• Violence on television causes humans to be violent in real life.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but that test deals exclusively with plain old violence. It doesn't single out television as the only way kids get exposed to it; hence it's a bit unfair to pick exclusively on television. If you were to tackle the problem of violent television, you'd also have to tackle people being verbally abusive to one another in areas where children could conceivably be, "play fighting" amongst peers (e.g. "A pinch and a punch for the first day of the month!") and nigh on all contact sports.

I did something similar to this in Media Studies. Was only a very light study though. But how much the children in questioned are influenced would clearly rely on how well the parents/guardians taught the child right from wrong, and a logical/rational way of thinking. Similar to the Nature vs Nurture debate. However, no matter how hard you try, you are always influenced in some way by a version of the media. again mediated in very specific ways to only give you a version of the truth or a very select group of values that will be repeated over and over again.
Tv dosent make you bad and saying Tv is worse now then it was 30 years ago is stupid. Look how much racism and violence there was on Tv when my parents were growing up (60's and 70's) and that entire generation for the most part grew up just fine. I mean lets see back then on the 4 channels they had to choose from was either Raw vootage from Vietnam , Western Shoot'em Ups , More Vietnam footage on the other news station or, Smokey and The Bandit.

No matter what this argument is inconclusive because everyone is different. Some people are violent retards who think aggression towards everything is ok. While others know how to behave and solve problems with their words. I'd also like to add the fact that the reason kids are violent are because there parents are Incompetent. Oh and the reason Media/News stations say "Oh noes Vidieo Gemaz/TV Makes teh kids becom Cerial Killres forrest of live!" is because They dont have anything worth reporting so they try to force their opinions onto others.
Troll thread.
lol, i like how many disagrees garry gets
It doesn't usually make children violent all on their own but shit parenting can also be blamed for children being violent
Garry, I took the 100 level psyc paper, I also took the 100 level skepticism paper No, Bobo is not conclusive Also, I was exposed to all manner of violence on tv, in video games etc when under-aged, and subject to corporal punishment and I'm about the most passive and non-violent person I know. Hell, my green peace enthusiast, vegetarian-as-hurting-animals-is-bad friend is far more prone to punching a bro than me.
So if you see homosex you become gay? I call BS.
I grew up with racing games, but i can't drive yet, how do you explain that? :v: basically the same thing
Jesus, i'd fergot how awesome Starship Troopers was. brb, going to assault the group of adolescents outside my house. [editline]06:17PM[/editline] Jesus, i'd fergot how awesome Starship Troopers was. brb, going to assault the group of adolescents outside my house.
The Bobo doll experiment was done with kids watching an adult hit the doll, it doesn't mean they were going to grow up and be violent, and I'm sure if TV violence was so effective then it would be banned.
Ah i remember doing this in criminal phycology in college. this equates for >10 mostly. do this to a kid over and most of the time it wont effect them.
We are getting less violent, so even if some statistic says children learn violence from television, obvously it's not a problem seeing how duels are commonplace anymore. I mean seriously, let's face it, we're all a bunch of pussies now. Also free will.
the thing most people forget are games have rating for a reason. if its 12+ or 16+ then hell, dont give it to a 10 year old. its the parents fault really. dont let them have it. games arnt to blame.
garry don't be a dick, that's such bullshit and we all know it. the only time your britfag ass was right was back in 2004 when you developed gmod, and even then you ripped off of JbMod.
You guys are all talking about too late in life, what garry is trying to get across is that in the early development stages in life, if you are exposed to violence in games and on the television, you are more susceptible to be violent. It's just the nature of a child to take in what is around him/her, and maybe apply it somehow. [editline]01:38PM[/editline] sorry if that was already posted, I wasn't reading through 9 pages of this.
[QUOTE=SAS0206;15932989]But then why are games like the GTA series condemned for violence when I can watch the same thing on CSI or Forensics Factor[/QUOTE] CSI has one murder, maybe a couple more depending on the episode. Check your stats for "people killed" after completing a GTA game. :)

I played Mario a lot, but you wouldn't see me jumping on turtles and smashing my head into a brick wall. And/or sliding down flags and then walking into a castle.
Garry dicking around again.
I believe that your intelligence level determines whether you get violent while playing violent video games.
"The eyes are the window to the soul"
Babies =/= Adults/teens
But unless you break the window, you can't get in.
You have to be pretty fucked up to see violence and then decide it's ok...
"There is so much comedy on television. Does that cause comedy on the streets?" - Dick Cavett, mocking the TV violence debate.
thats bullshit
