So that classic firearms website has a 91-30 Sniper, already done up and everything with an authentic 3.5PU scope. For 400.
Which would be better to do? Keep my incoming Nagant as a scopeless and get that one for $400 later, or use that kit I got (that I may be cancelling) to just add any old scope to it?
I'm perfectly okay owning two Nagants, but I'm not sure if $400 is a good price.
$400 is fucking dirt cheap, atleast comparing to australia.
A mosin with a PU scope costs $800+ dollars, and $1000+ for a really good one.
over here in the states we can get a combat-worn nugget with original bayonet, strap, and scope for like $200

i'm getting a romanian carbine nugget from 1955 with all that for 150
Then too bad for you nancy pants 'cause you ain't of drinkin age.
Which is even dumber in my opinion. You can own any firearm as long as it isn't a pistol at the age of 18, but you can't own a pistol or get a CWP before you're 21. Which is also ironically the age you can legally drink.
Sounds like a great combination doesn't it? "Fuck dude you're 21. Let's go out, buy a gun and get drunk"
When I was a kid the legal drinking age was 15 :V
Now the government have moved it to 16 and smoking to 18, which was probably a good idea, because we were drinking way too much. Legal driving age is 18 so you can learn to drink properly for two years before you have to learn to drive...
you can learn to drink properly for two years before you have to learn to drive...
Huh? What's to learn about not drinking and driving? :v:
For the guy who was talking about 9x19 against .45, why not get a browning highpower? looks a tad like the 1911 but has 13 rounds of 9x19!

They do realise that AK-47's magazines don't have to be the metal waffle kind?
It also looks like an AKM.
I'm going with my friend and his uncle to shop for proper hunting rifles and maybe optics next week. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to avoid? A rule of thumb I have heard is that the optics should cost at least the double of what you paid for the rifle.
What about rifles then? He is probably going for something in between, he likes to spend big, but that is exactly why I don't think that he has enough money for an expensive rifle this time around.
Leupold is somewhat far behind too, Meopta is however is closer to Zeiss and Swarovski, and it's more of a value brand. American Nightforce are also catching up to Zeiss, so that might be worth a thought.

We can't just say "Get a Tikka" or "Buy a remmy" without knowing what he's gonna do with it
Well then it is going to be a bolt action, limited to 5 rounds in a non-detachable magazine like danish law dictates. I'm guessing that he likes wood, a solid stock, and he is a big guy just like me, so a long stock doesn't hurt either. It's for hunting deer, but I guess that he would also like to take it to a range once in a while. I just talked to him and he is prepared to invest around 10.000DKK (1.785,46$) on rifle+scope.

I'm inclined to agree with Pruss. Knowing what it's for is pretty important. A brush gun might not be ideal if your going to try and reach far out. At any rate a .308 is good for just about anything, though for farther (800-1000+ meters) distances (at a higher price) .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua are nice. Other wise it is pretty much a money game, i.e. You get what you pay for. Personally I love CZ's and their .308's are nice and nicely priced. Likewise are Remington 700's and Weatherby Vanguards. But that's just my $0.02...

He used to be a trophy winning marksman with a .22 rifle in indoor shooting competitions when we were younger, so I would imagine that accuracy would be important for him.
You guys amaze me with your weapon knowledge, I actually found the Cz 527 on a danish website at an affordable price! I also found a used Remmington model 700 in .308 Win. for about the same. Would that also be a decent purchase?
How is 7.62x39 hard to come by? Every website I've been to that sells surplus ammunition looking for 7.62x38 has 7.62x39 for fairly cheap prices.
IIRC, x39 is what the AK-74 uses, isn't it?
Yeah things got really bad in my local last year and I was forced to attempt to reload my spent 7,62x39 casings.
The Cz 527 is a much better purchase than the Rem700, but the 700 isn't "bad". Again my $0.02
Damn, do none of the European countries buy Russian/Czech surplus? It sounds like it all ends up in North America.

