After he got axed in favour of Semyon Timoshenko, the Red Army broke though the Mannerheim line and got the Finns to sue for peace. 2: The Mujahideen received aid from many countries, a lot of it coming from the US, in the form of money, weapons, training and even soldiers. 3: Significant aid from the French and it's allies and Britain's relatively small land army by the standards of the time. The war was also mostly a conventional one, guerilla tactics weren't as common as you'd think, so not entirely the best example of guerilla tactics winning a war. Not saying the home turf advantage isn't a factor in a country's favour, but it alone will not ensure victory over a superior force.
