Anyone has experience with moving to another province (Ontario)?

$300 places are definitely liveable, just not great conditions, probably worse downtown of course though since the buildings would likely be even more older/dirty/cramped. When you're young and single, you can definitely make it work out though.

My friend was paying $700 dollars a month for a 100sq foot basement near UofT. Unless you want roommates don't expect to pay $300 a month.
When I put Recreation/Socializing, it was intentionally meant for that 1 or 2 nights in a month you go out with friends :D
It's pretty realistic for someone just starting out with a new job and such.
Also doesn't include the cost of video games, any hardware, basically anything you might want to buy yourself.

$300/mth is for rooming places. Same with $500 range.

$100/mth is decent for a single guy. You only need a computer like once every 5 years, sales on Steam, etc...
He's gonna be busy looking for a job anyways, and can easily move up from minimum spending once he does get one.
That internet package comes with 75GB of cap by the way, and it's only 6 Mb/s down, which is rather slow.

Not really, not if you go on dates or things like that.

I guess there is a difference between living and living comfortably.

Sorry, didn't have images on (turn it off at work), but yeah $5 more to make it 300gb won't make it $50 range.
The speed is more than enough to stream youtube, play games online, and torrent. (especially if he's the only user)

yeah but then there's the instillation cost, taxes, etc. you also need to buy a modem, their modems are $100.

clothes also cost a lot. even if you shop exclusively at thrift stores (ones better than goodwill) you still are going to be paying 10-20 dollars for a decent shirt.

when bluenotes has sales their jeans are about 20 dollars each. you could shop at walmart but i would suggest against that

Either way, it seems he will be looking at spending at least $1600+/mth, and he needs to aim for at least $2,000/mth after taxes to live comfortably. (About $23,000/year before taxes *about $12/hr based on 40 hours/week*)
But at $23,000/year I personally feel money is way too tight, and yeah in the beginning he should find an easy to get job, and look for a decent job as soon as possible. (Gotta save for vacations, emergencies, luxury goods :D, and eventually dating lol *For me dating was cheap, it was after she became my wife, that the expenses went up T_T*)
I'm 17 and have been in the GTA my entire life, I'd love to help but only real advice I have is that if money is really tight (as living in Toronto can be pretty damn pricey) a lot of people live in surrounding cities and take the GO downtown every day. My brother has been doing this for years and I imagine he's saved a fuckton of money living in Mississauga, taking a 30~45 minute transit to Toronto every morning to get to work.

Haha, nowadays, it might be too late for him to save by living in Mississauga, or even Burlington saves much T_T
Transit costs have gone up, but service hasn't improved, huge time wasted on commutes. Milton used to be super cheap, unfortunately, prices there have even gone up a ton now too. The savings nowadays would be miniscule unless he lives like a 1 hour no traffic drive away from Toronto.
Yeah, been looking at about how much the cost of living is over there, I've sent a few emails around hoping maybe someone will get interested even though I'm probably not doing the move until mid-late 2014.

I'm finishing my studies here first, hoping to land a job real soon to get some income going right now to provide me some financial security once I decide to make the move, I currently have next to no money saved up.
I live in Sault Ste. Marie, ontario and I used to live in ottawa and I can tell you the price of living in ontario is generally horrendous. toronto is severely overpopulated compared to ottawa and sault ste. marie so it's probably even worse. I moved out of a housing complex last year where the rent was $1000 a month for a pretty small house surrounded by crackheads and drug dealers, and that's considered a pretty decent price.
ottawa was even worse. $1300 + utilities for the bottom half of a house that wasn't that big. that was in 2004, it's been gradually rising ever since.
you should probably consider looking for people seeking a flatmate.
