.357 is an excellent round... I would argue it as in the top three for pistol cartridges ever made.
.357 Mag, 10mm Auto and 9x18 are obviously the best cartridges ever.
.45ACP instead of 9x18 but otherwise yeah.
I may be wrong, but when you use the traditional rifle grip (like an M1 or M14), when the rifle recoils instead of going straight back, it goes up on a semi-auto or bolt action its not that big a deal, but with a full auto one burst and you're way off target. When the M14 was introduced at full auto, it was completely uncontrollable due to it's recoil. but the M16 with it's pistol grip was more manageable because the recoil went straight back instead of up.
I'm sure you know this, but that's a pretty poor comparison since 5.56 is literally like 3x lighter in recoil than 7.62x51
7.62x51 rifles in general are useless on full auto, pistol grip or not. Good luck keeping on target in full auto without a bipod
Also regarding the AR15/M16, what a lot people leave out is that the design itself is excellent at mitigating a fair amount of muzzle rise and movement in general.

Overrated and expensive
please never buy anything in 9x29. you'd be better off just getting a .357 Magnum
It isn't a pistol it's a semi auto rifle
It isn't a pistol it's a semi auto rifle
9x29 was meant to compete with .357
the round itself is good but you're never going to find any of it and you'll get a total of 12 rounds out of the gun before you never see another 9x29 round again
That sucks because it was a beautiful rifle.
What is the order, from best to worst, of SKSes? Usually in my area Yugos are very common, but I didn't quite know how they stacked up compared to others.

I realize that, but it was the first comparison I came up with right off the top of my head when it came to pistol grip v rifle grip.

yugos are the most common and generally not terrible, norincos are the best that I'd be willing to take to a range. Soviet or Chinese Honor Guard variants are the best but are extraordinarily rare.
If you're gonna bubba it anyway just get a yugo with a chromed barrel
I don't plan on tacticooling it, so hopefully I can find a non-Yugo.
Shit, Russian ones are hard to find down south? You never see anything but Russian and Chinese ones up here, and can get a Chinese Military one for $75 if you buy ammo, and the Russkies are $180.
I've only ever really given quick glances-over and I usually see half or more with rifle grenade-mount.

regular ruskies and chinese ones are all over the place, I'm talking about the ones the Honor Guards used. all the metal parts are chromed, rather than just the barrel

What is that some kind of pump handle replacement?
I'm considering getting a Norinco SKS for about $300 from a local shop. Any details I should look for while inspecting the rifle to determine how good its condition is?
hello this is your daily reminder that 5.7x28mm is the best round and always will be
there's a reason why it's expensive, it's because it's worth what you're paying.

Way more comfortable than wrapping your hands around Remington's shitty BRITL-PLSTIC (R) dildo forend.
those angled foregrips are terribly uncomfortable. horizontal is good and vertical is good but somewhere in between will always be shit
[editline]14th May 2012[/editline]
if it was closer to the trigger it wouldn't be so bad but way out there it just sucks

If I send you the money for one can you ship an SKS to an FFL dealer down here for me to pick up? Or can citizens not send firearms across national borders?
Or perhaps could one of your dealers do it?
I want a $75 SKS
[editline]14th May 2012[/editline]
Anyway okay guys I need to make a decision before Thursday.
Here are my options:
$425 7.62x39mm 16.5" Carbine Saiga, At shop (No FFL + Shipping Fees)
$250 JW-2000 Norinco Coach Shotgun, online (FFL+Shipping)
$??? Saiga-12 Shotgun, At shop. No idea about price probably around $425-$450
$340 .22LR Tactical Rifle, At shop
$400 Scoped 91-30, Online.
I don't know what I should get

I know learn to use the iron sights yadda yadda but nagants and scoped rifles both please me dearly

I like the AFG, on a rifle. I don't think it would be very comfortable when racking a slide. VFG's all the way if you want a grip on a shotty. Then again double barrels are make you look like a cowboy.
That .22lr tactical rifle isn't a Mossberg, is it?

I'd go with either Saiga option... Saiga 7.62's are nice for the price and their shotguns are like the Honda's of the gun universe.
hello
this is your daily reminder that 5,7x28 is a bad, overpriced, proprietary round made by FNH because they hate civilians and want us to pay a shitload for a round that isn't really that great
there's a reason why it's expensive; you need to fund FNH's trips to the moon for harvesting spess pawlymers.
did you take my post seriously
Okay so, Prussel is assuring me it'll work but I want to make 100% sure before I do it. I'm going to go for the 7.62x39 Saiga, and I'm looking at the SSAK Slidefire Stock that Slide Fire Solutions sells. It says it fits "most stamped receivers" and Prussel is assuring me that the Saiga 7.62 (Since it's a Carbine AK type, not a hunting rifle type) will work with the sliding stock, effectively allowing me to have an AK-47 for about $200 less than if I bought a Romanian AK-MV and did it.
I want to be 100% sure though. WILL this work?

I don't remember what brand he said. I'll call and ask tomorrow and let you know.

I own a Honda and this made me chuckle.
It IS a reliable motherfucker.

As far as Pruss goes it will most likely work. It is an AK receiver after all... Though personally I wouldn't want one... after seeing them and how they work I would rather have a regular trigger and grip... but that's just me.
Oh and by Honda I mean parts for it EVERYWHERE.
*Opens up E-mail* Ah Centerfire Systems you have sent me another set of deals... *Peruses the deals* Saiga in 5.45 for $350 with free shipping... if only I wasn't poor.
Your Saiga will need to be converted before the Slidefire stock works on it.
Your Saiga will need to be converted before the Slidefire stock works on it.
Converted into what? It's already an AK variant with the AK style pistol/grip and stock with a stamped receiver.
I'm turning 18 soon and I'm planning on getting a semi-auto rifle.
I was thinking probably an AK type rifle. I just want something cheap(under 500), semi-auto and reliable.
