I've just noticed something... In every video I've seen regarding the 'need' for 'commonsense' gun control, all these idiots have no trigger discipline, are putting loaded magazines into the rifle/handgun and are usually aiming them at someone. Are they trying to look irresponsible to make it look like they have a point..?
Your argument is dumb and flawed, you don't live in a fucking warzone, you live in your parents basement. You're not cool or edgy because you were conscripted into the military, you're not badass looking because you can dawn a baklava and knee pads. You're not above gun safety because you went to boot camp, stop acting like it. If you don't end up killing yourself, you'll end up killing someone else. Be responsible with your firearms.
Don't worry about me. I have been violating these rules since 2006. Its been 6 years since i purchased this makarov. No accidents happenned, and never will. And your argument is invalid. I live in my own apartments in one of the most baddest banlieues of town. Most criminal banlieue. [editline]7th September 2012[/editline] Again, this depends on the type of the pistol. I wouldn't do the same with Colt 1911a1, it's single action, it requies just 1kg to pull trigger. It's dangerous. Same with TT33. Makarov has double action mode, which is 6kg. It's safe.
A part of me agrees with you that you may live in a more dangerous place but you can't have no respect for gun saftey [editline]7th September 2012[/editline] Oh lol nevermind
In seeing all the amazing stuff you do, Raptor, might I ask how you support your hobbies? It seems like raising an emu and building/buying the stuff you do would be very expensive.
Getting the Incubator was pretty expensive at $150, but the eggs were $20 a piece, and it only costs about $30 once every 6 months to feed Gerry, even less now that he's getting off the Chick starter. Probably be at $30 once every 3-4 months when the other two get here. But I just have the patience of a saint (You definitely have to have a lot of patience to sit and wait 49 days for a bird to hatch anyway). I pick a goal, add 10% to the cost and set aside a percentage of my earnings until I have enough money. The Ruger didn't take me too long to get because I'd already been saving up for a Flintlock I was going to build but the Ruger seemed the wise choice considering the political climate right now, would rather not be helpless to another AW ban. It's all about how you manage your money, then you can afford all sorts of things though you may need to live a little spartan for awhile to speed things up. As much as those Steam sales may gnaw at you, set priorities and stick to em. But I get money through my Blacksmithing and fabrication business here, and additionally from that I have a LOT of scrap metal left over for all sorts of things. The wood I'm using right now was bought by my Grandfather in the 70s though.

Fuck, I'll take an AR for $189.
Fuck, I'll take an AR for $189.
Someone on Reddit did the math and $189 in then would have the buying power now of about $1450!!
pshhh nobody uses an AR-15 for hunting!!! everyone just kills people with them murderers

The block I had picked out for the grips was exactly wide enough to cut two grips. So I did. [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/12Uud[/img_thumb]
Just to get an idea of how hard that wood is, I milled it. Right one was milled with a carbide burr, took about 30 minutes at 3,000 RPM in my drill press. That's some serious heartwood right there.
You decide on what you're going to make the butt-stock look like?
A twig
Maybe I'll put a fishtail on it. :v: Who knows, might not be a bad idea, just level off the top of the tail, rounded instead of angular. Just need to make it work with the adjustment lever, I don't really want to make a new one. May have to do that though, I'll just make it from brass and have it so it sits flush with the wood and is depressed into the wood when pushed. Problem is really the size of it, it's such a sort piece that I can't use the long flowing lines I'm used to drawing up. The whole idea is to just replace the plastic and keep the metal components in their original configuration.
or you could go with my idea because I think its pretty awesome
that or maybe a shortened A2 style stock with an extendable buttplate. I'm thinking at shortest length the rubber pad would be right up against the buffer tube, but if you extend it about 2 inches of wood is attached to the butt and that's attached to the rest of the stock by 3 or 4 metal rods, one is bent upward and presses into the holes in the bottom of the buffer tube and is adjusted by pushing down a pin that goes through the stock and is held in place by the tension of that metal rod and pulling back the stock
I went shooting with a friend the other day who had just gotten an Ontario bayonet for his AR. Bar the German sawback, it's the most intimidating bayonet I've ever seen. However, for some reason, the ring is not snug around the barrel and has quite a lot of wobble to it. I'm assuming he's missing a piece, like a nut or something, but I don't know anything about that and neither does he. Google hasn't turned anything up. Does anybody else have any idea? I can get pics next time I see him if necessary.

A friend of mine saw my Mosin yesterday, and was blown away by the fact that it had a bayonet :v:
or you could go with my idea because I think its pretty awesome
I'm having trouble visualizing it. I drew up these though, they're basically chopped up/shortened versions of this BAR work-alike I put into ArmA 2 while ago. Basically the adjustment lever would be replaced with a new brass lever which sits flush with the stock, which when depressed is pushed deeper into the inlet. I'll also add an oil tube recess to carry an M1 Carbine oiler or something, and a steel or brass buttplate (Lee-Enfield style buttplate on an AR-15 anyone?).
Oh god I can't wait to see this finished.
obscenely rough mockup that doesn't explain how it could possibly work those two look good too though, and so does that MG42 stock
An extended MG42 stock would look pretty snazzy, I would think. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
Just to get an idea of how hard that wood is, I milled it.
Is your mill water-cooled, by any chance?
It's not actually a mill, it's a drill press that can get up to 4,000 RPM, but I have a bunch of tungsten carbide burrs which I chuck up into the press sometimes. Works really well for hardwood, and is slow but still accurate on steel. Hopefully I can finish the grip on Sunday, all that's left is to round it off, cut the receiver inlet, drill the bolt hole and stain/finish it. I need to take another 1/8" off the width of the grip. I went and milled out a flat on both sides where it meets the receiver then tapered it down starting from the base of the cavity to within a half inch of the end of the grip. I had a few spots chip on the left side but I don't think it'll be a problem to repair.
That looks really nice Raptor.
Raptor, you seriously need to make a guide for doing this stuff sometime. Edit: More pics of, 'ohgodwhy' from my Gew 98. This is the ironsights mainly. Is your $150 Numrich estimate including the correct sights?
