As long as we all make sure to have some sort of hobby and to not break our habit of regularly posting here, this will not die out. We just need to make sure that we're all contributing members of the community.

But it shouldn't be our responsibility to keep the forum going. If we all grow tired of it and would rather talk about guitars with friends rather than on a thread, so be it. It would be a shame for such a strong community to die out but thats how things go sometimes. I always think its depressing when I go to a forum and it is so dead. But then I go to other forums and they seem dead too but after a while of lurking I notice its just as active if not more active than facepunch. Its so strange because I always view Facepunch as being a constant buzz of information and posts whereas if I wasn't familiar with the forum, it would look dead at first glance. -just some related observations.
I'm only getting sick of the laggy snow D:
The forum is going, strongly in-fact. Look at how many people are looking at this thread! 125 FacePunch Studios It's also ranked 125 in the world on 150 big forums.
This argument makes me laugh every time it's brought up against video games and forums, you don't have to drop the internet or games just because you turned 21 or had a kid.
Verynicelady agrees with you! [editline]1st January 2012[/editline]
The forum is going, strongly in-fact. Big forums rank is irrelevant. We prune old posts and old posters. The number of posts you have in a forum isn't any kind of indication of how popular your forum is right now - it's an indication of how many posts you have.
Another thing you people may want to take into consideration: What about some of the very active community members that have been lost over the past few years? You know, the people that have either asked for a Perma or have just mysteriously left with little to no reason. However, the more we go along, the more community members appear to take their place. Such is an example of the new moderators. Maybe this forum will stay alive, but with a different generation. While the rest of us leave to bigger things and chase our dreams, we might have figure out what can be cut and to some, Facepunch will only hinder their growth, I know it is doing it to me. But our younger brothers and sisters may find this forum when they load up a game and search for it on google. A Circle of Life for the internet. Its kind of the same with video games. I used to be into them 100% and called myself a "HARDCORE GAMER" but over the past months, growing up, meeting friends, obtaining new responsibilities, I'd rather have physical relationships rather than virtual. I feel like I'm going on a bit of a rant and spewing any theory that comes to my mind but I'd rather this be out there rather than locked away in my mind.
2007-2008 were the best years.

I don't know if Facepunch is dying. It's been a while since I visited the site.
No. It's not dying out at all. Take a look at the Valve section, you'll see all the new people.
I don't know if Facepunch is dying. It's been a while since I visited the site.
woah i remember you
woah i remember you
Yep, I remember the good ole' lurker days as well. To think it's been 5 years. EDIT: six years, my bad I keep thinking it's 2010 for some reason.
If you want to see a dead forum, go look at any DarkRP forum. Usually webs.com domains. :v:
mikfoz years were best years also to think of my first threads, on my 06 alt i can remember my first thread it was ridiculous and i think i got banned garry had to post in it, it was me complaining how garrysmod is just like console but just made easier yeah i know silly me 6 years ago
There is without a doubt less users posting than what there used to be
It used to be huge because of Garry's mod 9 and later on Garry's Mod (10) But yeah, maybe after the new updates it will get a boost
