Oh I certainly wouldn't carry it in any sort of self defense measure, that's what my XDm is for, but a gun is a gun and I want to know where I stand legally in regard to public events and staff if I have it with me, I am able to lawfully open carry such a pistol here.
I just want to publicly humiliate these idiots because they're out there 'educating' the public on these things. They're the type who believe anything older than WWI was a piece of trash that barely worked, the old "This gun only fired half the time!" and that's what they tell people.
They have such a lack of respect for these guns that they're going to be firing blanks at each other, at close range despite me warning them not to.
I mean hey, public embarrassment worked on the Stun Gun guy at the gun show here, he hasn't been back since I intentionally zapped myself with one of his "tazers" in front of everyone and somehow I wasn't knocked out.
I don't like to be such an ass, but if someone is gonna go around spewing misinformation that puts people in danger then that's a problem. Stun Gun guy was selling those little spark gap guns as self defense weapons that would knock out an attacker after 5 seconds, course if you've ever zapped yourself with one you'd know they're just painful and more likely to make your attacked beat you to within an inch of your life THEN take everything you have.
The Ren Faire morons tell people the usual bullshit you hear about Flintlocks like misfires, "bark worse than the bite" and so on which just cultivates a lack of respect for guns that can maim you in the most horrifying fashion if you're lucky/unlucky enough to not be killed by it.
Also it'd probably take me about 12-15 seconds to load the Flintlock pistol, less once I practice with it a bit, but I doubt that'll happen because it's probably gonna be sold off shortly after I finish it. Besides, I'm gonna carve the wood under the endcap as a carving exercise rather than leave it hollow, would NOT want to be whacked with a solid chunk of black walnut covered with a thick brass cup, mind as well go at someone with large ball peen hammer.
I went and bought a little round face lock a couple months ago, I was going to put on a rifle with a set of interchangeable barrels of different calibers but I'm gonna build a different kind of rifle now and the lock I have won't work with it very well so I'm just gonna mount it onto a pistol and find a new home for it. It'll be good practice in build techniques before I have a go at my fancy rifle.

I understand where you're coming from, trust me.
That being said, this truly depends on whether or not this is a privately organized event, and whether or not it's operating on private or public property. I can bet you anything that they won't allow any sort of projectile weapon simply because of the fact that unlike bladed weapons, they can't be peace-tied, and they're definitely not going to take your word that "I swear it doesn't load/I won't shoot anyone".
Anyone familiar with open carry laws? I wanna open carry a Flintlock pistol I'm gonna build next week to a Ren Faire here in Idaho to piss off the bastards, they're idiots who wear pirate outfits and make guns from plumbing pipe and 2x4s then claim to be expert gunsmiths (Just like on American Guns actually).
I gather the property owner can ask someone to leave and charge them with trespassing if they don't, but what about event coordinators and/or staff?
Oh cool an Idaho bro, don't we have just the best gun laws? anyways, unless there is a specific rule for the event that says no real guns I wouldn't worry about it. You could just say its deactivated if anyone gives you shit.

You live in Idaho. Last time I checked, Idaho was a Permissive Open Carry state. So you could if you wanted to.
Just to be on the safe side I'd contact your local police department and make sure that hasn't changed.
How do you guys feel about Norinco products? I've always been extraordinarily hesitant to purchase anything from them because they're Chinese manufactured.
Chinese=/=Quality
Their early stuff is good, I have a Norinco SKS from the mid 70s and is a great weapon. The only thing that is not good is the trigger pull compared to an AR15.
sorry for perpetuating the argument earlier
i'll try to be less aggressive
I've seen some very bad things from Norinco, and some pretty sweet things. It's really just what you're buying.
FYI Eugine Stoner made a designed a rifle with a piston, the AR16. This in term evolved into the AR-18 that was developed after he left armalite to work for colt. That rifle influenced the SA80, AUG, and the G36. So in a way Eugine Stoner helped develop some of the best rifles out there.
The more you know.
Stoner was a very clever guy. It's a real shame that the AR-10 platform got picked over the AR-16/18, because they're incredibly well thought through designs.
Anyone know where I could get 8 round 9x18mm magazines for my PM? I can't seem to find anything on google (other than sold out listings)
Hey guys, where can I get a good Lee Enfield for a decent price?
That being said, what is a decent price for an Enfield? :V
Which model are you thinking of?
Well, that's one of the things I need help with. I sort of looked them up but i'm still a little confused.
Can you or someone else sum them up for me?
Thanks in advance.
[editline]30th May 2012[/editline]
I'm also interested in buying an SKS to compliment my Moist Nugget if I don't get the Enfield
Any suggestions?
If it's a sporter they tend to go for about $120-$200, but I wouldn't pay $50 for one. Cheaper milspec ones go for about $300-$350, select grade ones go for $700-$1000, and any original configuration snipers go for upwards of $5000, all prices in Canadian dollars and Canadian markets.
In the US I think they're about $100-$200 more on all but the last tier. Also, .303 ammo runs about a buck a shot, so get some reloading dies.
SKSes in the US run about $300 to my knowledge, for a cheap Yugo one. I hear the Russian/Chinese ones are about $500. Up here in Canada there are no Yugo ones ( I think, like, 1 company imports Yugo SKSes, because we can get the Russian and Chinese ones the other fakes aren't very popular) and the Russian/Chinese ones go for $175-$230, with the folding bayonet, ammo pouch, and cleaning kit.

I got my Norinco "Paratrooper" SKS for about $300. Price is right for the Russian though. It's a damn shame we have those import restrictions.
[editline]30th May 2012[/editline]
Also does anybody know where I can get a bayonet kit for a norinco paratrooper SKS? I don't think the regular kit will work because of the shorter barrel length.

Mother of god
I'd rather go with an actual Tigr or even a PSL or Zastava M76/M91 than some HK-expensive Norinco SVD.

Got my Russian SKS for $350.
Went to the range today, a buddy bought a Remington 700 in .308 so of course we had to go shooting. Was a good time, besides the massive scope-eye I got after about 5 shots because I stopped thinking.

What country are you in?
That heat shield seems awfully expensive... dunno, nice shotgun though.
I have an original one, it's a blast to shoot. I know nothing about century really though.
Don't go with the Century.

No. get a model 12, throw an 18 inch barrel on it, and get a heat shield with a permanently attached bayonet milled.
