IZZA DAMN FINE SHOOTER, SON
Well living 50 feet from the desert is pretty nice for shooting and all that. The positives pretty much stop there though.
Anyone have any experience with a Sig P229 by any chance? Saw one earlier and thought it looked like a fun little pistol to shoot.
I have a P228. Same gun, but different manufacture method for the slide. Love it. Awesome gun, great feel, very accurate. Replaced the combat sights with Trijicons, though.

So my bud had three other weapons, a Ruger .22, a Mossberg 12g, and his own MN 91/30 made in '39. My 91/30 has the darker wood. He used to have an AR but he traded it for a dirt bike I think..

I loaded 10 rounds with my Mosin and I aimed at the target at like..what, 60-70 meters out while kneeling and that was my shotgroup, 4 total misses.

I'd ideally want a P228 but the P229 is standard issue for the coastguard if I'm not mistaken, so I assumed it'd be easier to get hold of.

Firing it without ear protection? Have fun with tinnitus.

Looks like he has plugs in.
The P228 is no longer produced. The 229 still is, though.

Looked like he just had big earholes at first glance, haha.
Also that's good to know, thanks.

I bet it's the barrel, the thing was bought back in '98, it's gone through plenty of use, and we haven't changed the barrel in that time.
Just waiting for the incoming shit storm after a shooting

I'm surprised it isn't in here yet. It was suggested almost 12 hours ago that discussion regarding the weapons in the main thread should be moved over to here.
Thankfully it hasn't, It's never good when the uninformed try to talk about gun laws and gun safety. Always surprises me how people can talk out of their asses when their heads are shoved so far up it.
A lot of news articles are talking about how that insane asshole had like 6,000 rounds of ammo stocked up. Also had as many magazines along with it, with various other things. They also specifically mentioned him using hi-cap drum mags they sell for AR 15s.
I have this feeling that magazine and internet ammunition purchases are going to somehow change or be under attack in the coming weeks.
It fucking sucks really, I feel for all those people, really do. It is depressing to think about what happened, i can totally understand why they would want to restrict guns and all that shit. But we all know from a logical standpoint gun restriction isn't going to work.

Ammunition in bulk sales and high cap mags might come under attack for the next few weeks or so, but I doubt anything will change.
Better than the calls for pistol bans here in a wake of 4 separate shooting incidents in Toronto, but the dumbass Liberals always dance on the graves of the dead to push their hoplophobia. After the Ontario Attorney General said he believes "civil liberties are an American thing," he's just made it blatantly obvious they want to disarm people so they can strip their rights away without opposition. It's disgusting.
there is one good point the amazing athiest made in one of his recent videos
liberals are usually pretty good about things like "hey making drugs illegal just creates a black market so let's legalize them" but when it comes to guns a lot of people are like "put down restrictions that create a black market!!!"
So I have a bolt-action Marlin 881 that looks like this:

I rarely get to shoot it, so I was thinking about perhaps selling it and using the money to go towards a handgun, such as a Ruger SR40 or something like a Springfield XDM. Any advice? I was thinking I could get a minimum of $200 out of it.

Maybe I'm a bit extremist but I think every working American should get a large tax break for carrying a firearm. We're doing the police's job by carrying, why not get rewarded for it?

I'm hoping this post is some kind of joke because carrying a gun != doing the police's job.
I got my first gun yesterday.
It's Ruger 10 22 carbine. I'm going to shoot at the range as soon I give it a good cleaning and a red dot sight.
Anyone have experience with aftermarket stocks like Tapco?
Tapco is shit. It's injection molded junk and it makes you look like a huge tool. Get a Hogue..

How so? Ideally, if shit goes down armed citizens are first response. I understand that neutralizing threats isn't all the police do but it's an important part of their job. I'm making every cop's job just a little bit easier and safer when I carry.

okay yeah if citizens are armed there is a likelihood that threats will be taken out sooner. I'll give you that. but the police exist as so much more than threat neutralizers, like, it's just stupid to say that by carrying a gun you're doing their job
[editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
you can hold a shovel but that doesn't mean you're a landscaper
The function of the police is to serve as a public safety official by enforcing laws and being of general assistance to the masses. They will do everything from giving directions to apprehending suspects. IIRC, they are even required to give you a ride if you ask them, that doesn't mean they're a taxi service but if you ask nicely (Even then I'm not sure they're required).
I can give directions too
I'm not trying to say I might as well be a police officer or trying to take away from what they do for us, but the fact is people who carry a firearm are capable of protecting and serving the masses.
Maybe "doing their job" isn't the right choice of words, but it carries a lot more power than "helping."
