Don't really think it's dieing, in General Games Discussion, for instance, most threads will have up to 50 new post per hour.
There might be less posters in the GMod section, and the Valve section, but I think every other section is still as populated as it was a year or two ago
I don't see myself coming on nearly as much as I used too. I guess it comes with a shift of interests.
I've been here for 4 years and I'm not really planning on leaving anytime soon.
FP has grown on me a lot.
I wonder when the amount of active users will reduce to ~5 and Garry will eventually start to make threads and talk to himself about the upcoming HL3.
I'm gonna go ahead and say no. I've been here for so long and I just logged back on to see what was up. I don't think this place is dying. A lot of this forum now is more about the people on the forum and the things that have happened over the years rather than Gmod itself. But hey, that's just me.

The forum isn't really about gmod any more. I doubt a lot of people here even play it now, I know I don't.
I think, it had something to do with the whole Hezzy situation.
However, facepunch is still very active.
Something awful looks awful. Sure it looks like there are more older users which is a good thing in my book but the layout is awful there is no programming section and even though they are older they seem to act pretty immature.

The forums are really outdated as well.

How can you miss the word COBOL, unless your "programming" is limited to babbys first language like java

Wow I've been here for almost 6 years...
Also I doubt they are immature as they are building one of the first amature rockets to space

I know what COBOL is I just didn't see it under the eye raping text.
To be fair it is a subforum.

So hard to see when you click on the Tech forum

Gah it is like the 2nd thing from the top

I wasn't in the Tech Forum.
Plus all the text kind of blends together with the layout/font.
Facepunch is still lively, and it's even more accessible to people now that all the fascist Grammar Nazi shit and cynical assholes have been (largely) removed.
Granted, there has been a decline, mostly due to the lack of Gmod and Source related content these days. (Hl3 will never happen, Valve is way to busy making more virtual hats to sell!) But it's very slow and barely noticeable.
Even if FP is going to die, I think it's going to be a while.
Garry's Mod has already peaked. It's a 7 year old game man.
I found the facepunch layout much sexier than the SA one.
I've been here for quite a while, and I've seen a lifetime of events over my lonely Internet life. However, I think it's safe to say that the Golden Era of Facepunch is over.
The forum was most active back in 2006-2008, when Garry's Mod was the shit and everything was poppin'. Facepunch was bustling from the mod - it became the forum's lifeblood.
The name spread across the internet, causing Facepunch to swell in weeks' time. Content was churning every day - RP_Hometown1999, Pirate Ship Wars, Ravenholm Armory - and with the the release of Episode One and the Orange Box, GMod became even larger. Smaller 'splinter communities' were born, such as the famous PHWOnline. Users became famous overnight with simple but innovative ideas and creations.
However, no one wanted to believe. Believe that the Golden Era would fall.
And when the truth finally dawned, it dawned in FIRE.
More specifically, the collapse of PHW.
Looking back, the release of War of the Servers was the climax of the Era. LitFuse Films emerged, and the continued prosperity of the community seemed inevitable.
Then, the inevitable occurred.
Overnight, PHWOnline dissolved into civil war. LitFuse Films and the PHWOnline Forum was engulfed, leaving a gaping hole in the Garry's Mod community. GMod trundled on with more advanced Lua creations, but many of the community's figureheads have vanished into the void of real life. Thus, the Golden Era collapsed, leaving behind only faint memories.
Now, in 2012, us Facepunchers are witnessing a sad end to a remarkable period. The Mayan Calendar was only close to a single cataclysmic event - the steady decline of Garry's Mod as we know it.
With the Golden Era come to a sudden and violent end, GMod is slowly marching into the sunset. However, the fates of Facepunch and GMod are not exclusively linked. It is very possible that Facepunch will still be thriving in 2015, as the community is no longer Garry's Mod centric. Daily life continues; Garry makes sudden changes and frightens the entire forum. Moderators go about their business banning the spammers and idiots. The Ticker continues to pulse with news of the latest posts. Many smaller forums are expanding and growing with each new post and thread.
Indeed, another glorious era of Facepunch may be dawning.
No one can say.
Our days on this forum are numbered, and every user will reach a personal, Internet-life-changing event that may end their existence here. My personal memories were gems such as the good old days on the Mapping and the (now sadly extinct) Pixel Wars subforums. But alas, those days are long since passed.
Every Facepunch user will eventually drift off into the tantalizing grasp of reality. But more members will find this forum, join, and leave a mark here. Facepunch will continue to march on, until the very last members depart from these grounds and the soul leaves this forum.
Although thats a bit over dramatic, its very true.
and did you SERIOUSLY intro that skyrim style?

Just as I'm listening to the Skyrim theme on youtube as well.
The fuck waii is dis happenin'
Yes, we are nothing but a big corpse.
I'm honestly scared of what will happen when Facepunch finally dies. This is the only forum I ever go on now, even after years of lurking. I left the Steam Forums because it's a rotting piece of shit, but where will I go when this forum dies? I spend so much of my time on the internet here, and the community is awesome.
I think Facepunch is just simply going through a phase of decline but it will spike up again sometime this year.
It would be even better if Episode 3 got released because it would alert people about Half-Life and they end up having a higher chance of stumbling upon Garry's Mod and Facepunch.
Then they can see all of the sections that Facepunch has to offer and can join in on our discussions.
This place isn't going to die just yet.
