Or a breech-loaded shotgun (single barrel, o/u, you name it). Cheap, easy to handle, and depending on the cartridge you choose it can kill anything from little squirrels to tyrannosaurs.
I'd trust a 10 gauge slug against just about any game, and I wouldn't be afraid to use 10 gauge birdshot against a squirrel.
Firing 84 rounds from my 1911 is good for the soul.

Now imagine 10-gauge 00 buckshot vs. squirrels.
Blood for the blood god.

Pity that in my country any shotgun in a gauge bigger than 12 can't be classed as a hunting weapon and has to be registered as a Common one instead, meaning that if you buy one it fills one of the 3 slots available for common weapons, AKA nearly all handguns and pistols, and certain long guns.
That sucks, around here it's just a non-restricted, hell the store I work at has a 10-guage BPS and Browning Gold, both in winter camo.
Does anyone have Izhmash on speed-dial? I want to ask them if they're ever going to make a 10-gauge Saiga.
Went to my grandparents house for a BBQ today, and had a chance to ask my grandpa about his guns.
He showed me a 25 year old Ducks Unlimited edition Marlin M60 (never fired!), an old Winchester Model 94, a new in box, never fired Colt 1911 CCO, a .44 mag S&W deer revolver (complete with a 4x scope), an M1 Garand, a Springfield M1903A3, and too many shotguns to count.
I love my grandpa.
I don't even...

http://www.nrablog.com/post/2010/08/30/Isaiah-Jennings-All-Metal-Breechloading-Flintlock-Rifle.aspx
It's a 12 shot, .44 cal Flintlock with a removable metal stock.
Superimposed guns scare the shit out of me, one mistake in the powder measurements and that's a very bad day right there, especially with 12 loads in the thing.
Does anyone know of any takedown shotguns?
That aside, I like the look of the Ruger 10/22 Takedown.
http://armscollectors.com/mgs/savage_north.htm this is not ugly at all.

Those are much harder to find, and much more expensive. The easiest way i can think of is to find a used coach gun for a cheap price, learn how to disassemble it, and carry it in a backpack or bag. Another option is to buy a Henry and Richardson single barrel survival shot gun that takes .410 and 45LC which around $350. Repeat the same steps for the single barrel as with the coach gun.
I've been thinking about a rifle I can carry with me when I start hiking.
Is an AR-7 a good choice? It's only 2.5 Lbs, and I've seen a lot of aftermarket items for it.
You could get yourself a sub-2000. They're ugly as hell but they fold up nicely and come in 9mm and .40 S&W. You can also use high cap glock mags if you purchase the version that takes glock mags.

Good point. The catch is actually finding one. Keltec weapons are a rare find at gun stores. I saw a Sub2000 at a gun show, but it took M9 mags, not glock mags.

I think you mean Harrington and Richardson.
Also, look up the Turkish Hatsan Optima single-barrel, it's a break-barrel whose barrel folds all the way around and even has a slot in the grip cut to fit the trigger guard.

Video shows right at the beginning it comes in the box folded like how I was trying to describe.
I've got 320 dollars I can spend on a rifle. Looking for something with a caliber higher than a .22lr.
So far I've pretty much narrowed it down to:
Mosin Nagant 91/30
K98
Savage Arms rifle (There is a plethora of them below 300 dollars)
Maybe even a shotgun?
I too am searching for something I can hike with. Unfortunately, you can't buy pistols from FFLs where I live at 18.
A ruger 10/22 is nice, but if I get one, I'd like to have a bipod and scope so it looks a bit like a 'real' sniper. Those are a bit expensive from what I've seen.

pick up one of the finnish M39 mosins if you can find one. One of the most accurate rifles you'll ever find, you could hit sub-moa with it no problem. With about 50% blue left they go for around 300 even
I've seen people make 800 yard shots with ironsights with both the k31 and the m39. for what its worth, 7.5x55 shoots a little flatter than 7.62x54mmR
Mosin M38 Carbine

I'd avoid a K98 for 300$, the ones I've seen in that price range typically weren't in very good condition. Like the others said, a finnish mosin or a K31 wouldn't be bad choices.
I'd say Finnish M39 or Swiss K31 or M1911 as well. The Swiss rifles are real tack drivers. And surplus ammo is still available, although a little more expensive than 7.62x54r
I'd personally go for the mosin, ammo is cheaper. 7.5 ammo isn't as cheap, ~.50c a round from what I've seen, but you still can't beat 7.62x54r in cheapness.
I went full cowwadooty today.

It was on sale at wally world for 20bux (originally 40). Figured it would be a fun fuckaround optic.
I'm impressed at the battery life, forgot to turn it off max before going to work and 5 hours later its still shining bright.

was watching Sturmgewehre's newest video on shotguns. He did a sort of mini-review of the vest he was wearing, the SOE 12ga Micro rig (which is very cool and I think I'm probably sold on it). Naturally, I went to check out the site.

No!
Male-Female troop integration hoooooooo!
So apparently, my 1911 needs a new extractor. Lovely.
looks like firing 84 rounds through the 1911 was good for the soul, but not good for the gun :V:
Extractors seem to break often...
I finally got it.

Gerry approved.
Extractors seem to break often...
My friend has a Taurus 1911 (I told him not to buy it) and his extractor broke after 2 magazines.
