"Hey guys, my life is shit so I'm going to imagine I have a big red piece of shit in the end of my spine and then make some ninja-voodoo poses to be cool and "relax". I'm so edgy yo"
I love meditating. I personally meditate lying down in a dark room, but it's different for everyone. Very good way to get rid of stress and begin to focus on stuff. And refreshes like fuck.
I've attempted meditation before, sometimes I can't empty my mind at all or I'm carried away by mental imagery.

Yes, being relaxed and stress free is important to our health. That is about the only health benefit it gets you. I however don't find it relaxing. I'll just play videogames instead. Stupid Song of Storms. Always in my mind.

Buddhist mediators work for years to try and clear the mind - I think it's expecting a bit much to do it without years of practice. Have you tried Breath meditation?

Have you tried Breath meditation?
I would try calming myself down by slowing my breathing, then thinking of simple things until my thoughts started to go quiet. Then, after a few moments of silence a random thought like "Oh, hey, I haven't been to Taco Bell in a while" pops into my head and ruins everything. Then it feels like I've just walked into a busy sidewalk during rush hour. Also, by carried away, I mean while thinking of colors and shapes it'll turn into a mess. I might think of indigo and white, with circles and cubes and I'm suddenly thrust into thoughts about outer space, the universe, supernovae, galaxies the size of atomic particles to unfathomable lengths, suns born and dying generation after generation, and so on. After a while I snap out of it and remember that I was supposed to be meditating.
New age hippy BS.
Meditation has been recorded for the past 5,000 years you big 'ol dummyhead!
whilst all the new-age hippy bullshit attached to meditation will put you off it, the point of meditation is that you relax to the point that your brain slips into a thought pattern similar to that of REM sleep, and thus when you come out of it you WOULD feel invigorated, like you would after taking the half-hour naps seen in polyphasic sleep. so don't diss it until you try it :v:
All I can say is, I'll be having fun with my Root Chakra tonight. :q:
Mister, you might have a scat fetish. I'm terribly sorry.
"Woo i am a atheist and everything wich is not based around buzz words from Half-life 2/Retarded youtubers is religion, and religion sucks and my opinion is better than thoose dumbfucks, i am so cool." Has nothing to do with fucking religion or placebo, it has been scientifically proved that the mind changes through theese kind of excersises. I am a retarded 12 year old; Wont read it, play Black Ops everyday: Has nothing to do with religion, new age, scientology, Apple products or Justin Bieber, and it dosent suck, try before talking you narrow minded fuck. Have anybody ever tried breath control or mindfulness? It might fix your little stressy anime obessed brain from being terminally shit, try/think/actually do something before gnawing at the keyboard for 2 seconds then clicking reply.

Meditation itself isn't a myth. You definitely fall into a different sort of mental state upon 'meditating', or whatever you call it. It's really just deep relaxation. But the whole chakra thing is total BS.

Meditation is useful in lucid dreaming.
Chakras aren't real
Chakras aren't real
Nobody said they have to be.

The idea, quite simply, is to be mindful, or aware, of phenomenon happening now - so far as to relax the mind from dwelling on the past or future. For all intensive purposes, it's the same experience as completely emptying the mind. What are the phenomenon happening now? They're your "Objects of meditation". You start with your breath. You can repeat to yourself "In, ....... Out" while breathing; which is being mindful of the breath - as it happens, and when it ends. If you find that you're being distracted by thoughts, you simply do the same thing - repeating to yourself "Thinking, ........ Thinking" until the distraction ends. Once that happens you return to being mindful of the breathing. If anything else arises that takes your attention, label it in the same way until it dissipates, e.g. "Pain, ... Pain", or "Noise, ... Noise"; and then immediately be mindful of your breathing again. Keep in mind that the labels you choose don't really matter. Do what works for you. With enough practice, distractions will cease to draw your attention. You may find, after even more practice, that you're able to be mindful of your breath without labeling it. That is the progression of mindfulness meditation. The practice is being mindful, and the result is a clear, open mind. It sounds like you tried to begin at the end :engleft: If any of that didn't make sense to you, or anyone reading this - I suggest you just google "Mindfulness Meditation". There are loads of good introductions available. Here's a wonderful video that explains what I attempted to explain. Enjoy
