It's quite a beautiful chord.
-snip, misread the tablature- I'd like an 8-string guitar that goes B-E-A-D-G-B-e-a
Whatever we do we can only suck KG's cock about this one.
For different octaves and notes... It's kinda necessary, especially if your playing certain types of metal. Pretty simple really. Now I can see why that would be pointless...just get another guitarist haha. That seems so confusing to play.
I mean, why do you need that extra strings? other than extending your imaginary penis. I can make do with 6, and i have a little trouble coping when shit starts to go down, I just can't understand the advantages of having a 7 string guitar. Discus
Maybe people like the idea of having more strings and more possibilities. What the fuck is it with this unnessecary hate for extended range guitars, it makes no sense what so ever, it's personal choice.
So is killing someone, are you saying that's ok?
that was a really stupid comparison..
that was a really stupid comparison..
I don't think he'll be retorting any time soon, Peavy; not much point to point that out. :v:
I don't think he'll be retorting any time soon, Peavy; not much point to point that out. :v:
I tend to point out the obvious alot. I'm a little :downs: without actually being :downs:
Why have a guitar at all? You don't need it. :downs:
Why have a guitar at all? You don't need it. :downs:
Of course. My guess is that in the next decade, people will stop taking time away from hanging out with friends instead of bothering to practice their guitars, so they'll just use their illegally obtained Fruity Loops version 67 XXL edition, and write with a MIDI guitar. Also, since they won't know a thing about music theory, it will all be out of key, and horrible.
So is killing someone, are you saying that's ok?
That's like comparing a Badger to Sheetrock, it's not the same in any way, shape, or form.
So is killing someone, are you saying that's ok?
This type of post is the only real reason i pay attention to him anymore. Seriously thats grade A downs shit right thur. By the way anyone know how long hes banned for?
I always knew he was awesome :v: what did he get banned for?
Just click the calender in the bottom-lefthand corner of his username-and-avatar-storing-thingy. It says right there. Even links to the post he got banned in.
Why do people think 7 string guitars are so pointless? I think it would be really useful.
I personally don't think they are pointless, they clearly have a point, but I think that the point is often used as a lame pretense, and many people buy 7 string guitars despite the fact that they don't actually need them. Even if it has a point, I have a feeling most people just buy it more as a feature gimmick. Now, from a construction standpoint 7, and 8 string guitars are dumb. They require special hardware, they often require multiple trussrods, which is all pretty annoying. I love the idea of efficient mass production, it might be a form of OCD for me, but the idea that some factory somewhere has to devote a bunch of extra machinery to making 7 string hardware just drives me nuts. It's incredibly wasteful and criminally ineffecient; all because somebody wants to feel special and have 7 strings on their guitar. And, even from the musical standpoint, I'm skeptical as to how somebody will make good use of 7 strings in one song.
Seriously. If you find yourself wondering "what's the point of a seven string guitar?" ask yourself then "what's the point of a six string guitar?" I mean, it's only for people who want a bigger penis than those dumb 5 string guitars.

Although what I'm about to show you is a bassist, he acts as the lead guitarist in his band. Gentleman (and possibly women):
Guitars have always been six strings, that's why. Just about all guitar related music is written for six strings. If guitar's had been five strings from the start, then I'd think 6 string guitars are stupid and pointless. And if that were the case (if all guitar music had been written for 5 string guitars) they would be stupid and pointless.
[editline]03:25AM[/editline] :Dawkins102:
I've never understood the Dawkins icon.. Were you complimenting me, or was that bad?
The dawkins icon is used to show utter despair at the stupidity or pointlessness something. Obviously in the literal form it has something to do with evolution vs religion, but everybody uses it as a "super-facepalm" "Hey, this guy just burned a massive pile of money in front of a bunch of street children" :Dawkins102: "Hey, watch me jump down these stairs and land on my face on purpose, it'll be funny" :Dawkins102: "Hey, look at this 20 string bass I made. With the time and material it took to make this laughably cumbersome, extremely impractical and costly instrument, I could have built 4 high end normal bass guitars" :Dawkins102:

Well, I was just showing that there can be a point to have 2983748974 strings, if you use them correctly, and not just play open on the added one.
You can learn to use them correctly, but rather than practicing your monstur shreddin' skillz, you could instead learn musical theory and become a genuinely talented guitar player and musician. Do you think a talented musician like (just to name a few) Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, BB King or Eric Clapton would need a seven string guitar?
Nobody needs a seven string guitar, how many times to I have to say this. Nobody needs any guitars, or music at all for that matter. If you can look at that guy's playing and honestly facepalm just because of his instrument, I think you need to go to the doctor and have your brains checked out.
Nobody needs any guitars, or music at all for that matter.
You don't realize how much music has helped people, including me, live their lives day to day. Bad reading? read the quote. Nobody needs any guitars, or music for that matter.

It's like if I said that buying a $5000 super computer is a bad idea because all you need to do with it is read emails, then you retort back "well nobody needs a computer" For my analogy's sake; you're basically implying that if you're going to get a basic computer (the six string guitar), you may as well just get an expensive one with more features than you need (the seven string guitar). Which makes absolutely no sense when you actually think about it.

If you can make use of the seven string, than what the fuck is the problem here. Why does it matter? If someone wants a seven string and they'll make good use out of it let them have a seven string. But if someone just wants it because all of the "brootal" bands use them than I can see where you're coming from.
saves trouble of having to change tunings for lower notes
This is probably one of the most useful reasons for a seven-string guitar. It's not a necessity, but it's certainly a convenience. Before you retort that, let's keep in mind all the conveniences we take advantage of now: A dishwasher; you have hands, you have water, you have soap, and you have a washcloth; you don't need a dishwasher. A calculator; you have pencils, you have paper, you have a brain capable of rudimentary mathematical operations; you don't need a calculator A car; you have feet; you don't need a car. And to disarm your "inefficiency of production" argument: A dishwasher is a lot more inefficient to make than a washcloth. A calculator is a lot more inefficient to make than paper. A car is a lot more inefficient to make than to walk. :colbert:
