You realize that you do it for the joy of making music, not for the joy of making good music
Thing is, I get my joy out of making those really great songs and now I'm not so sure if what I make is that great and it sort of sucks the fun out of it, I want my songs to be great after all :<
When I feel like that I just do something else for a while since making music feels kinda deprsessing, but it's always some night when I come back to fl studio and
Even tho making good music is a good plus since it's always rewarding when you make something great.
The problem is that I go to school where you sort of have to make music all the time and it is really frustrating when you have to make a song a week :<
This.
And don't force yourself to make music.
Take breaks and play videogames, hang out with friends, watch a movie, etc. from be time to time.
I take plenty of breaks and get these really intense moments of music making, I guess I'll have to force myself to have a really long break though, maybe this whole weekend?
buy new gear
Maybe I should, I think I've mustered all the guitar I can out of my old one and a new guitar might make music fun when I can get so much better sogund out of it
Thank you all for the kind and reassuring words, it is nice to hear how other people do when they get that certain feeling
I've always wanted to start doing live shows, but I've never had a good idea of what gear I would need to buy to preform. For someone who composes electronic music and sings occasionally, what would be some good suggestions for gear that could help me mix and play live?
I play drums in a lot of my songs, usually toms or a full set. Is there a good way to set that up to sound good and work well? Or should I keep the drum parts samples, and just mix them instead of playing them live?
I think the most important question is what your budget is and just how much you'd be willing to be spend, give us a number and we can probably guide you on what you can achieve with the money you have.
I assume you got some gear too so tell us what you got so we can help you even better!

live drums + electronics are an awesome combo if you practice and make it perfect

The funny thing is that all I have is a mic and a m-audio usb piano. I'm willing to spend up to $500 worth of equipment, but that's still a very high number for me, so anything lower is better.
Hmm you know what would be cool
some kind of Facepunch Musicians' Gig Room Soundcloud where every week we do a vote, and a new song goes up on the page
I don't know how many followers it would get but it should at least get most of the people who visit here
then again, it would probably just fill up with house tracks

Then you're well on your way to having a great gigging setup! I'd recommend getting a drummachine, akai makes some really fine drummachines (the mpc series) that you should check out, not sure about their price but I believe the mpc500 is under the $500 range

This sounds like an amazing idea, make one and we'll start promoting it
Nah snag a vintage roland with midi capability
I wish I had a drum kit though, no access or teaching so drum machines, but I don't really enjoy them
wish I could just bash some tubs around
Anyone know where I can find the cheapest Juno-6 in the UK online?
fuck, multitrack recording and audio interfaces are confusing. would be so easy to just buy a massive one for a grand and have all the ins/outs I'll ever need. except for the part of not having a grand to spend on an audio interface.
I managed to pick up an Maudio Profire 2626 for peanuts off ebay. I used its ADAT Ins/Outs for 2 extra 8-channel preamp units giving my 26 in and 26 Out. Fantastic.
I will probably sell it when the X32 Rack comes out though.
Nice, that looks awesome! Would definitely do me fine. I'm thinking that a Komplete Audio 6 might just abou fit my current needs (or at least my planned setup), but I wonder whether some more breathing room on the inputs might be good for the future.
Anyone know any good piano vsts? The one I have are seriously lacking.
Here's some drum stuff from a gig I played yesterday. Sorry for the bad camera..

Wish I'd invested in a big camera stand.

Kontakt pianos or mda ePiano, a hilariously good free piano VST
Like Madman says, Kontakt pianos are good. Most (if not all) the Native Instruments pianos are great, depending on what style you want.

kontakt pianos are good for depthy, dramatic songs, very atmospheric and realistic sounding.
For dance music however, I'd strongly recommend (As previously mentioned) mda ePiano or the ones from Nexus 2.
So I started sending a polite "Thank You" message to every new person who follows me. So this one dude replies:

What would your reason be for getting one? Don't get me wrong, they sound great, it just seems like a bit of a random synth to get. Are you getting it for the analog and/or vintage sound? There are a lot of much cheaper alternatives.