Most don't have many legal or non-restricted guns that use them, hence the short supply.
Shit, you guys can't even get SKSes? Practically everyone and their brother has an SKS here, they're probably the cheapest semi-auto that isn't .22. I know in Canada you're hard-pressed to find 5.45x39, as basically all rifles in that calibre are banned and those who have them can't shoot them anymore, as the government won't let them, and 9x18 and 7.62x38R are a bit easier to find, but not very common, as the Makarov and most other pistols in that calibre are banned (except one retarded looking one with a barrel extension made by Baikal) and the Nagant Revolver isn't extremely common, and was the only available gun in its calibre. Hell, it's easier to find .25 and .32 ACP, yet basically all guns in those calibres are banned.
[editline]26th March 2012[/editline]
The market here for 7.62 is pretty big, a lot of shooters get SKSes, CZ-858s, CSA-58s and 7.62 AR-15s just to tell the government to fuck off when it comes to gun restrictions, because they're all "evil, scary military guns" that the government and police force shit their pants and wet the bed in fear of, knowing that people can legally own them.

I agree with, but I doubt a FBI Strategic Response Team is too frightened of the average AR... they got grenades...
Shit, that's a small list for legal ones, which funnily enough includes the Steyr AUG, HK-94,Galil ARM, Sig 550, and the Saiga shotgun, which are banned here. I think Canada is one of the few countries that allows civilians to own semi-autos that has a problem with the AUG, Galil, Saiga, Sig 550, the HKG3, and the FN FAL.

The only russian made round a shooter would be able to get here, without hand loading it himself, would be the 7,62x54R, because the Nugget IS actually legal here because it fits the category of a standard bolt action hunting rifle just fine.
Just a reminder for all you americans: All semi automatics are illegal here, all bolt-action rifles must be limited to 5 or 10 rounds, all shotguns must be limited to 2 rounds, and all weapons must be stored in an approved gun safe at all times when not in use with the bolt stored separately. To even apply for a weapon license you must have been an active member of a shooting club (they mostly use .22 rifles) for two years prior to the application date or have a valid and annually renewed hunting license. Not even people on active duty in the millitary are allowed to have firearms in private. Only special members of the national guard can apply and maybe get a permit to store a firearm privately.
You even have to have a weapon permit for all blades longer than 7 centimeters (2,5 inches) that are not used in the kitchen or for fishing. Carrying knives when not at work or cookin is illegal. All stabbing weapons(spears, sword canes), folding knives, throwing stars, hidden knives and all blunt weapons like brass knuckles and nuchakos are strictly illegal.
If you break any of these rules you get two years in prison.
The only weapon you are allowed to have without a permit from the police is an air rifle, and then again, you have to be at least 18 years old to own one. You also have to be 18 to own airsoft guns (the ones that shoot small plastic pellets).
The weapons that you call "BB guns" are fucking illegal.
God damn, they don't even sell nerf guns to kids in this small ass country because people MIGHT FUCKING DIE!!!
/end of rant.

I have a 700 in .270 Winchester and it's one of my favorite guns. you wouldn't be disappointed.
Here in the Wild West of the world USA! I can't own any rifles made by Colt, I can't own any of the specific "Ban By Name" guns (Galil, FAL). I am not allowed to have a 6 position/ folding stock, a threaded muzzle, detach magazine, pistol grip or bayonet lug (I can choose 2). I have a 14 day wait for any gun (Unless I got a hunting license or am a cop). I can't buy ammo for a gun in a "Pistol Caliber" unless I'm 21. I can't own any AK variant chambered in 7.62x39 (Though 5.45x39 is completely legal)... otherwise it's a pretty lax state.

What the hell state do you live in, that sounds more strict than cali. Sucks for you, I can own any gun I want in any caliber with any size magazine. The only limitation I have is money and autos made after 1986.
