Is anybody on FP interested in baroque theory?
Idk, maybe that Neon Knight guy. He gets in depth on classical stuff sometimes. I think he might know the most about Baroque counterpoint.
I've found an interest in theory while taking AP Music Theory, I definitely recommend it to anyone curious about SATB music. In other news, I made a little sample on the Garageband app I downloaded.
Is anybody on FP interested in baroque theory?
only to the extent of being trained in counterpoint.
only to the extent of being trained in counterpoint.
Yeah that's pretty much as far as the class goes. I like it, but voice leading frustrates me as I can lead voices for a phrase and determine it impossible to do without violating rules. :(
Playing my first gig ever tomorrow. Woo! :v:
Speaking of achievements, I finally got a full album done. Made a thread in the music section: http://facepunch.com/threads/1173868
I'm trying to get Synthesia to save a .midi file. I just can't seem to figure out how to do it. You guys seem over the standard of Synthesia but I need the midi for this other program that I found in my closet the other day (Band in a Box 2007, haha feels old). Could you guys help me out a bit if it's actually possible to save a midi through Synthesia?

Does anybody do barbershop? We had a substitute for our theory class and we walked down the hall to the chorus room to ask if the chorus director if he had any barbershop music we could waste our time with. We looked over our parts and just started jamming, and he listened to us suggesting we perform for the spring concert. I'm not incredibly familiar with the music style, yet I'm hoping to arrange a song myself (thus music theory) to perform.
let us know how it goes, and try to get a recording please! i love gig recordings. dont know why
Was really awesome, a great experience overall! Too bad the guy who was supposed to record the thing only managed to capture 20 seconds of it.
Was really awesome, a great experience overall! Too bad the guy who was supposed to record the thing only managed to capture 20 seconds of it.
what did you do for it? and what songs? im really interested to know haha
what did you do for it? and what songs? im really interested to know haha
We played one of our own songs, Any Colour You Like, Zimmer's Time (people really dug this one), Porcupine Tree's Trains and Gary Jules's Mad World. What for? Just a gig with two other local bands. :v:
Gary Jule's Mad World!!? you mean Tears for Fears' Mad World. hmph

What's the best stats (I don't know other word to use) for reverb on a dubstep halftime snare? I can't get it to sound right. (I snipped but some one responded so it seems bad to snip it, luckily I cntrl-x'd it instead of deleted)
no reverb is the best
Gated/pre-delayed reverb is probably what you're looking for. Also, I've been looking to expand outside of FLstudio 10, but everything else (except Renoise, which was like 60 euros, and I bought in a heartbeat) costs fucking millions. Why the fuck is Cubase 600 euros for example? I'm liking the looks of Cubase after seeing it used by some people at school, but is it really worth that price...? I noticed there's like a 'lite' edition of Cubase, kinda like how you have the 'Producer' and 'Signature' editions of FLstudio, but how much stuff is missing from that version compared to the full one? I'm already using Logic on my macbook and we're pretty much forced to use it at school, but there's too much shit in Logic that doesn't seem, well... all that logic to me. I get pissed off at least 10 times in a single session. I've been fiddling with Renoise for the past few weeks, and there's so much stuff in there that I love, even though it's hard to get used to not having a piano roll to work with. [editline]1st April 2012[/editline] Jesus fuck, so apparently there's a demo for Cubase, but you need a fucking dongle to run the demo. Seriously..?

Seriously..?
If I were you I'd wait a while to buy a new DAW. I think a trend will start where the developers of those big DAW's bring down their prices. Apple recently dropped the price of Logic Pro to $200, from $500. That's significant. Logic is a serious piece of software and in the same tier as Cubase, etc. Recently Steinberg released a demo version of Cubase 6.5 or something. I find that amusing because they've never had a demo ever. (I wrote this and didn't see your edit. :3 Leaving it in anyway.) There's achem - logistics - involved in that Apple Logic price drop (namely Logic being exclusively distributed digitally now? iirc), but I feel like the major companies are becoming more sensible in terms of price and all across the board. Pro Tools, until recently, required specific interfaces, and recently Waves moved away from the iLok! Logic is exceptionally unintuitive for Apple software, for me. Seriously. You must absolutely try Ableton Live. Live is really intuitive. It's fun and easy to use. In my experience it's a DAW with the least resistance in translating an idea to a tangible song.
no reverb is the best
no reverb, no problems thats what i always find
I just ditched Cubase (Paid!) for REAPER because the cost of upgrades is ridiculous. I'm happy, the routing options are very, VERY powerful. Plus it scales better on multi-processor systems and multiple monitors than cubase ever did. I get the feeling some people aren't taking it seriously simply because it's "too cheap" - I agree with SoundOnSound in that those in the know just regard it as a bargain.
It's the same as how FLstudio (or "Fruity Loops" as I still hear people call it all the time. I mean come on, it's been called FLstudio since version 4 or something) still isn't taken all that seriously and is regarded as "just some toy". I can't argue with the fact that it has been subpar up until the latest 2 or 3 versions, but at the moment it has pretty much all you'd come to expect from a decent DAW. It's even worse how pretty much my entire college (or atleast, the music department) is home to the biggest collection of MAC-extremists ever. They shun Windows PC's and everything that runs on it basically :v:. I stand strong as a FLstudio (and Renoise) user though!
fl studio does kind of suck if you're producing anything other than electronic music in which case ableton beats it anyway
Does schmoe222 still post here?
I post here every once in a while, but I've been busy with school and work so I haven't been posting as much.
fl studio does kind of suck if you're producing anything other than electronic music in which case ableton beats it anyway
Depends on how you like your workflow. Recording is a little bothersome no matter how you look at it, but it's not impossible anyway
I've always despised drums as they have been the hardest for me to improvise. I can kind of do it with a keyboard, but not really. I just got a drum set yesterday and I am currently learning how to play real drums. I need to get a computer down where my drums are so I can do some one man demos with a DAW.

Cubase is just better for my workflow because i can record everything like a tape-recorder. i don't use it for much more than that and I didn't need to pay for 5 because i got it off a friend who replaced his Cubase 5 gear with Apple stuff.
