People can get STD's from sharing the same needles from different people. Those needles are used to inject vaccines into African children. The reason why they don't switch different needles is because they cost too much.
I went to Africa over the summer, in a country called Swaziland. It's pretty much entirely surrounded by South Africa, with one side surrounded by Mozambique. Anyways, I saw AIDS, tuberculosis, and cancer patients who had never had outsiders in their homes come and visit them, mainly because they were rejected by their society because of the diseases they had. I saw babies in cribs at hospitals suffering and crying from malnutrition. It wasn't a pretty sight :(
I mean, I used to joke around about that kind of stuff, but when you see it in person it changes your perspective...

Africa as a continent sure is beautiful, but I can't even begin to imagine all the wrongness, pain and suffering going on every day.
Many of the rumors might be far-fetched, but I've heard some people there rape babies thinking it cures aids. Not to mention the slicing of female sex organs.. Horrible.
