Hey HellSoldier, because I know you just got your PAL, you may want to check out Wolverine Supply's subfroum on the CGN forums, they've got a shitload of surplus crap on sale for pretty cheap and they're taking offers for even cheaper. I'd direct you to their website, but I don't think they're advertising it there, but I know they are on CGN. You could get yourself something cheap to start out that's a real gun, not some .22.
Ya, thanks man, I've been checking out CGN for the past while now and I'm definitely going to get a few surplus guns from Wolverine or any retailer on there, really. Probably going to spring for a Mosin Nagant and an SKS later on, I almost have to. Being a Russian immigrant I'm almost obligated to carry some piece of associated history with me. Until then, though, I'm waiting on my 18th birthday present Mr. Mannlicher Scout.
How can anyone think .308 and 30-06 are interchangable? Look at the diementions

For starters the overall length differs by over 10mm, and the base to sholder length is out by 10mm...
You MIGHT be able to cut a 30-06 case down to 308 length, then use a progressive resizing die to make a 308 case, as there base dieamiters match

I think I came a little. What handgun is that?
[editline]15th February 2012[/editline]
Not the revolver, the pistol.

MP443, the newest Russian service pistol, with the Nagant, the oldest Russian service pistol
[editline]15th February 2012[/editline]
Second oldest, actually :v:
That is easily the sexiest Nagant I've ever seen.
What's the finish on that?
base diametres are different
.30-06 and .45ACP are identical but .308WIN is smaller
[editline]15th February 2012[/editline]
and the reason a lot of old norwegians believe they're interchangable is that in the 70-80-90s, gun licenses for rifles in .308 and .30-06 were issued as "7,62", not .308, .30-06, 7,62x51 or 7,62x63
thus a lot of people with old mausers in .30-06 went to the gun store, bought .308 and fired it in their .30-06.
Uhh, what? Can't you read? It says right there that the base dimentions are EXACLY the same
I've been told that too that .308 in .30-06 is perfectly fine, but I figured I shouldn't try it. When the subject came up in class, and we compared the .308 round to the .30-06 round, I atleast was slightly amazed at how big the differences are actually.
Prusse, if your course teacher tells you it's safe, tell him that he makes gunsmiths cringe and tell him to get rid of all his firearms.
The shoulder diameter on a .308 is much bigger than on a .30-06, therefor you will need to force the round into the chamber, BUT IF YOU HAVE TO USE BRUTE FORCE ON A GUN, IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THAT WAY. The .30-06 however is so long, that it won't chamber, making it obvious that it isn't supposed to be that way.
Also, all this talk about .30-06 have reminded of the few people that pronounce it "Three thousand and six" (I've only encountered this is Norway, yet it disturbs me greatly)
[editline]14th February 2012[/editline]
In Norway they are at around 400 Euros, with the target version at around 700 Euros.
(Before any other Norwegian comes in correcting me, this is all based off XXL.no's prices)
Why are they that expensive in Europe?
Does anybody know the equation to find out how high a bullet will go when fired directly into the air? I remember there was some mathematical equation to figure it out, but I forget what it was.

A combination of Norway generally being expensive and that the gun has to be shipped across the atlantic before getting here.

Depends on how precise you want to be, if you want to just account for gravity:
Vf^2 = Vi^2 + 2a * DeltaX
Where Vf is final velocity (aka zero) and Vi is the initial velocity (muzzle velocity) and a is the acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s^2), and DeltaX is the displacement of the bullet, IE: how high it goes
If you want to be really precise you would probably have to factor in air resistance which is a whole other animal especially as you gain altitude

I'm getting it aswell.
But nuggets are supposed to have the shit beat out of them.
I remember a few years back we had 3 Gpmg's out and I was the loader on one of them, well the gent firing had set the gas wrong so he ended up getting a runaway, he pressed the trigger and was in such shock that it continued to fire the belt on it's own, so he got up and ran away. Leaving me like an ass.
did you twist the belt to stop it?
I don't attend school nor work ATM so I need something to do. :v:
Make trench art. That's always fun, and you seem handy enough to make a truly interesting piece.

So what is an example of this for say, 7.62x547r?
I went with an SVD (830m/s muzzle veloc, 800m effective range)
350 000 meters
I think I might have miscalculated.
That's over 200 miles...you're wrong.
I was looking at that semi-auto 22 catagory chart and It is wrong. My best and favorite 22 I own is a Mossberg 702 and they put it in the shit catagory. What retard put it there?
I want a Ruger 10/22 for mucking about with, like maybe put an archangel kit on it too and do some run and gun excercises with it. If I only had the money for it.
did you twist the belt to stop it?
yeah, changed the gas too, standard IA drill.
Are you sure that isn't lifted yet?
Also, they are selling the archangel kits on Finn :v:
So what is an example of this for say, 7.62x547r?
It would go about 35147.9 meters up (from an SVD with 830m/s MV)
Seems high, but again that's just accounting for gravity.
Ding dong the registry's dead!
Which registry?
The long gun registry!
Ding dong the registry is deeeeeeaaaaaaad!
It passed 159-130, with the support of 2 opposition members. Now all it has left is the easy stuff, getting passed the Conservative-majority senate and getting the ascent of the Governor General, but by mid-March it should all be gone!
