Seriously, that second picture :v:
"This is me giving a fuck."
That actually looks kind of comfy.
But why was this a popular shooting stance? Surely the muzzle burn on the dick was something to consider.
I was actualy in this position the first time I shot a turkey.
Holy tits.
Just got back from the range (Shoot Straight in Casselberry, Florida). My father took me, decided that since I bought myself the rifle and ammo he'd pay for the range fees (And paid for my first year of NRA Membership, bless him).
I'm going to preface the rest with this: I goddamn love my fucking 91-30. I've never been so much in love with a firearm.
Settle in a lane. Pull open my ammo pouch on my hip and pull out one of those paper packet holders I made. Adrenaline is going because there was someone firing a very loud revolver (I think it was a .45) but I calmed myself down. Loaded the rifle, closed the bolt, brought it up to my shoulder, and took aim at the target 25 feet (about 9 metres) away.
Even wearing ear protection that thing was GOD DAMN LOUD. Holy shit. From the first round down I loved that thing. According to my father who was watching from the viewing area, he said the guys to my left and right jumped when I fired it, then backed up and looked into my lane with faces like "What the fuck?". I didn't even notice.
Fired off 40 rounds. 15 at 9 metres, 15 at 16 metres, and 10 at 25 metres. I was glad to see that my marksmanship hadn't dwindled too much from not shooting in about 3 years.
Fairly tight groupings over all. Scored:
9 metres - 75/75 points
2 dead centre
3 10 zone
9 9 zone
1 8 zone
16 metres - 74/75 points
6 10 zone
6 9 zone
2 8 zone
1 7 zone
25 metres - 36/50 points
1 9 zone
4 8 zone
2 7 zone
1 Silhouette (Jugular, was aiming for head. Should get more points for this I think :v: )
2 misses (Was aiming for head)
Will upload pictures of targets if anyone wants to see.
God I've missed shooting.

Also, mind. This range didn't have rests so this was all standing shots. No sitting or resting the rifle against anything.
Only out to 25m? Doesn't seem very far, hell, I shoot .22 at 50.
Only out to 25m? Doesn't seem very far, hell, I shoot .22 at 50.
1) The range doesn't go past 33ish metres. (100').
2) That's with just ironsights. My mosin doesn't have a scope on it. So I'm pretty happy with 25 metres.
Only out to 25m? Doesn't seem very far, hell, I shoot .22 at 50.
I shoot .22LR at 100 with a 4 inch grouping, 150 with 8 inch
.270 I can do 6 inch at 250, the range I go to only goes to 250 so I don't know about any further
None of my rifles are without a scope, not sure how well I do without one
well I fired a thompson today. My dad messed up the video so it only got to where I loaded it. Its actually a lot morre controllable than I imagined, more along the lines of the MP5 than the UMP 45. The ump was so choppy when I shot it, made it difficult to compensate for it.
I hate/envy you so hard right now.

I shoot pretty decent groupings with a Lee Enfield at 100, that's how far I tend to shoot mostly. I think my SVT could do better at 100 than it does, but I'm better with it than my shooting buddies.
Can't wait to see how the Arisaka shoots, haven't gotten to take it out yet.
Hell, some people think that shooting handguns at 25m is a far distance for them, but whenever I shoot one that's how far out the target is.
my glock I can get an 8 inch group at 50 yards, I don't get why people think handguns are hard to shoot at medium ranges

Handgun accuracy is way more dependent on form and practice than rifle shooting is, to me anyway. I can pick up most rifles and shoot decent groupings, but I kinda suck with a pistol because I never really get to use them and wont until I get ahold of a permit
a lot of people don't know how to hold a handgun, where really with a rifle it's all matter of preference.
I still see people at the range doing the cup and saucer method all the time. they're all struggling to keep their little 9x18 on point while I'm here shooting my .40 S&W and not having any issues.
I want to get a desert eagle so bad, I'd get one in .44 Magnum and a replacement barrel in .50 AE so I can shoot the .50 when I want to dickwave all over the place and the .44 when I actually want to get something done
Get the one with the longer barrel and pretend to be Arnie.

If the 'Cup and saucer' method isn't correct then please tell me what is.
*edit*
please don't rate me dumb I don't know all that fancy gun lingo. I know gun safety and I know what to do and what not to do I don't know what any of it is called.

point shooting is correct, weaver stance is correct, and center axis relock is correct
I use all 3 depending on the situation, center axis relock for >10 yards, point shooting for 10-35 yards, weaver for 35+

have you been teacupping handguns this entire time?
ishygdt
I'd use center axis relock for everything if it weren't so uncomfortable, you can land an accurate shot just as well as weaver but you feel less effects of recoil, but it puts your body in such an unnatural position
pics?
Well it's less worrying about killing a home-intruder and more not wanting chunks of him on my floor. I don't want to clean that up!
You don't think animal blood is going to be a pain to clean up? blood is blood.

Remember the weirdo stance in Splinter Cell Conviction? that's Center Axis Relock.

Cup and saucer isn't even remotely comfortable, why would anyone do it?

No yeah that picture is what I've been doing.
I never knew it had a name so I figured that was "Cup and saucering". :v:

This post would be a hell of a lot more helpful if I knew what any of these fancy things meant.

That looks extremely uncomfortable AND really inaccurate/stupid. How is that accurate?

it's not less accurate than weaver, it's biggest merit is it's compactness which makes it a lot easier to shoot and fight in close quarters
I don't know what weaver is so please just pretend that I am nodding my head and saying "Uh huh. Oh okay".
That video was pretty educational. Does anyone have one for revolvers? Perhaps specifically in the .32 to .38 range of revolvers? (Though any will do)
I've never actually fired a pistol before, just practised grip and motion with it. I don't want to look like a dipshit or fuck up when I go to the range with my M1895 next week.

this is modified weaver, only difference is that the thumbs are forward instead of crossed
Okay so what is:
Cup and Saucer
Teacupping / Teabagging
Point Shooting
Centre Axis Reload (Was that the weird looking one above?)

Cup and saucer is the same as teacupping, it's the grip you commonly see Hollywood action heroes use.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/OEarE.jpg[/thumb]
Point shooting is a reflexive aiming technique similar to one-handed weaver, but you point at the target with your forefinger and operate the trigger with your middle.

Center Axis Relock is that weird one above

So cup and saucer is where you have your hand under the grip and other hand?
