The things Heroes of the Storm removes are all of the things I enjoy about MOBAs and it has absolutely no reasonable appeal to me because of that
300 was not a good movie
300 was not a good movie
300 isn't a good graphic novel while we're at it.
Yeah, one is a well-designed game with intricate mechanics and a wealth of possible interactions between the various types of player actions, leading to a near infinite number of possibilities and thus a high skill cap, and the other is LoL.
just play all 3 mobas like me lol Something being more skill-expressive (since I wouldn't really say it practically has a higher skill cap) doesn't really mean that it's more fun anyways
All this discussion about mobas and no one has brought up the best moba there is, Battlerite.
All this discussion about mobas and no one has brought up the best moba there is, Battlerite.
IMO, I wouldn't really call Battlerite a true moba cause it has almost nothing in common with the the genre other than characters with skills. Has no leveling, lanes, any PvE, no shop, and the game is solely focused on 2v2/3v3 arena combat with rounds.
Totinos pizzas actually aren't too bad, imo. As of recently, I started prefering it over Costco pizza even though I used to like having it. For some reason, it started making me feel sick.
Loot crate is gambling if you're getting a monetary benefit out from it. The whole argument for loot crate gambling popped up after the CSGO lotto incident and further perpetuated by Battlefront 2. Though if you were to look at the purpose of gambling, it's about getting some money out of it. The Steam market is essentially a gambling heaven if you don't care about your items. Same could kinda be said for physical trading card packs where there's a small chance to get your money back and then some.
Even if you can't make money from it it's still a predatory system in the same ways.
Turabian is the best citation style.
Despacito is a fun song and doesn't deserve the hate it gets. Considering how so much of 2017's pop music was either boring dreck or completely worthless, it was nice to hear something so fun, so upbeat and so catchy.

I think the description of 'Multiplayer Online Battle Arena' is pretty apt for what Battlerite is, moreso than LoL honestly (although 'hero brawler' works pretty well for Battlerite as well). I would say that the teamfighting, skill based combat, and top-down RTS-style perspective are the defining features of a MOBA, not so much the lanes and PvE. Limits on shop and leveling are heavily implemented in some of league's offshoot modes. for example (think ARAM or the old Dominion gamemode), but I would still call those 'game modes' rather than a separate game altogether. Even DotA has a lot of popular modes like Pudge Wars that still feel like they are part of the game but with some of the elements you mentioned removed.
Moba is such a stupid term. 'Multiplayer online battle arena' when read literally, pretty much just describes Quake 3. I know arena isnt meant to be taken literal but like what defines an arena? Theres so many multiplayer online battle games that are and are not in arenas and theyre all different genres. LoL, Dota all these games to me are action real-time strategy
That's why the real term should be "dotalikes" or ASSFAGGOTS (Aeon of Strife Styled Fortress Assault Game Going On Two Sides)

Fuck cryptocurrency [editline]3rd March 2018[/editline] And miners, too
That's why the real term should be "dotalikes" or ASSFAGGOTS (Aeon of Strife Styled Fortress Assault Game Going On Two Sides)
"Dota-like" was the popular term until League of Legends popularized "multiplayer online battle arena". "Action real-time-strategy" is considered the most "accurate" term by scholars and journalists but barely anyone uses it. I'm sure ASSFAGGOTS will eventually enter a dictionary though.
90s Alt Rock GF > Big Titty Goth GF
Real time strategy is literally a strategy game thats done in real time. Literally every strategy game that isnt turn based is a real time strategy. Dota, League etc. What would you class them as? They're strategy games that involve action, events are performed in real time. They're certainly not a shooter, puzzle game, platformer for RPG. Am I missing something here. How is 'action real time strategy' a bad description for a game that involves action and strategy that plays out in real time
im just saying that some genre 'classifications' are kinda shit, especially rts, and arts doesnt really make it any better rts could mean literally any game, and action rts is just saying...rts, except with more action? I just feel like there could be more in-depth classifications and genres instead of blanket 'oh yes, this requires strategy to play'
But people know what you mean when you say MOBA, doesn't matter what the acronym stands for at that point.
this may be a product of my own interpretation of the function of a 'genre', but as long as the name serves to call into being a general set of attributes and common elements, then a genre can serve its purpose of separating some things from other things and placing them into categories that people can use to find things they may like that are similar to things they already like (and other such derivative functions, such as not engaging with things they probably won't like based off of common elements shared between things they already don't like) for the most part, "MOBA", as a term, does that-- it calls to mind a competitive multiplayer game with two teams competing on a multi-laned map using individual characters with distinct abilities to destroy increasingly valuable objectives with the end goal of destroying a single objective and winning the game, with a general combined emphasis on short-term action and long-term (long-term referring to 'over an entire match') strategy, individual skill, and team coordination (to varying degrees), but does so in a relatively succinct term. the problem is when you get things that use some amount of those elements without employing all of them, usually while taking things from other genres, which blurs the lines. unfortunately, those games very rarely tend to have direct contemporaries; in other words, individual examples do not justify a genre in and of themselves. giving an individual piece of media its own genre invalidates the concept because it doesn't place them in a position to be compared to other things so that people can gain a general idea of whether or not it will appeal to them before they invest time, money, or other resources into it. the only solution to this is to just not try to place games like battlerite into any genre, and use genres adjacent to them to describe the commonalities they may have with existing classifications.
