Also, for cleaning a .22, is there any cleaning kit in particular that's better than another? I was given 10/22 that a friend owns and he paid me $70 to get the thing clean, the problem being that I don't have a .22 cleaning kit. There is so much crap in the barrel I can barely see the rifling.
Anything Hoppes plus any old cleaning kit works fine.
Go to a gun store and see if you can find some nice used 22's or 17's, probably a good place to go look around and get a feel for what you might like.
The company is on verge of becoming vapourware central (invent 78543853 new guns, produce ten of each gun a month and sell them to an obscure gunstore in a forest in Uzbekistan).
The firearms are made out of two brittle plastic plates (because moulding/casting is for tools and people who want a sturdy gun) and held together with screws.
Knowing you I'd figure you'd pay a lot for the gun that'd be protecting your life against the freedom hating communist Arab suicide bomber nazis, but apparently not.
Sounds like someones been hanging around prussel
Alright, I got my financial aid info back, priced out my books and now I know roughly how much I can spend on a cheap to shoot target rifle. I've got about $350 for the rifle, maybe a bit more if I stretch a bit, to spend on some kind of rifle to shoot paper with, maybe pop prairie dogs out in Montana when I visit. Caliber doesn't really matter to me, but I'd prefer rimfire since it's dirt cheap so I can shoot forever. I know that the CZ 452/455 are great rifles, and I'll check around my local gun shops to see if I can find a used one that's still in excellent shape for a bit less, but I'm also looking hard at the Savage Mk 2 or 93R17. I know that .17HMR is a bit more expensive, but I've also heard it makes a better target/squirrel round since it's a hell of a lot faster than a .22. If anyone has any other recommendations for rifles, feel free to tell me. I'll also need some kind of scope, preferably reasonably priced, but not cheap. I've never had to buy a scope for anything before, so I have no idea in that area.

mossberg 702 + all the ammo the store has or a ruger 10/22 + most of the ammo the store has
[editline]28th July 2012[/editline]
I have a mossberg 702 and can easily do nickel size groups at 100 yards with it, it's incredibly accurate for such a cheap gun, only real downside to it is that nobody really makes hi cap mags for it so you're limited to 10 round factory mags and that goes quick in a semi-auto gun. you can always weld two factory 10 rounders together though.

I'm incredibly surprised you guys still haven't realised.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we all have.
I have too many options for what I want.
Agree for TT-33 or clone
Disagree for CZ-52
Funny for Makarov or clone
Winner for Hi-Point Carbine in .40S&W
Reply for suggestions of other stuff for under $400. I'm looking for something in a pistol caliber mostly.
Honestly it's a tie for me between the TT-33 and the CZ-52.

Get a jag kit, the one I have has brass jags going from .17 all the way up to .50.
In fact, everyone should have some nice brass jags if you don't have some already, those things will clean a gun incredibly fast with just a damp patch, especially if you double up on the patches, then you run an oiled patch down the bore to protect it and call it done.
TT-33 is more reliable than a CZ-52. CZ-52s tend to have problems with the firing pin. CZ-52s are also lighter and flatter if that's your thing. I wouldn't hesitate to take either one personally.
if you go TT, get a yugo clone since the safety doesn't suck

ONLY SILLY AMERICAN WHO NOT KNOW RIGHT TARGET NEED SAFETY, COMRADE TOKAREV KEEP SAFETY OFF BECAUSE IS JUST IMPEDE KILLING OF CAPITALIST PIGS.
But seriously, it's really gay that you guys need to have a safety added on to it, when they come up to Canada they come factory refurb from wherever the fuck in Russia, usually shipped through Germany and stamped with some gay-ass UN export stamp. And they're fucking $170-$210 for a Russian one that usually come with 2 mags, holster, cleaning rod, and sometimes a lanyard.
We actually don't get fake Toks here, and the only fake SKSes we get are usually Chinese, there's one place I've seen selling Romanian ones.

Why can't more businesses be like this?
I'm incredibly late on this one, but I'd hang this in the lobby of my hypothetical future business.
Glock 23 pistol with hollow point bullets made to inflict serious damage!
A .50 bullet range is 5 miles guys!
I really need to shoot, its been too long since I shot my saiga 12.
so, firearms thread, anyone care explaining why the springfield xdm is bad or do people just complain about it being "ugly"
i mean, i've fired both of mine (.45 and .40) about 150 rounds each with no jamming, so why is it bad?
It's not bad, it's a solid pistol.
I think XDs are sexy.
I want gun good for storing in my car. Being semi-serious right here, it should be appropriate for zombies or Russian paratroopers. Some features I want
- cheap
- rails or aftermarket rails that I can install
- cheap, common ammo that has decent stopping power
Some guns already floating around in my head
- SKS carbine
- AK-47
- 30-30 lever action carbine
- pump action shotgun
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
why don't you just carry a makarov or something
Zombies = Anything relatively accurate in .22lr
Russians = are you crazy

with .22LR you absolutely have to do headshots. I think some big fat 154 grain 7.62x39 out of an SBR with slow rifling would be my weapon of choice against zombies
If you're gonna fight some Russians/Commies/Significant Others you may as well fill them with true American bullets

But .22LR is hella cheap, extremely common, and you can carry a ton on you. All good things in a hypothetical zombie apocalypse.
Same goes for 12g, save the "carry a ton on you" as they're significantly larger than .22LR.

I would literally just have a double-bagged shopping bag or one of those workout bags full of .22LR or 12g during the zombie apocalypse and just grab from them whenever I need ammunition. The key to staying alive is to never provoke a large group of them and to stay out of sight and to stay quiet, right?
.22LR is also easier to silence because of the grain-count, and if you're just going around popping quiet headshots, you'll be good

.22 is the zombie round, it has enough oomph to penetrate the head, is common and you can find it almost anywhere. So that's why I choose Remington, classic American pride, putting Zombies in their place.

Yea, when you're shooting at less than 50m, have no cover to shoot through, and can make a perfect brain shot every time.
No.

The Joke
The Joke

A joke would have been funny
Okay here's what the joke was.
I was making fun of all the old commercials that describe a common everyday task or burden that can easily be accomplished by a brand name item that can be bought just about everywhere. However, this time was that it's about using Remington brand .22LR to bring down zombies, whilst talking about it like a happy old man who's sitting on his porch holding a box of ammo surrounded by corpses of zombies with nice clean holes in their head. The small text was the subtext that is occasionally shown on commercials to guarantee that it's an ad from said company.
Happy?
