After giving Renoise, OpenMPT and a couple other trackers a shot, i think I've finally found a workflow that works for me, which means I can actually start finishing more tracks and not just have a bunch of half-finished shit laying around. That means I have to find a solution for arrangement/mixing/mastering, I might use Reaper for that. Any other recommendations?
Why would you want to do any mixing in another DAW...? You should be able to mix everything inside of Renoise. It has all the tools you could possibly need, a good send/BUS system, and the signal follower (which is great for all kinds of crazy side-chaining, like sidechaining certain EQ bands to your kick or the reverb amount of your snare to your highhats or whatever).
Any know any good snare samples? I use only 1 snare and even then it isn't very good.
Rip them out of Funk/Soul vinyls and CD's, and then layer, compress, distort, etc. It's what I do, and it usually does the trick for me.

Yeah that too. Slightly off-setting layers results in phatter sounding snares
Pre shifted?
Pre shifted?
You take a clap with a couple of hard hitting ticks at the start of the sample, and extremely slowly and with precision, drag them slightly before the snare/2nd+4th kick, they make this fucking great sound.
reversed claps/snares infront of the actual snare works wonders as well.

I still think certain things will be better/easier in Reason (non-sequenced drums, certain crazy routing tasks) so I need a solution to bring it all together. I think it's gonna be Reaper, I can't even try Pro Tools or cubase because you need a fucking dongle for the trials. [editline]25th August 2012[/editline] seriously what were they thinking, requiring a $50 dongle for the "free" trials.
Yup, I know. For some reason Steinberg thinks it's perfectly fine to charge money to try a fucking demo. It's almost like they want me to pirate it... Still haven't been able to properly test Cubase for that reason.
Same with Pro Tools. That makes me not even want to buy the full version because I know the copy protection is going to fuck me if I get a new computer or something and generally just be a hassle.

So I have an Alesis Multimix4usb. It constantly records a low hum and a high pitch whine, even with nothing in the jacks, and it's not affected by the gain on any of the channels. I've tried changing the usb cord I'm using, the usb port, where in the house it's plugged in, nothing seems to be working. Any ideas?
It could be on the hardware end, your soundcard maybe is having some insane gain on when it is recording or something like that?
Possibly. It also only seems to occur when I'm recording, which is really odd. If I have headphones in and turn the headphone gain all the way up, I don't hear anything until I open audacity/start recording in whatever program.
Hardwell released a free bootleg pack. http://www36.zippyshare.com/v/69306397/file.html
I'm pretty interested in trying to make electronic music, but I need some tutorials on what everything does (not music theory wise, I'm already working on that). Any help?

Did everyone see the Machine Mk2? Looks pretty nice. I would've liked to see LED rings around the encoders or have them replaced with end-to-end knobs. I'm glad I didn't get it when it was on sale now.

Looks like the Traktor F1 had sex with a Machine.
We should have a "Best Of Facepunch" where every artist posts a few of their tracks (maybe top 4 tracks in their opinion) and then we have votes (weekly) on which song of each artist is their best, then we have votes on which artists should be on the album (based on their top song voted by the other musicians), and put it up on bandcamp like the other collab albums  What do you guys think?

Unless we could just get ak'z to do it :v:
I'm thinking of hosting a sample pack album. I will make a sample pack and anyone can make a song ONLY USING THE SAMPLES, no synths. I just need to find a good private voting system.
Unless we could just get ak'z to do it :v:
I still have nightmares about those... "albums"...
That's a great idea man, if anyone wants an organizer, I can volunteer? Unless we could just get ak'z to do it :v:
Sure thing! This is probably going to take a lot of time so any help is always appreciated
I just had a track released on OCRemix. A remix of a track from Donkey Kong Country 2. http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02488/ Only took them one year and a few months to post it. :v:
Bought a good used Axiom 25 yesterday, liking it so far. it's just a holdover until I can get a nice 61-key like a Novation 61SL or something. Right now I don't really need anything else except maybe a better audio interface, ie one that actually has inputs. I was looking at the Komplete Audio 6 because it's a lot smaller than the focusrite 8i6, is there anything else I should look at? My max is about $250.
Why does soundcloud put my songs in the incoming tracks tab? It's not like I don't know what I upload. Does it do it for anyone else?
