no, it costs less. by about $1,000 generally.
No, it's the opposite. Automatics cost more, usually to the tune of $1000 to $1500. Plus it puts a slight decrease to your MPG.
Ford. Fiesta.
Do it.

You could look at a kia soul. Their looks are a love hate kinda thing but for the price they are great little car.

the question was:
Does it cost more in the US to get a manual?
and automatics don't really put a slight decrease to your MPG anymore. they may have for older cars, but now they're equal and in some cases the automatic gets better mileage.
I do believe he answered that question.
Depends on the driver.
Probably going to get disagrees but here goes. Why buy a new cheap car, when you can buy a fully loaded used car? I got my 99 grand prix for 4000, i get 24mpg city, and 32mpg highway. And it's a v6 with an automatic transmission. It has leather, bose audio, heads up display, heat warmers, everything you can imagine.
I say used car.
But if you have to get a new car, i say the Chevy cruze. I've always been a gm guy. I test drove one for fun and kinda liked it, but it lacked the power that I wanted. Something like 42mpg I think.

The steering wheels fall off on those, the interior is really cheap compared to the other cars he mentioned, and they lack power with an MPG that isn't really impressive. Plus it's not in the same class as any of those he mentioned.
That's in the class of the Civic, Elantra, Corolla, and even the Impreza.

chevy cars are shit, and 42mpg isn't that special anymore
Whatever you say JDK.
Whatever you say JDK.
name one good chevy car please, and honestly 42 mpg isn't that special anymore
it may be to people who drive SUVs or trucks since they're used to guzzling gas and only getting 15 mpg
Chevy Malibu, Camaro, uncle says the cruze isn't too bad either.
42 mpg would sounds pretty damn good to anybody you ask who drives a vehicle.
Edit: Besides Prii drivers, I heard those things get like 1000mpg or something?
Chevy Malibu, Camaro
both are shit

You're the typical chevy hater and has to insult everyone who likes them. And you lack to give any facts other than "durr they suck".

OP here
Decided to hold off on buying a car until winter due to one not being necessary until winter but I have a few reasons to buy new over used;
1. Factory / Dealer warranty
2. Color
3. Ease of maintenance over time (0 miles > 30,000 miles)
Been keeping an eye on craigslist for a while and if a lime green slightly-used fiesta pops up in my area I won't hesitate to get it - but alas all the cars in my area are boring black or grey so I'll be simply watching craigslist for anything interesting to pop up this summer. If not, I'm probably going to spring for a lime green Fiesta this fall.
[editline]15th June 2011[/editline]
Not that fuel mileage is that important to me anyway, because most of the time I commute using my moped regardless. It's just that I do like small cars and it's impossible to find a Furious Fuchsia or Plum Crazy challenger anywhere for a price below $17k - so might as well get a peppy small car instead.

Yea that's totally understandable, just thought I'd give my suggestion. I'm glad at least one person in this thread can have a serious conversation.
The Cruze isn't even in the price range of those cars. What he'd be looking at would be the Upcoming "Beat". It may have the same turbo engine as in the Cruze, but it's in a lighter car so you can actually consider this one fun.
The turbo in the Cruze isn't for fun, it's for fuel efficiency while having the power of a 1.8l from a 1.3l.
:downsbravo:
yeah lets go jdk derail another thread for the good of the environment, Man!
