Remington 700 is a great rifle, I just don't understand why you need .300 winmag to shoot boars. 30-06 is expensive enough. I'd go with .308

boars are tough. I've hit them with .30-30 and it just bounce off
Around here the teaching is that you are supposed to drop whatever you are hunting in the first shot if you are using a rifle (so not just go with a less powerful round to save money). Otherwise people would look down on you as a really bad hunter if you coulden't manage that.
Our local gun shop just got an all matching M38 (labeled as a M44) for 150$.
Hope this new job kicks off soon before someone snatches it up.

Oh gods, I'm seriously jealous right now.
Try to scavenge those $150 as soon as possible. You MUST purchase that lil' Nugget.
what's wrong with you people
how can you not have a couple hundred bucks laying around?
Would anyone go for a copper plated 1911?
Think a shiny penny on this:

Plus, if you let the copper corrode, it could look blueish green like the statue of liberty. I guess that would be kind of cool.

Day I turn 21, I'm buying all the booze I can fit in my trunk and a government issue 1911.

What could possibly go wrong

I agree with that. I wouldn't take a .30-30 if I were actually hunting boar. I shot it because boar around here are particularly violent and I'd rather eat pig than be trampled by one.

Yeah I make sure my bank account doesn't dip below about $500 just in case a deal like that comes up

Still, you don't need to go from 30-30 to .300 winmag. That's like going from hitting a nail with a hammer to hitting it with a crane driven pneumatic hammer. It's over kill that will break your bank. .308 should kill your boars just fine, and if you feel you need that kick move up to .30-06. Down in Florida I use my mosin to ping the bastards, and the 7.62x54 (which is balistically similar to .30-06) works just fine.
Totally off topic but I just thought of this. Do you still have your trans am?

I used my No.4 to hunt boar in California. Didn't fire a shot, still got the pig. :v:
Personally I wouldn't hunt boar without a bayonet. Stuck that thing through the shoulder with my No.9 and that did the trick just as well as a bullet.
Would love to go again but there aren't any wild pigs in Idaho.

7.62x54 is closer to .308 than .30-06
I won't be able to fire the rifle more than 2 or 3 times per year, since I'll only do it in my dad's cabin in the Patagonia. All in all, i probably won't shoot more than 300 rounds, so it's easily affordable.

Friend and I decided it was too good of a deal to pass up, so he bought it and I'm going to pay him later for it.

M38? Nice!
Are M38s worth something now? I still have mine I got about 10 years ago for $80, been looking to get rid of it. Never really liked it much.
Well they are the most uncommon of common Mosins. The price increased over the years so they average to about 250$. Happen to find this one for 150$ I'm assuming they thought all Mosins are priced the same as a M91/30, since they thought it was a M44, then changed to to M38 but the price didn't budge.
About how much would a Colt Government .380 cost?
I'm thinking of getting one as well as a set of Lee powder measurement cups (those yellow ones) to load some hunting ammo.
I use them. They're not bad. But I'd really prefer to have an electronic measure...
Comes with a slide chart with almost every powder available, and a conversion table for which cup to use for whatever grain count you need.
7.62x54 in Canada is so cheap in surplus (and even bulk MFS) that people don't tend to reload it, so I couldn't tell you, but Lee dies usually come with powder measures of some sort with them, as well as loading instructions. Because it's a popular round, a die set should come with 3 dies. The cheapest Lee press (it's like $50 here, not sure how much it is elsewhere) is pretty decent for starting out, but you have to keep swapping the die you have in it, as it'll only accommodate 1 at a time. As for a tumbler, a kitchen colander and hot water should do fine unless you're looking for like UBER PRECISION MATCH GRADE, which is kinda useless for a Mosin.
