What the hell are you talking about? 1. It was made before 1986, their for to own ANY automatic made before than you just need the $200 tax stamp to the ATF (no special licence unless required by state). 2. it is over 50 years old thus making it a relic item. There is no need for the $200 tax stamp, just a C&R licence.
Do you even know what an FFL is and what its used for? Anyone can have an FFL IF they are selling weapons of any kind on a business/professional level(private sales excluded). It being a machinegun has nothing to do with owning an FFL. The only automatic weapons that would require you to have a Class 3 FFL are anything made after 1986, and you can only own those with the intent to sell or promote your company.
You can also keep any automatic weapons you purchase as a police officer, so long as you don't attempt to sell it later down the road once you retire/quit.
A C&R License is an 02 FFL. With the exception of CMP weapons, an FFL is the only way to have firearms shipped directly to you. And that was the FFL I was referring to. I believe that it being full auto precludes it being a C&R type weapon, and will need to wait the 8 months or so for the ATF to send back your paperwork before you can take posession.
As for police officers, any new production machine guns must be purchased on police department letterhead, and will stay with the department, even if the officer that requested it leaves for whatever reason.
So let me get something straight. If I have a C&R license, I could have, say, a Lee-Enfield shipped directly to my house since it's old enough?

7.62x54mmR
Though I quite like 7.62x38mmR. I love the way they enclosed the bullet in the cartridge.

Anyway I've decided on my next purchase. I'm going to get an AK-47. classic arms has some nice romanian models.
I'm torn between two different ones though.
They have a black polymer stock AK-MV for $480. The stock is nice, but I really love wooden stocked rifles. Thing is, I'm going to get a sliding stock for my AK when I get it, so it comes down to matching.
The black polymer AK-MV would match the sliding stock and wouldn't look mismatche.d

But they also have a WASR-10 for $500. I love wooden stocks on firearms but at the same time with a sliding stock it would look mismatched.

Opinions?

Oh also is it possible to put a longer bayonet on AK rifles? Like the ones on the Mosin-Nagant?
I hate the tiny little bayonets they put on AKs now. It's silly. I have steak knives longer than those things.

What kinda folding stock we talking? The polymer sidefolding crane stock style, or the two-poles-and-sheet-metal fold under style?

If you're replacing it with a black stock and concerned about matching, I'd just save the $20 and get the polymer model.
Getting back $1000 from my dad... Putting roughly $400 into savings, but I'm planning on looking at some new magazines for my Makarov and grabbing a new gun or two. You guys think I would be able to find a Mauser K98 at a reasonable price? Or should I just go to a gunshow and see if I can find some good deals?
German K98k's are not hard to find at all. $300 is about the middle ground for a decent or good one no matter where you go. It may be more expensive at a gun show, or cheaper, depending on where you live. Your best bet is to scour Gunbroker or that one site that's like Craigslist for guns, whose name escapes me (anyone care to help?).

Anything that falls under the Curio and/or Relic category. Nugget delivery 24/7.
Went out looking for an M44, didn't find one, got a 91/30 instead. Pics coming tonight.

I'm pretty fond of 7.62x25. It's an absolute beast of a pistol round.
No penetration like overpenetration.
Eh, not planning on firing into any crowded areas any time soon for any particular reason, so it can overpenetrate all it likes. I'm just here for that glorious muzzle flash, wonderful range and wonderful accuracy.

Go for the polymer. It's the exact same gun, but $20 cheaper. You can swap out the ugly as sin furniture later on.
And the power, out of a Tok that shit causes anything nearby to jump off its surface just from the blast wave.
I saw a Zastava M57 today, but I didn't buy it.

We've had someone here who has part compatibility issues with his WASR-10, they apparently aren't as interchangeable with other AK parts as some other guns, get something else.

They're just as interchangeable. WASR's built by Century Arms fucking suck though. Don't buy from Century Arms.

That member (can't remember his name at the moment) did not have a WASR. He had a Zastava.
They're just as interchangeable. WASR's built by Century Arms fucking suck though. Don't buy from Century Arms.
I would buy one by Century Arms, but only if I could examine it in person beforehand and was happy with it.
Plus it happened over 10 years after the ban on automatics. All this accomplished was the stupid assault weapons ban in California which did jack shit.
Besides, modifying a semi automatic weapon to fire in full auto is piss easy, only thing stopping people is the fact that they don't really need it plus if they get caught massive fines.
This, however, wouldn't bother someone who's already going to rob a bank/do some other fucking dumb thing.
I stand corrected, you're right Ridge, it was a Zastava PAP. My bad.
Isn't it Faze (with the Android avatar) that had trouble with his AK-like not being properly interchangeable?

I still wouldn't buy one, everything about them just looks shitty, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion. I'm happy with my Romanian G-code build.

Sliding stock, not folding stock.
The stock that lets me bumpfire the rifle while actually having it shouldered.

Holy Shit. I was waiting for someone to say this (mainly cause I didn't want to quote that multi Picture thing Ven put up). And I can not agree any more with you. Century is a fuck. A plain and simple fuck. Their guns suck and even if I could hand inspect on I wouldn't buy it. They may work fine and might actually be great... but the quality is sloppy at best and at worst it is dangerous.
Plop that 500 down for a nice Russian SKS (and do the sweet conversion to take 30rnd detachable mags, or even 75 rounders) or save another 6 or 7 hundred and buy a quality AK. Hell I think Arsenal's, Saiga's, and maybe even Inter Ordnance are better buys.
I'd rather have the AK-47. I have no problem with a Romanian variant, I don't need an actual Russian AK.
As far as SKS go, don't they have an issue with slamfires and don't extended magazines like to not work
As far as SKS go, don't they have an issue with slamfires and don't extended magazines like to not work
Any issues I have heard with SKS's (Very few) are like sweet sweet dreams when compared to the usual stories I hear about WASR's and other Century stuff. I have no issue with Romanian guns... but just don't get one with C.I.A. stamped on it. Hell I think the VZ.58 is amazing and it's made by the Czech!!! :v
What exactly is wrong with Century Arms? All you guys have said is that they're terrible. Why?
Also there has to be some non-century arms made Romanian AK's in the neighbourhood of $500, right?
So, I have a bit of a challenge for you guys.
I'm looking for a replica/reproduction PEM/PE scope and a mount.
Any ideas?
[editline]6th April 2012[/editline]
Also yes I know about the repro PU scopes, I just think the PEM/PE scopes look sexier.

Also, I have another question for you guys: How hard do you think it would be for me to bend my own bolt?
Just a simple bend, not necessarily in the sniper style (although if I could do that as well, great). Couldn't I just clamp it down and heat it with a torch?
I'm (obviously) looking into getting a gun someday, does anyone know how much kick a Five-seveN has?
