I have a friend who's father passed away when he was around the same age. He inherited his father's massive gun collection, and he has quite a few excellent pieces in it, including an M1 Carbine from WWII that his grandfather fought with.

Super happy fun times. Me dad's friend passed away to cancer some years ago, and his two sons (13 and 14) are pretty interested in WW2 and guns and stuff. Gonna take them to the range when I get my 10/22 and bring some hundred .22LR rounds.
You're gonna need a hell of a lot more than 100 man :v: Semi-auto .22s are so fucking fun to shoot I literally cannot go through any less than 200 rounds on a shooting day
Going shooting tomorrow, should be a good time.
Taurus revolvers are fine Anything they make that isnt a revolver, on the other hand, you should probably avoid
I have a grudge against Taurus revolvers. Read and seen too many videos of barrels flying off down range, cycling problems, seriously hit miss QC to name a few. They handle great. But function wise I'd be VERY CAREFUL. Plus very low resale value. Read these threads. I've heard more positive things about them than I have their revolvers. As I say, you get what you pay for. Just don't expect SUPER TORTURE EXTREME PERFORMANCE out of a $450 handgun and you won't go wrong.

You guys are probably going to laugh at this but I need help a bit with my form when shooting large caliber rifles, like an AK or larger. The barrel seems to jump a lot more than it should, what is the best way to control this?

Stick your arm straight out, then bring it back in from the elbow. Your thumb's first knuckle will be at your the pocket. Grip the forearm tightly with your supporting hand. Also, my patches just arrived.
Pull the stock tight into the pocket of your shoulder. Stick your arm straight out, then bring it back in from the elbow. Your thumb's first knuckle will be at your the pocket.
Good advice, I already do pull it to my shoulder but it just jumps a lot. Guess I just have to play with it. I'll try that again tomorrow. I just feel like my accuracy is off when I fire quickly.

Inhale, and begin the process again. Rapid fire is not accurate. [editline]3rd March 2012[/editline] Damnit, GrEmB, I'm up to date!! [](/b20)

Balance is basically key for everything. So normally I lean in a bit, I wrap the sling from the front portion around my arm to give it another point of contact to absorb-recoil and just push it in to my holders. Combat stance may look goofy on the range, but realistically speaking it is the best way to learn. Its all about posture, stance, etc use this, this may help you. Just google rifle combat stance or rifle stances and you can get a load of information. I stripped down my rifle to the basic necessities, just need front and rear sights. Put a 3 point sling on it and it is all carbon-lite stuff now. Just like when you get in to pistol shooting there are like a thousand pistol grips and stances. Mine weights in at like 5 pounds unloaded. Pretty nice if You ask me. figure out what works for you, then stick with it and practice, practice and practice.

Guess who got a new toy today :D After months of waiting the local auction house finally got a semi-decent rifle. I picked up this little baby for a good price (I'll tell you later). It's an early 1950's Mossberg & sons Model 152K. .22 LR only. For a gun 60 years old it's in good shape. There's a little bit of surface rust on one side but that can be removed easily. The blueing is in good shape, the wooden stock has some nicks but that's how I like it. It came with the scope and old sling, I've been looking for a good semi-auto .22 rifle that has that sort of classic look to it, not the tacticool stuff. It seems to be working OK, but it's REALLY dirty inside, and the bolt looks like a arsenal-fresh Mosin. Does anyone know how to clean this particular bolt? Sorry about the yucky pictures, it's night here and I only have a ceiling light to go off of.
Yeah, I want to introduce them to firearms and make them have a fun day. They're really lacking a father figure, and their mom is overprotective as heck. Hopefully she'll let them tag along. Gonna get the 10/22 threaded for a silencer as soon as possible. I'll probably go with the EOTech 512 and just get an extended bolt handle. Does anyone know if new gen 10/22s include the bolt stop thingy that lets you just pull the bolt back and let it go? My friend had to get one from Volquartsen for his 2006/2007 mod, but I'm unsure if the new gen ones have factory ones. Having to push the bolt stop as well as pulling the bolt back is pretty dumb. I'll just order one from Midway if they still haven't included that as I'm getting a new stock and such for it, but if it is in by default that's 20 bucks saved. On a slightly unrelated note, I today again noticed I do not like scopes. My eyes must not like them or something, because I have a hard time focusing right no matter where I put my head on the comb.. Normal binoculars have always been that way for me as well. Is this me not being used to it or may I just be "incompatible" with magnifying tube optics? I guess that's just another reason for me to get an EOTech :I
The gun has never had last shot hold open. The only thing it comes with is a manual lock for the bolt. A kit is needed to have last shot hold open.
Hopefully going shooting tomorrow, probably put about 100+ rounds through my Nugget. I currently have 400 left of my 440 tin.
Sorry for blurry as shit image, but here are 3 of my dad's rifles [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/vXhkW.jpg[/thumb] From right to left: The 6.8 FN FAL, I can't find the mag, though :c and last, but not least The smexy Galil ARM (Bipod, and carry handle removed)
Seeing those makes me sad that 2 of them are banned here... Especially the FAL, that was my dad's service rifle for most of his 12-ish year military career.

Sorry bout the quality, it's taken on a shitty phone. I haven't counted the quantity yet, but most of the mags are in good condition, along with the two M-76's still in their boxes, although I don't really want any more of those they are dodge. There's no real market of stuff like this here anymore, and I'd love to be able to sell commercial in the States, but that's a fantasy.
I kinda want something semi-auto in .308. What would be a good, inexpensive choice?
I kinda want something semi-auto in .308. What would be a good, inexpensive choice?
Probably a CETME would be your best bet.
Alright, dreams dashed. What can I get for a good $250 USD?
Alright, dreams dashed. What can I get for a good $250 USD?
Probably limited to some milsurp, then. A Nagant and ammo, maybe a K98 or SKS if you find a really good deal.
Alright, dreams dashed. What can I get for a good $250 USD?
Makarov, Tokarev, Hi-Point, lots of stuff.
Makarov, Tokarev, Hi-Point, lots of stuff.
I was actually thinking of getting a TT-33, how good are those as a first gun? Or should a first gun always be a .22lr rifle?
I was actually thinking of getting a TT-33, how good are those as a first gun? Or should a first gun always be a .22lr rifle?
First gun should be what you're comfortable shooting. TT-33 is a great weapon. Not too much recoil. If you want a .22 get a Ruger Mark III.
