hate having to decide whether i want it threaded or not looks ugly as fuck and ruins the bluing, but i want to be able to shoot without hearing protection and when others are around
Get some thread protectors, im sure you can get some with a small amount of checkering on them for a small price.
How the fuck do you put a god damn 91-30 bolt back into the fucking receiver there is no god damn mother fucking way this shit is fitting what the fuck
What I do with my Mosin is bring a rag every time I go shooting and wipe off all of the cosmoline when my rifle gets hot, bonus points if its hot outside. Another method I used is heating up the stock with a heat gun, many people discourage this method because you can damage your stock, but as long as you don't keep it in one spot you should be fine.
Right now I'm more interested in getting this stupid fucking bolt back into the goddamn receiver. I get that I have to recock the bolt but the fucking assembly still doesn't fit into the god damn receiver.
My friend bought 200 rounds of 8x56r, so he gave me a clip of 1940 dated Bulgarian ammo.
How much did he pay for that amount of ammo?

Like, is the bolt head not straight, and will not fit into the gun? Did you try holding the trigger down while putting the bolt back in? You could try taking the bolt apart and reassembling it. [editline]30th March 2012[/editline]
How much did he pay for that amount of ammo?
I cant remember the exact amount, somewhere around 325$, he bought it off of some guy on gunboards.
iirc surplus 8x56r is around $120 for 200 rounds if it's all just dumped in a cardboard box. more if it's stored properly
Who else is kinda surprised that Springfield hasn't made an M1A to M1 Garand conversion kit.
iirc surplus 8x56r is around $120 for 200 rounds if it's all just dumped in a cardboard box. more if it's stored properly
These were all in their original boxes, with about 20 or so loose ones.
Nevermind I fucking got it. Stupid fucking bolt Gotta fucking assemble the entire thing yeah but then you gotta hold down three or four separate parts that all hate each other and hold the bolt handle with one hand and pull the bolt knob back with the other and twist it while making sure the other parts (that all hate each other) stay interconnected then you can slide it into the receiver. Fuckin...
Never heard of anyone having so much trouble with getting a bolt back in a Mosin. It was all fun and games taking the thing apart (Except those god damn barrel bands) and degreasing it (Just used a cloth and wiped everything down super hard I'm assuming that'll be okay since I didn't have mineral spirits) until it came to putting the fucking thing back together. Also my bayonet doesn't fit ): I was so excited to put it on. *Shhn-CLANK* 'Huh?' *Shhnn-CLANK* *CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK* Can't even fire the damn thing. My flatmates are going super fucking nazi over the thing "Wah wah no you can't shoot it outside. I don't care if you build a berm. No fuck you you can't even fire it directly at the dirt to see what the recoil is like. Fuck you and your gun grahhh" ):

Where do you live? It would be majorly illegal to shoot it in city limits.
Where do you live? It would be majorly illegal to shoot it in city limits.
I've already checked with my city and county police departments. I'm technically outside of city limits and I even had the county office have an officer call me. He informed me that it would be perfectly legal to fire the weapon on my own property (especially considering there are large woods behind my house) just that if a bullet went stray and hit someone of course I'd be completely liable for that. But yeah no I'm not technically in any city limits. My address is within the jurisdiction of the county sheriff's office and they okay'd it.
Bayonets not fitting seems pretty common. They were designed to rarely if ever come off (91/30s were even sighted with the bayonet fixed), and so are very often a tight fit, even if the bayonet is original to the rifle. If you get a metal tube with the same dimensions as your barrel (possibly a section of another Mosin barrel, I don't know how cheap they are), hammering it through your bayonet with a rubber mallet will open up the bayonet a bit and make sliding it on and off the barrel pretty easy. Also not firing it until you are at the range is probably for the best. 7.62x54R is loud as fuck, and you'll probably freak the shit out of your neighbors. [editline]30th March 2012[/editline] Never mind, seems you're all cool legally. Still, I wouldn't really recommend it, especially with your room mates flipping a shit over it.
The problem is finding a range that will allow firing rifles. The popular opinion around here is "You have a rifle? Fuck you." No one that owns a range wants to spend the extra money for a rifle berm and the additional liability revolving around rifle bullets being more liable to, I don't know, fuckin punch through the berm or some shit. I never thought I'd fucking say it but I miss living in Arkansas. Had two acres and our nearest neighbour was two miles away.
You shouldn't really worry about recoil. It's really not bad at all, like some make it out to be. I can easily put 80 rounds through it with no stock padding and come out with little or no bruise on my shoulder. I also fired it without properly shouldering, somewhat to see what an Obrez would be like, and I still have both wrists.
You have to remember how much weight is removed to make an Obrez, though.
You have to remember how much weight is removed to make an Obrez, though.
Yeah, that makes a big difference I guess. It was very awkward trying to get into a pistol stance with a 50 inch rifle, though.
I just bought a Mauser. I'm pretty sure it's a Mitchell's. Anyone willing to help me identify some of the proofs? I know the manufacturer and date but aside from that I do not know anything. Is it true that Mitchell's restamps bolts to make the serials match?

Mitchell's restamps and relabels Yugoslavian M48s (I think) with "authentic" German proof markings and forced matches, and then gives you faked papers to go along with it. Its a total scam if you want anything collectable or legitimate, but they're pretty good shooters for the money if you get them cheap. The first Mosin I shot was an M44, so it had a bit stronger recoil, but its still pretty easy to handle.
Not worried about the recoil I just want to know how it handles and get a feel for the rifle... [editline]31st March 2012[/editline] Also I paid like $250 for the rifle, ammo, and shipping I want to shoot it. I didn't pay $250 to strip it, clean it, and then hang it on my wall.
I didn't pay $250 to strip it, clean it, and then hang it on my wall.
Unlike a certain someone around here who bought themselves a deactivated Mosin :v:
That would be badass. I'm totally for that idea.
The ULTIMATE goal of this thread should be to get EVERYONE who comments in it a Nagant!
We should all go in together on a few crates and start a militia. Wow, if I wasn't on a government watchlist before, I'm sure I am now.
It's a trip, but worth it
I live in Florida. [editline]31st March 2012[/editline] Also. Got the bayonet on the damn rifle. I tried grinding some metal out of the inside to make it fit with a dremel tool and met with limited success. So, after my dremel fucked up and the bit came loose and started rattling around with the dremel at full speed (Thereby scaring the ever loving fuck out of me) I decided to try and ring-size the bayonet. Except I have literally nothing in my house the same size or a bit larger than my barrel. So I ringsized it on the barrel. And after that didn't work after a couple of times I said "Fuck it, it wasn't meant to come off anyway. I'll put it on with the hammer and if I want it off I'll take it off with the hammer". So I did that. And now it is beautiful and ready to gut someone. Please don't freak out anyone I was very careful while doing it and did not mar the rifle in any way.
In case anyone are unfamiliar with or wondering what an integral silencer looks like, lo and behold: You can see the integral silencer-normal silencer splice just behind the end of the handguard. [editline]31st March 2012[/editline] (Rifle is a Cz 452)
That's freaking beautiful, I want it.
