Yeah, it's good and expensive. So many awesome sounds.
If you're one to use emulated guitars for rock/metal I suppose it's pretty ok, but it's a fucking mind blowingly awesome plugin for funky bass slaps in french house n such
Brought out a new song today, been severally lacking motivation to write anything new so I thought I'd make something that motivates me, it worked I guess. Pretty proud of the finished product.

Since we don't have a bassist or guitarist, we have to emulate them. Only problem now is that I almost have too many sounds :v:
so our school band is playing for the grand opening of a department store in our community and we have to learn this song by next friday (and we just got it today) the snare part is complicated. it's frustrating to play.

Nothing feels worse than failing 2 jazz auditions in a row... Wonder if I'll just go into cocoon-mode and practice constantly for 3 years without any social contact, and beat everyones ass when I get back to civilization.

I am currently in my second year at the music line of my high school with percussion as my primary instrument. I am supposed to practice 2 hours every day on the drum set, snare drum, marimba, timpani and other percussion instruments. In addition I am supposed to practice 15 minutes every day on my mandatory secondary instrument, the piano. But I know damn well that I do not have the motivation to do that, or even try to become a professional musician at all. Besides, I find it more fun to compose and produce music than to play it, so I am going to study music technology when I'm out of high school.

The problem is that I haven't gotten to play with a lot of jazz players.
Does anyone know where I can find some convincing, professional-sounding drum samples for a hip-hop base? Quality over quantity if possible.

Does anyone know ways I could learn more diverse and awesome sounding chords rather than the conventional standard 1-3-5 chords and inverted 1-3-5's?
Experiment with dissonant chords, go with 1-4-7 or something like that, experiment
Experiment with dissonant chords, go with 1-4-7 or something like that, experiment
Hmm, that's a very interesting point you have there, do you have any other particularly distinct and different chord layouts?
Hmm, that's a very interesting point you have there, do you have any other particularly distinct and different chord layouts?
Listen to Jazz music. A lot of the chords have added 7ths, 9ths, 11ths or even 13ths, in addition to fucking around with the standard chords, such as diminished or augmented fifths, removing the root note, suspended seconds or fourths. There is a lot you can do with chords that most people don't know. However, if you're not feeling creative enough, a simple maj7, 7 or m7 can really spice things up. [editline]5th March 2013[/editline] Give me a minute and I'll draw some example chords. [editline]5th March 2013[/editline] Here are some basic ones: C7 Cmaj7, the smoothest chord known to man. Cm7 And then some slightly more complex ones: Cm9, an excellent alternative to the Cm7. C9sus4 And then some more dissonant ones. Use these carefully: Cm7(b5) Caug9 Cminmaj7 This is only scratching the surface when it comes to extended chords. It is also a good idea to remove the root note so that you only play it in the bass, and to experiment with voicing in general. This, for example, is one way to play a Gm9 with both hands. I love demos like this!
I'm starting to pick up some weird pixies/blue-album-weezer vibes in my music. Not really complaining. However, I've been trying to get into synths lately(have only messed around with guitar, bass, and midi drums). Currently working with Synth1. Are there any good tutorials or lessons for software synths, or would I just be better off fiddling with it in my free time?

A good tip is to start with substractive synths. They're powerful and somewhat easy to learn.

I've also been watching a lot of demos like that, especially for Elektron Gear, like that Machinedrum. Saw the announcement when they released the Analog Four and been checking up on the rest of Elektron's gear. Hope to get an Analog Four at some point. One of my favourites:

so our school band was hired to perform at the grand opening of this store in our community. and we got a new song exactly 7 days ago and it sounds like shit, and our director wants to play it at the show. and our school is getting paid $1,000 for it.
what exactly do people mean when they say "that snare is way over compressed" or "those vocals have way too much compression"? What does it sound like?
what exactly do people mean when they say "that snare is way over compressed" or "those vocals have way too much compression"? What does it sound like?
The audio wants to be louder than what the compressor is compressing it to, and it creates this "overcompressed" sound in some french artist's music (Justice, SebastiAn for example) they use it to their advantage, and boy does it sound awesome
The audio wants to be louder than what the compressor is compressing it to, and it creates this "overcompressed" sound
Huh? :v: Anyway, it simply means too much compression is being applied. I.e the ratio is too high/the threshold is too low. It makes the sound dull and unnatural - also, if you're compressing too much (i.e gain reduction barely changes), you may as well just turn the sound down because that's all it's really achieving.
Huh? :v:.
mate I honestly don't know why i try to help people 9 times out of 10 im fucking wrong god damn it phelps
what exactly do people mean when they say "that snare is way over compressed" or "those vocals have way too much compression"? What does it sound like?
if a snare is too compressed you end up a flat TOOSH sound because rather than it having a snap followed by a transient roll-off its instead a constant sound so you hear the snap, the snare wires, and the ring after it which creates a lot of sound and reduces how much the snare sticks out in a mix not very compressed: very compressed
