My dad has a m1 carbine, and that part is just covered by the top handguard
Not on originals.
Worst you might get is a blood blister if you got pinched between the operating rod and the stock, maybe a bruise if you jammed your fingers in there and then fired the gun, but what would possess someone to do that is beyond me. Would be more worried about putting your fingers behind the charging handle if you're gonna do something stupid with it.

I had a feeling it wasn't an original stock.
Ill try to get a picture of it some time. im not sure if ive posted my dads AR-15 yet. Ill get on that now

turns out i dont have a picture of it.
its not that cool looking anyway, pretty much just a standard m4-looking ar-15 with a ncstar acog on it
On a M1 garand,

this part moves with the bolt, do fingers ever get caught in there and mangled?
You'd have to have a real death grip on it to get your fingers in the track when it cycles...

I've never had my fingers messed up by the operating rod of my M1. It's not very noticeable when firing, the stock has a lot of space to grip underneath it anyways. I've given myself Garand thumb but that's a whole other story.
I've had a realization: I don't get Australian gun laws. You guys live in a country where literally every animal on the goddamn continent can kill you and you're not allowed nary a handgun.
I mean, Christ, if I were on the subject of snakes alone, I could count off at least a dozen deadly species that could easily slither their way into your home, and that's when I could see a revolver or a handgun with snake-shot coming in handy.

i am very tempted to cut my nug down and turn it into a jawa's emp blaster
i've got an extra dragoon here somewhere...
Wait, you would destroy a Dragoon to build a Star Wars prop?

That actually sounds like a worthwhile project
Isn't that an Enfield not a Nugget?

But that's an enfield!
But I'm poor! And if I got an Enfield I wouldn't sodomize it like that!
well, unless i can land a junker for 100 i won't make it into a jawa blaster
Why would you do that to a gun anyway?
The only thing I can imagine that doing is making it louder. And Nagants are already LOUD AS FUCK.

You could always make the fat muzzle thing a silencer so it would have a real purpose, other than being an akward flash hider :v:
Like, seriously, Nagants are the loudest guns I've ever fired.
I went to a gun range and one of the guys was firing a S&W .45 and both him and the guy in the lane next to me were wearing these REALLY GOOD earmuffs the range had.
They BOTH shat themselves when I fired my Nagant.

what else will i use to deactivate droids for my clan's droid dealership?
ALSO
Wouldn't cutting a rifle that short be illegal?
IIRC rifles have to be above a certain length. That looks way too short.
and seriously, i want it to be LOUDER
that's what the grenade cup will be for, it's not a silencer
it's a loudener

So I just got back from the gun shop. I guess I misread the price tag the S&W 15-22 was actually $440 not $340. But that's okay. It'll be a fun gun, I know it.
Ended up getting 2 extra magazines, a box of Federal .22LR, and a pistol grip to stick on the rails. Going to return one of the mags tomorrow when I go to pick up my shotgun because fuck I forgot it came with one and I hate odd numbers.
[editline]17th May 2012[/editline]
Haha I have to return one of them anyway on account it won't hold all 25 rounds.
Hnng
Private seller is selling a SPAS-12 (fixed stock) for 850€ and a SPAS-15 for the same price. Do want.

Don't discount it so easily, some mags have a break-in period, they need to have the springs loosened up. Try taking it out more and attempt to load the mag full then empty it and try again to wear in the spring. If after about a dozen to two dozen loads it still won't load 25 then take it back.
I ordered green furniture for my AR. I can't wait for it to get here. I also ordered a broomhandle vert grip. I've got a vert grip on it now but it just seems too beefy and I can't seem to get over the fact. It's a Tango Down vert grip, supposedly one of the best on the market, but like I said I can't get over how beefy it is.

Hush you I need to return it anyway. The fact that it won't hold all 25 rounds is only a bonus so that I don't seem like as much of a wishy washy jackass to the store owner :v:
Also the other two loaded all 25 very easily.

Kind of disappointed to learn, however, that this Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 is built with a fixed/built in stock. So I can't take it off and give it a slide-fire.
Which in all honesty I suppose is for the best. I doubt I'll buy an actual AR-15 so it'd be stupid to spend $300 on a $440 gun chambered in .22LR.
Why would you return a mag just because you don't want an odd number? That doesn't really make sense to me.
I am in need of FP's vast knowledge on firearms during the 19th century.
My English teacher today was talking about buffalo in the western plains, and how in 5 years Americans killed nearly 10 million buffalos in 5 years. She then says that buffalo hunters would shoot so much in one session that their barrels would get so hot that they would bend and start to melt.
Is there any truth to that? I've never heard of it before.

I find that hard to believe, you'd have to shoot an ungodly amount of rounds to get a barrel to bend, let alone melt. All this in a relatively small amount of time, and the shots would scare the buffalo away wouldn't it? and the fact that they mostly had muzzle loaders back then, further increasing the time between each shot
