Oh fucking well I bought it. You can't go wrong with a Mosin right? It's not like the thing'll come to me in five pieces packed with Concrete. Also helps that the dealer I'm shipping to has dealt with classic firearms and doesn't have anything bad to say about them. [editline]23rd March 2012[/editline]
Just think about all the wood and metal required to make over 37.000.00 rifles? Then imagine all the time, planning, blood, sweat and tears that went into the design, production, resource gathering and manufacturing plant construction..
Don't forget Vodka. That's a crucial part of Russian design and planning. We'd save so much money! ...wait...
Not saying it's a bad deal, but every gunstore ever say that kind of thing to trick people into thinking "Wow, this $1000 K98k was used by Hitler's private harem! I should get it!" or "Man, only $5000 for this Tikka T3? What a steal!"
Except isn't, in this case, $90 for a 91-30, the Bayonet, a Sling, the oil can, and an ammo pouch, a really good deal? Especially if they're in as good condition as they say they are.
Yeah, 90 bucks for a round receiver with all the stuff it comes with is pretty good. You can find them cheaper sometimes, but it usually isn't worth the 5-10 bucks you might save if you have to hunt around a lot.
Except isn't, in this case, $90 for a 91-30, the Bayonet, a Sling, the oil can, and an ammo pouch, a really good deal? Especially if they're in as good condition as they say they are.
That's about average price in the US, and Mosins ALWAYS come with a sling, ammo pouch, cleaning kit, and bayonet. I wouldn't buy one that didn't come with at least all that but the pouch, and I wouldn't pay $40 for a Mosin without the bayonet, unless it was an American one.
Mosins back in stock at AimSurplus.com http://us4.campaign-archive1.com/?u=980dd9967062dc0c30cc116d0&id=44276b60b8&e=d72b3d0b75
Any of you chaps know where I can get a good 4x PE / PEM scope or a 3.5x PU Scope for my 91-30 when it arrives? I did end up getting the Scope Mount and Extended Bolt kit so I could fit a scope to it but I'm not sure what I should get or what I should be paying for it.
If you're tight on dosh, fitting that scope to your gun is probably out of the books, as you need a gunsmith to fuck with the gun's receiver, bolt, and stock to fix the mount to the gun. Generally, if your gun isn't an ex-sniper, with the holes in the receiver already, and it's likely that it's not an ex-sniper, you're looking at $400-500 to get a scope mounted, which is about the same price as just buying one with a repro scope already on it, but those can be a little harder to find. If it is an ex-sniper, you'll need to cut the stock so the mount will fit, as they almost always fit ex-snipers to look like normal ones, and you'll need to buy a bent bolt, to have yours fitted to be, which will cost $80 for a new bolt, or likely $150 to get a straight bolt bent, as they have to cut the straight handle off, then drill the bolt and screw the bent handle into the bolt, then weld it in place. Not to mention scope and mount kits themselves, for reproduction ones, are $150-250, and an authentic wartime one, which I've been told can sometimes have zeroing issues due to age deterioration, go for $700 and up.
should i buy a romanian carbine nugget for one fiddy if no, direct me to a cheap nugget i can turn into an obrež [editline]23rd March 2012[/editline] anyone know if i can cut the stock off of a rifle without having to pay for a tax stamp

Are you saying that a gunsmith will charge $400-500 JUST TO MOUNT A NAGANT SCOPE?!
Wait. Are you saying that a gunsmith will charge $400-500 JUST TO MOUNT A NAGANT SCOPE?!
Not necessarily, though usually total costs of "upgrading"; the mount, the bolt, the scope, and the smithing, amount to around $400-500.
:v: Apparently Commie thought I was going for a reproduction Nagant scope. But the kit I ordered is actually a sort of rail system that's really easy to install so... phew.

I know you can't make an Obrez in Canada, cutting the barrel below 18.5" in banned, and cutting the gun's overall length to below 26" is banned.
... If I had access to a drill-press, how hard would it be to do myself?
How much metal working experience do you have and how much do you love this gun? Not trying to discourage you but if it your first time drilling and tapping a hole in solid metal then the chances of messing it up are a big threat. If you can get your hands on some scrap metal to learn on you might be okay. In the end though it is always best to just give it to someone who does it for a living. May the force be strong with you.
And if you're paying $8 for 20 x54R rounds you're probably buying Barnaul, S&B or Prvi Partizan. It's far from being surplus.
I don't understand, is $8 for 20 expensive or not? In Australia, a box of 20 54mmR rounds costs $50-60. fuck this country and its overpriced shit.

If you go and buy Lapua or some shit like that you will, but if you buy surplus in Australia you can get 800 rounds for $400 bucks

Prolly gonna get it for dat fireball though
You can submit a 200 dollar tax stamp, which (if approved, usually in a few months I think if everything goes through) lets you cut down a rifle's barrel and overall length to below the normal legal limit. You can cut off the buttstock (called a Trenchcoat Obrez sometimes if you're cutting down a Mosin), shorten the barrel, or both.

Won't have that sling loop poking you in the cheek.
Have fun with a wandering zero and a xboxhueg/burjdubaihay scope
No? It's a fairly simple and small rail system. This right here: http://www.combathunting.com/MOSIN_NAGANT-Mosin_Nagant_Scope_Mount_System_With_Bolt_handle.html According to Commie all you have to do is take off the rear sight and mount the rail over where it was, then it's just a matter of a gunsmith exchanging the bolt handle for you. Gotta get quote on that but he said I'm looking at under $100. [editline]24th March 2012[/editline]
Finally got my AY-YAR FIFTEEN the way I want it. I always found the concept of those things amazing. An extra piece of metal and plastic that turns a civilian assault rifle into a military grade fully automatic.
Here's a Mauser K98kF1 and Mosin Nagant M44 I've refinished with SCHERELL's Schaftol Extra Dunkel [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22107915/Die%20waffen/mnm44%20og%20k98kf1.JPG[/t]
I want a mauser so bad D;
Fucking hell Commie. I'm going to kill him, I am. Really though? I mean, it comes with instructions on how to fit it to the rifle. If it was a matter of drilling and tapping it wouldn't come with those, would it? It'd tell you to go to a gunsmith.
[thumb]http://www.imfdb.org/w/images/9/92/SteyrM95Short.jpg[/thumb] Always wanted one of these... and while they are only 90 bucks or so... I can justify the ammo cost... but maybe. It's a Steyr Mannlicher M95/30 (For those that didn't know)