Doesnt mean its not stupid
what would you use instead? these acronyms are more about being recognizable than descriptive. and we recognize what moba means. "real time strategy" or "role playing game" don't describe shit either, the only reason they don't sound as silly is because we weren't around when the terms were created, like we were with 'moba'
Action real time strategy describes basically nothing. It could mean Command and Conquer, because it's an action oriented RTS, unlike Age of Empires or Rise of Nations.
I literally made posts about what they should be called last page. Action real time strategy is a far more accurate description than multiplayer online battle arena considering you are playing a game that involves both action and strategy in real time. The dota map or LoL map, quite a few mobas dont even represent an arena at all, and you do more than just 'battle'. MOBA completely omits the word strategy which these games are literally built around. And multiplayer onlinr isnt even descriptive. Multiplayer isnt a genre, MMORPGS have MMO at the start to differentiate them from multiplayer games that have a 'massive' amount of people playing in the world simultaneously, not just 10 players per game. And well 'multiplayer online'? Does it need to be established that its both multiplayer and online when majority of popular games that are online are also multiplayer and visa versa? I'm not usually this stubborn when it comes to arguing but I have a really hard time seeing other peoples side of this. I just don't know how its possible to dispute what I am saying
because i'm not disputing that it's a poor description the vast majority of these game acronyms aren't very descriptive. they don't have to be. they're not used to explain the game, they're used as a quick, convenient way to refer to them. you know what RPG means because you're familiar with the games RPG refers to, not because "role-playing game" is a particularly good descriptor. you could make the argument that literally every game ever made puts you in a role and thus, RPG is an useless term, but that'd be a ludicrous thing to take issue with. it's a term that clearly fulfills its role, and it does so because of the familiarity people have with the term, not because of how accurate and specific an explanation it is. trying to change it to something more descriptive, but less familiar, misses the point.
Google play + YouTube music + YouTube Red > Spotify in the amount of content you get for the price. Some artists just aren't on Spotify and neither are a lot of albums. YouTube music will have those artists for sure, you have to give up some audio quality for it but it's worth it
mobas are cancer
The games are fine on their own, its the communities that suck ass
I don't remember a single multiplayer game that didn't have a garbage community. I'd say Team Fortress 2 in days of yore when community servers were still around, but the good servers were just refuges from the weapons-grade retardation that was common elsewhere.
I feel sad when I think about that era, it was like going to your favorite pub after work. :frown: At one point you knew absolutely every one on the server, Halloween events were extra special because only the regulars knew the password and we'd freely swap/trade items to help each other complete their Halloween sets. Then slowly one by one they lost interest in the game and got sucked into Dota/CSGO/Real life things (I watched one player go on a date, get a girlfriend, date said girlfriend for a long time, then propose and they're married now, though he doesn't play anymore ) and played TF2 less and less and then before you knew it, you were the only one, logging in one day to see "Awesome-O's TF2 Server cp_lakeside 0/24" Then you had to go like some refugee to some TF2 2Fort 24/7 32-slot instaspawn server filled with screeching children, some rando playing Goatrance music on mic and all kinds of bizarre server mods.
When the movie Sunshine came out, everyone loved it until the last ~15-20 minutes. I'm the other way around, the ending was my favourite part.
Cool, I get to be the first one to say this: The Shape of Water didn't deserve Best Picture by a long shot. It and Get Out arguably didn't even deserve nominations. They were outclassed by all the other nominees.
Dunkirk as a film was really good, but the amount of inaccuracies just took me out of it. Like I’m not even trying to sound like a “but actually” kind of person, but the stuff they were getting wrong is all available on the internet, and I’m sure a swarm of reenactors would gladly assist in costumes for next to nothing.
i don't really understand why someone would play pubg over fortnite, its like the same game but with a boring, gritty, grey filter over it
Fortnite lacks a first person only mode. EDIT: SSB Melee would be a better game without Flaco. Being able to do so much with 3 really good attacks (dair/shine/laser) makes him less interesting than most of the roster and the main purpose of his laser is to ruin what makes fighting/party game neutral fun by disrupting ground movement at extremely low risk for a projectile. There's no other game that lets you throw out a lockdown projectile without committing a decent number of frames, burning meter to cancel, or using an assist cooldown.
Prey should have been at least another third of its length. It was too short for an 0451. Can't wait for the expansion, Arkane has a great reputation for expansions.
