• Violence on television causes humans to be violent in real life.

Garry I grew up playing Unreal Tournament and Quake...why haven't I turned serial killer yet?
It's not that it causes us to go around saying "I'M GONNA FUCK YOU UP" for no reason, it's that it makes us think less of it as permanently damaging.
Human logic isn't built-in at birth. It grows gradually. It would make sense to believe that if a child plays a video game without being told beforehand that it's wrong, the kid might take it more seriously than an adult would. Basically, I think that children need to be taught that violence is wrong before they're exposed to things that may indicate that it's right. People tend to have a very black-and-white view on it though - violence in games/tv/etc won't magically transform anyone into a monster.
But what about this: There were gladiators in ancient times and people watched them to kill themselves. So wouldn't that make the viewers violent? And in medival times there were public executions. So i think it's more civilisaized to show acted violence rather than real.

When i defended myself (punched the bullyer), i were told, that it was wrong. Basically, i did a wrong thing, since i din't let bullyers to kill me.
Violence in media only really affects children greatly. Older people may be affected, however not as much as a suggestible child may be.
garrys mod is violent thread over
It's not saying that TV invented violence. It's saying that TV makes children think it's acceptable.
That's why we have the age rating. Don't take it seriously? Suffer the consecuenses.
Garry I grew up playing Unreal Tournament and Quake...why haven't I turned serial killer yet?
Because you already knew that killing people was wrong. If you were born into a room and didn't see any other humans, and all you'd ever seen was UT and Quake.. then at the age of 18 you saw another human and you had a gun, I'm guessing your first instinct would be to shoot them. I'm not talking about 12 year olds. I'm talking about under 5 years old.
This is just more made up crap. I've seen my share of violence on T.V. I saw Saving Private Ryan. I didn't feel that violence was acceptable, I didn't feel like going back in time and shooting people, I didn't feel like getting violent at all.
Everything a child sees it learns. If it sees violence on TV, it leans how to be violent.
A child is not a human, silly. :downs:
GRRRAAAHAHHHH! THIS THREAD MAKES ME SO VIOLENT! I could punch some bunnies.
I'm not talking about 12 year olds. I'm talking about under 5 years old.
Baby age is probably counted. Well.. my dad used to beat me even when i was just a baby. officials didn't give a fuck. Yeah, he got warnings, nothing else.
Violence is a natural human emotion. Stop trying to pin it on anything. If you get rid of Violent T.V. then you would also have to get rid of violent video games, movies, magazines, etc (including gmod). And even then we would still just bicker and bitch about everyday human things, thus proving me the victor, in this little battle.
So what about people watch porn? They learn to have sex better?
It makes me think about Jack Thompson. He complains about a violent game, and he just does not understand the purpose of ratings. GTA4 is 18+, in Europe. If it's printed on the boxes, that's for a reason.
Baby age is probably counted. Well.. my dad used to beat me even when i was just a baby. officials didn't give a fuck. Yeah, he got warnings, nothing else.
Well your life story sounds pretty fucked up, but you should realize that your classmates, teachers, and parents are all wrong, and the only proper thing to do is move on to become a better person than them.
Heck, when I was a little dumb kid, I used to play violent games like Carmageddon. But I don't hit people with my car. Wait....I don't have one. :(
Baby age is probably counted. Well.. my dad used to beat me even when i was just a baby. officials didn't give a fuck. Yeah, he got warnings, nothing else.
That's called discipline. Read it wrongly. Punching babies is never acceptable.
The media likes to scare people with this sort of stuff, because one violent man = everyone is violent right???
I don't think voilence is an emotion. And you all need to get it through your thick skulls that we're talking about young children here. Impressionable kids. Oh, you watched Total Recall when you were 14 and you haven't killed anyone yet? Must be fine! Fuck it, all this actual research must be bullshit. Smoking doesn't give you cancer. I know people who have smoked since they were 15 and they haven't died yet.
Well your life story sounds pretty fucked up, but you should realize that your classmates, teachers, and parents are all wrong, and the only proper thing to do is move on to become a better person than them.
I don't give a shit about anything. That's it.

I'm not debating whether it's the parents fault or whatever. I'm not saying ban violent tv shows. I'm just saying that violence does breed violence, something that you all seem to think is false for some reason.

Children acting up? Spank them. A palm to your butt means more than the actions of a crazy T.V person.

Yeah it's silly to ask, it's just always bothered me for some reason. Anyway, being influenced by T.V. and games and such really depends on what kind of situation you were born into.
