haha, dad told me that he used to have a semi automatic rifle before they were banned in Australia. He bought it for $50 at a gun show, and it worked really nice and was very accurate. When the cops came to take it from him, they gave him $400. $350 more than he got it for.
Wait, so when they banned semi-automatics in Australia they literally rounded them all up?

They bought it back from him in 1996 for twice that AND he had put 10000 rounds through it by then.
Wait, so when they banned semi-automatics in Australia they literally rounded them all up?
Yea, they had the national gun buyback. Cost us $700 million dollars (1996 dollars that is) and it meant Little Johnny Howard (our beloved ex-PM) have to introduce a %2 tax to pay for it [editline]15th March 2012[/editline] To top it off: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/buyback-has-no-effect-on-murder-rate/2006/10/23/1161455665717.html They had another gun buyback in 2003 (once again, started by a delightful person knows as John Howard), to buy back every handgun over .38cal and any magazine over 10 rounds. That didn't cost as much as they only "bought" about 20,000 handguns. Though as soon as people got the money they usually just bought a new handgun. What really pissed people off was that when he announced this to the SSAA (Sport Shooters Association of Australia), he chose to wear a kevlar vest. Forcing the view on Australians that all shooters are dangerous lunatics
fuck, john howard the bushy eye brow cunt
Okay correction on the Mags: There were 13 7.62x51 mags 19 7.62x39 mags 3 5.45x39 mags 4 .22LR mags So it wasn't all 5.56, but they were all for AR.

Whoa, reading about the changes in England and Australia's gun politics through the years made me cringe. Here in Italy, the last thing that happened was the elimination of the Catalogue, unbanning all things that aren't full-auto, destructive devices or chambered in a military caliber (and for this there have always been tons of workarounds, like using .223 instead of 5.56 etc. 7,62x39 never was a military round according to our law). Also it allowed for accessories like folding stocks and muzzle brakes to be mounted freely since they no longer count as the "firearm" part of the gun. And we might be allowed to use high-cap magazines soon. So uh, I have some spare couches and an unused apartment. UK and Australia refugees are welcome.
Wow, are you telling me that Italy is becoming a gunfriendly country? Italy is like one of the few European countries that I like. So, how's the rules for becoming an Italien citizen? And by the way, how's the rules for handguns?
Wow, are you telling me that Italy is becoming a gunfriendly country?
We always were. Our laws are second only to Czech Republic, if you don't mind 5-10 rounds cap for rifles.
So, how's the rules for becoming an Italien citizen?
Live here for 10 years, or marry an italian and live here for 3.
And by the way, how's the rules for handguns?
You can own only 3. Plus 6 if they have a "sports" classsification. (this is a tricky matter though. A 1911 with adjustable sight magically becomes a sport gun, but I'm not sure about other weapons) It's possible to obtain a concealed carry permit for your handgun of choice, but it's near impossible to get unless you have to carry lots of money as part of your job, or if you're a pretty girl living in a town called Rapeburg. But hey, even the most basic of licenses will get you infinite rifles and shotguns.
is 9x19 still prohibited? because that's a fucking retarded ban.
It is, because hurr military. All 9x19 guns for civilian use just get converted to 9x21 for the same price and performance, though.
I'd rather not, but that's just my personal taste. That and we already got a cz-455 (or 452) at home.

Also, if I make up a job description in my own company, I can probably get a carry license :v:
Then just move here and wait patiently. In the meantime you can just rent your boomsticks at the shooting range of your choice. And if you move into a small town instead of a big city (highly recommended. The more rural the better) you won't need a sidearm to protect yourself.
But yeah, so if I live out in the country, getting an AR-10 in .308 will be no problem?
Even if you live in the middle of a city you can get that even with the most basic of permits. The only problem is finding a range or some private land to shoot it. Annnnd, AR-10s are hellfuck expensive here. Just go for an FN FAL, they usually go for 800-1000€. I even saw a used one in good conditions for 500€.
Damn that's cheap! In Norway a FAL would be illegal, and if it was legal, it would cost atleast 1500 euros and upwards. They ere legal once, but then for some reason the state when all NOPE. And it was banned for further import and purchase, so those who own one, can't sell it. And if they die, their children can't inherit it unless they choose to get it deactivated. :smith:
Any revolver carbine out there available in bigger calibers? I feel like re-enacting some Metro 2033...
I still think revolving actions on anything that's not a pistol look retarded.
Any revolver carbine out there available in bigger calibers? I feel like re-enacting some Metro 2033...
The Russians make a shotgun with a revolver action chambered in everything from 12 to .410, but I don't think any have been exported, and I've heard they are quite expensive even in Russia. Here, have an assault rifle in an equivalent caliber. And so on...
well, it's a varmint, and even the .17hmr barrel is in varmint. those aren't available here yet, so it's a pretty good deal. new trigger, some minor mods and a new rail as well
This is going to sound stupid, I'm not really all to knowledgeable about some of the odd rifle calibers. How does .17 HMR compare to 22, hell even to 223. or 308. I want to get a bolt action for target/hunting maybe. 100 yards plus range. Though 308 can be fairly pricy and i already got a ar-15 in 223.
.17HMR is more often compared to .22 Win Mag, as both are seen as faster and more powerful rounds than the common .22LR, albeit neither are seen quite as powerful as .223 or .308. .17HMR is seeing a rise in popularity, as while it is a small bullet, it's pointed, versus the common rounded style of even .22 Win Mag. I know our store has nearly sold out of .17HMR rifles, and has sold out of .22 Win Mag rifles, because both are still cheap, albeit not quite as much so as .22LR, and both have far more power behind them, and are seen as more effective hunting rounds for varmints than .22LR.
.17 HMR and .22LR are for rodents .223 is for rodents and small people .308 is for large people and large people far away from you.
.17 HMR and .22LR are for rodents .223 is for rodents and small people
I'll shoot you with a .17 HMR, .22, or .223 and we will see how you feel.
I would love to see this forum start shooting at each other to prove a point.
I'll shoot you with a .17 HMR, .22, or .223 and we will see how you feel.
While caliber has a lot to say, don't forget that the bullet too has almost has alot to say in the equation. But undoubtedly, the .223 will make me feel worse than a .17 HMR and the .22LR. I was hoping you were taking my post as a joke, but since you appear to have focused on the rodent and small people part, I hope you know I didn't mean to offend if you are a midget. :v:

I know, but imagine the hilarity. Holy shit it'd be the most awesome ramset ever.
a 17hmr is literally just a necked down .22mag case
