99% of the people coming into this thread belong to a NATO country which means he is putting his life on the line by enlisting to protect yours. Not only American lives, but those of all free people. Being a US Soldier means more than to simply do what you're told and kill the enemy. Those who choose to serve are dedicating their life to the protection of all free people and the destruction of all who would see that freedom taken.
Though the recent war in Iraq was clearly about oil, previous wars and the war in Afghanistan show this dedication.
