Keep your head down, and safe return!
You do know basic training is only like, 8 weeks. You will see your parents then atleast. Then you will go off to your training school (don't know what they call it in the Army, Air Force calls it Tech school) that can be any amount of time depending on what job they give you (you don't pick, this is a lie). Again, you will see your parents or anyone who comes at the end of that, unless they are cold bastards and don't want to see you, or cannot go for any reason. After that they will send you to a base were you can contact your family whenever you want, play online games with them, IM them.... Skype, the whole works. Even if you get deployed, my mom still talks to my dad in Afghanistan every night. This isin't 1940, contacting your loved ones in the military is fairly easy. Though usually when deployed, the soilder has to call home. My brother hasn't called home in about three weeks now.
The army is glamourised. They specifically target young people by making it seem like an IRL video game... I mean look at America's Army (the game)
Wow it sounds like you've got the entire world figured out, you should try your hand at figuring out world peace. Good luck.
:patriot: Godspeed. Lol I'm late at saying good luck, who the fuck hasn't said that.
Thank you for serving. Good luck.

Why wasn't I invited to this party? [editline]06:51PM[/editline] Jerk.
My cousin is going to Afgan in a year, and I am pretty sure the chances of him or you dying are lowish. Good luck though.
Hate to say it, Afghanistan is worse than Iraq right now. Tell him to stay away from the east... you don't want to be there. Getting ambushed is like a once a week deal. Tell him to get as far west as possible.
Sorry mate, but going into the army doesn't help any americans unless they're in Afghanistan.
Because only Americans matter right?
You made me cry. :frown:
words
Lol dude.. it's not that bad depending on your MOS. I've been in for 4 years and in 2 separate branches of the military, just don't let the asshole drill sergeants get to you. Anyways what's your MOS? I'm a 19K(M1a2 Tank Crewman but they're using our company for the most part as infantry.. mostly glorified tower guard though -_-'), in my prior service job I used to be a 8404 Navy Corpsman and I'm currently in Iraq as I type this. EDIT: ah fucking hell I'm late, give me a bunch of late ratings.
Good luck
Good luck man.
Where are you going to be stationed? In Afghanistan in Meymaneh? If so, i might be stationed there as well, as an civilian chef cooking for our troops. (Norwegian) But that's a few years ahead in the future though.
Woo go kick some ass if you are still reading this
The likelihood of you getting killed now is not that high. But good luck.
Whatever you do, don't die
I don't go to fight or to kill. I don't go for a sense of duty and honor, or to further myself vocationally or educationally. I go because I want you all to be able to continue. Kiss the person you love tonight, enjoy every minute of your job tomorrow. Do your homework quickly, so you can spend your time with the friends you hold closest. Live a lazy life, or reach out for any seemingly impossible achievement you could imagine and know that you have what it takes to win it so long as you're willing to sweat. Live by your code and be happy.
Kinda conflicting don't you think? Also I really think you'd be wasting your time, there's a fairly good chance you won't be seeing any action so what's the point really.
I could never be a soldier, I pretty much refuse to risk my life for my country. It's full of idiots and ungrateful people. But good on you for deciding to fight for what you believe in. :)
You've got more balls than me, at least. Here's hoping you don't get mangled by a mortar or rocket.
Good luck. I really liked your threads. Again, good luck
Best of luck to you, BDA. come back once you're done, and tell us how it went.
I'll tell my friends to set up a special IED for you [editline]f.[/editline] [/sarcasm]
Kill Obama, wait OSAMA for me!
Best of wishes, I hope you have a successful career in the military. Enjoy it!
What the fuck, i started to slightly cry. Im such a big pussy.
