I am considering to buy a Nagant Revolver, is there anything I should know about them before I buy one? Also, is ammo usually readily available, or should I buy some up when I buy the gun, like how people stock 7.62x54R?
The ammo's out there, just not as cheap or common as 7.62x54r.
You can usually find it by the can for pretty cheap at gunshows
what happened to bean-o
What do you guys think of the gun though?
Alright, here's your Ammo Question of the week:
What would you rather use for long range hunting deer? (Affordability is out of the question)
.408 CheyTac
.308
.223
7mm Magnum
What do you guys think of the gun though?
It's a solid revolver, pretty significant for it's time considering it sealed the chamber to the bullet, meaning it can be silenced. Only problems with it is the way you reload it, and it fires an odd ball round thats not as common as most other pistol ammos.
7mm Rem Mag personally, .408 is a weird cartridge and hard to come by, .223 lacks the power, especially at that distance, and I'm not sure how well .308 would perform at a distance. I know often people compare 7mm to .30-06, and .30-06 can get a fairly good distance while maintaining its take-down power.

define "long range"
long range to some is 200 yards, long range to others might be 1400 yards
[editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
either .308 or 7mm Magnum depending on what you call long range.
Let's level that off at 950-1200 yards.

What is the problem with reloading?
out of those choices 7 mag but I'd probably go with .338 Lapua if I could choose any cartridge.

no speedloaders, you load it like a ruger vaquero or similar

223 & 308, thats all you need for hunting in wooded areas like Wisconsin.
[editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
another great thing about Wisconsin is the concealed carry law!
What is the problem with reloading?
you have to push the bullet out with a little rod, turn the cylinder, and do that again for the rest. It's not that bad, just takes forever.
saw a m95 at the pawn shop today for 6.5k
god damn that thing is bigger in person
I know a guy who has one and he has to wear a boating life jacket when he shoots it.
Can't the Nagant Revolver fire .32 ACP and .32 Magnum without modification to the cylinder?
[editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
Wait, not ACP, I meant .32 S&W.
It can fire .32 S&W long or .32 H&R with the original cylinder, while to fire .32 ACP you need to change the cylinder.
Alright, cool.
Also, what all is involved in getting a C&R license?
Well one video review stated that using anything other than the 7.62 nagant ammunition will cause casing ruptures and other case related issues. (his words, not mine). In the shooting portion his gun, a single action-only officers model, showed very poor accuracy at only 8 yards.

7mm Rem Mag has a flatter trajectory than the 30-06 or .308. This comes at the cost of higher recoil than a 30-06. It's accurate and a hot round, you just have to be willing to deal with its recoil.

No problem, it's my dad applying for it. I'll use him to get all the guns.

you have to be 21 for any form of FFL
Can't you have C&R guns shipped directly to you?
Or is that just super old guns? What qualifies for that? Also, because I'm only 19, can I still register for a C&R license?
[editline]29th August 2012[/editline]
FUCK someone answered that already.

You can only buy antique guns without an FFL. Any gun made before 1900 is considered an antique, I believe.
1898 is the cut off.
It has to be made prior to 1898 to fall under the antique category. Although, I believe that only applies to the receiver, the gun could have had a complete overhaul at anytime and would still be an antique if the receiver was produced in 1898 or before

if you have a C&R license it works just like having any other FFL but only applies to guns over 50 years old or on the ATF's list of C&R guns. You have to be 21 years or older to hold a C&R license.

it's 1898 or earlier, not earlier than 1898. if it was made in 1898 it's fine, if it was made in 1899 it's not.
So why can't I get a C&R license at 18? This shit just makes no sense to me.
Gotta stop them teenagers from doing drive byes with k-31s.

Because many handguns also fall under the C&R license and people under 21 can't own handguns.
