I would say fairly difficult
I understand that, that's not what I'm asking. The original 10rnd integrated magazine is fine and all, but how hard is it to convert an original trigger group to accept detachable magazines?
either get one of these http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/MAG-634 or deal with the worst feeding issues you'll ever experience
Yeah, crapco made some mags that will fit an SKS without modification, just remove the 10-rounder and it fits in where that used to.
I've never thought about why would anyone do that to an SKS. Why deface an old gun like that when you can just buy a Saiga sporter, getting a similar weapon with detachable magazines and shit, and call it a day?
The crapco ones involve no permanent modification to the gun, meaning the stupidity is reversible, but they still look like shit.
I just want to get a modified trigger group so I can have the original, sexy trigger-group with the integrated 10-rnd magazine. That way if I want it original I can put that on, and if I want to dick around with AK mags and drum mags I can.
trust me, you don't want detachable mags on an SKS
Thats not due to the detachable mags, thats due to the fact that he didn't wind his drum up properly.
trust me, you don't want detachable mags on an SKS
You can get SKSs that take AK mags, get one of those and that will never happen

It may be a poorfag loadout, but damn is it nice. [editline]3rd September 2012[/editline] Wait how is that a poorfag loadout, that's the Competition model! That cost 650+!
I've been thinking about a rifle I can carry with me when I start hiking. Is an AR-7 a good choice? It's only 2.5 Lbs, and I've seen a lot of aftermarket items for it.

Easier take down, better sights, and the magazines are easier to find for those guns.

Yeah, the AR-7 is only for survival hunting small game like squirrels and raccoons. A .22 aint gonna do shit against anything that is an actual threat to you. You want a small gun to defend yourself while hiking? Get a magnum caliber revolver.
Or a breech-loaded shotgun (single barrel, o/u, you name it). Cheap, easy to handle, and depending on the cartridge you choose it can kill anything from little squirrels to tyrannosaurs.
Shotguns are fairly practical for survivalists as far as I know, because you can hunt both birds and small game, or go with more powerful shells or slugs for maximum power. It all just depends on the type of shells you are using. I really want a pump action or half-automatic shotgun, but since I live in this small and careful country, shotguns are limited to two rounds, so I don't know if I even bother. I want to get a hunting license for shotguns at some point, but the problem is that I have to get a safe for weapons installed where I live to keep a weapon legally, and my (rented) apartment is probably too small for that. If I end up getting a shotgun, I'd probably just get a Baikal o/u IJ27 Sport or something cheap like that, then maybe a more expensive gun later on.
