Just hold the rifle/shotgun tight to your shoulder and you'll be fine. If you have a small frame you might be a little sore the next day if you put 100+ rounds through whatever you're shooting. Your body is a lot tougher than you think it is.
Yeah, I had it up really tight to my shoulder, still was a bit tender, I think it was just because it was my first time shooting a gun, ever. At least the recoil wasn't as bad as the sound, wasn't using ear protection since it was outside. But dear god, when the BAR fired I could feel the vibrations from 5 feet away, ears rang for a good hour afterwards.
Thanks though, I'll try and not be such a wimp next time I get a chance to fire a gun like that.
I bought a Model 29 today.

always wear ear protection when you're firing, no matter what gun it is or if it's outdoor or indoor. Almost all of my relatives that have hunted ears are ruined because they never wore ear protection.

I know that, but it wasn't really my choice, the guy who was buying the ammo wouldn't buy any ear protection, said we didn't need it.
He got a headache from it afterwards.
finger off the trigger
My finger is actually on the frame.
Bought 80 rounds of 300 win mag today for 40$. I love my work discount.
Problem is... I don't have a 300 Win Mag. I'm thinking a Remington 700 in 300 with a bull barrel and an Accuracy International AICS. Time to hunt the two down

I first misread that as your relatives hunt ears :v:
My finger is actually on the frame.
but..
I see the bottom of your finger curving around the base of the trigger.
but..

That's just an optical illusion created by the defused shadow of the trigger being projected on my finger by the camera flash.

I don't wear ear protection when hunting, or when using a .22 outside. When hunting I need to be able to hear things, and .22 just aren't loud enough to cause me discomfort

Yeah, I was surprised with how quiet the .22 is, made about as much noise as a pellet gun.

Buying ammo does not count as a waste of gas.

Try out an Academy store, they tend to have just about any type of ammo you'd need in the gun department. Though from what I've seen, that ammo is pretty expensive right now. Don't remember the exact price though.

And I was fine hunting with you without ear protection till you shot a kangaroo with my M44 right next to my ear.

New ammo for a little bit more.
Also why not just buy a spamcan?

Get some proper ear-pro then, I have a Peltor Headset that cancels out loud noises, yet can boost small noises, I got it as a birthday present, but I think it's around 100-200$ And that's ear-pro that will last you some good time, the last headset I had was a Peltor Kid set I got when I was 4 :v: and used until I was 18

Well, when I have $200 lying around, it won't be spent on earmuffs, rather, it will be spent on my firearms safety course so I can get my firearms licence

Buds gunshop is good, and they have very snappy shipping. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=A76254B

All are good places to buy from, I'd recommend buying a spam can of 440, or 2 with 880. For the price you get them at you just can't beat it. If you buy 880 rounds you won't have to buy ammo again for a decade.

I don't wear it for a .22 either, but for rifle calibers and large handgun calibers I always wear it.

.22 out of a P22 is loud enough that I wear hearing protection, but .22lr or shorts out of a rifle I'll go without hearing protection.
those .22lr cartridges that have barely any powder are quiet as hell
it was in one of iraqveteran8888's videos, things barely made a pop.

I think it sounds best out of a revolver, still sounds like a powerful gunshot, but it's still subdued enough to not hurt your ears.

well the rifle cartridges have just enough powder to push the round out of the barrel, but the pistol cartridges have literally no powder, it's just the primer. dead quiet. at least compared to regular .22lr
For fucks sake guys here's another photo I took within seconds of the one I posted, are y'all happy now?

A question for any Canadians in this thread:
According to Wikipedia, you guys are limited to 5-round capacity magazines for semi-auto rifles, but for manually operated rifles, there isn't a limit. So, if you had an AIA M10 rifle in 7.62x39mm, which is bolt-action and uses standard AK mags, would you be allowed to own unpinned AK mags or what?

I can shoot my 30-06 about 5 times without a pad before I say fuck this. Sure my body can take it, but I can't.
Recoil has never been a big deal to me in rifles. I can take anything you can throw at me. With handguns though I have trouble controlling anything that kicks harder than a 10mm, though target shooting I can do with anything all day.
recoil was worst when I started off shooting but now not even a 12 gauge can faze me
