I’m at work rn but when I’m off in about five more hours I can surely enlighten you all The draft is one of the reasons but I got some more when I’m not at the ol grindstone
How about eliminate the draft instead
no i wanna see how this unfolds
Or just extend it to both sexes in the meantime, which almost happened 2 years ago until congressional stuff stripped that feature from a bill.
Why? You don’t want to fight for your country when it needs you most?
...? Guys, I think we have a new crazy
If he does he can enlist anyway? Not sure what the problem is. The draft is useless.
I don't value my country more than anyone else's. Nationalism is a disease to me and fighting over arbitrary lines on the map is stupid.
No.
When was the last time the United States went to war strictly for land. when was the last time any European country fought wars strictly for land, it doesn’t happen anymore so what’s your point?
You seemed to miss my point. I'm not talking about land. I'm talking about the concept of nationhood itself.
The last time two times people were drafted for war were the korean and vietnam wars. In-between there was also peacetime conscription too. Those weren't times when our country needed people the most. Also unwilling conscripts make pretty rubbish troops and there isn't really reason to believe that the US will have a shortfall of volunteers if needed.
Yeah Vietnam was definitely defending MUH FREEDUMS
Why don’t you move to a country with no armed forces then if you don’t plan on serving, even if the draft calls on you to. Seems kind of lazy and cowardly to reap all the liberties and benefits this country has to offer if you won’t give them anything in return.
like taxes? and services?
The party that loves to slash national support for common people is also the one that masturbates over "serving your country" most frequently. Fuck that. I was born into this country. I didn't choose to live here, and a nation exists to serve its people, not vice versa. We already have the world's most powerful military via voluntary enrollment and if our way of life is legitimately threatened, I will enroll voluntarily.
"Liberties and benefits" lol. If I could choose which country I live in I'd pick a Nordic one in a heartbeat, and hell, I'd even serve in their conscription too because I get far more in return for living there. Too bad I don't quite have the means to move.
Yes, because military service is the ONLY way to give back to your country. The ONLY way!
But... why don't you just move there? Everyone knows travel costs nothing and is completely unrestricted.
that go directly towards paying things like roads, water, and plenty of other government services want to abolish our armed forces and just pay more in taxes and fund other armies to fight for us? i don’t have time to reply to everybody yet but if the draft is useless and you don’t think we’ll ever use it why don’t you treat it like insurance. You hope you’ll never have to use it but if an accident ever were to happen you surely want it.
They didn't even say to abolish the armed forces entirely though. But to instead have it be a volunteer service, paid for by taxes. It really wouldn't be that difficult to reinstate conscription if needed anyways.
nah
Eh. War between developed nations is obsolete due to nuclear deterrence anyway
The whole point of the LGBT rights movement is that they’re the same as everyone else. They're not deviants or perverts, they happen to be like everyone else except in our sexual orientation. Pride parades undermine all of that and are just giant "LOOK AT ME I'M SPECIAL" wankfests. I couldn't care less if someone is gay, but stop being such an annoying prick about it.
It's not about being the same as everybody else, at all. It's about expressing ourselves however we want.
still waiting to be redpilled here btw
These proxy wars between the west and Russia/China can only continue for so long. Someday relations will reach a tipping point.
bitch this is a black pill this isn't MGTOW bullshit plus i'm still at work sorry
I agree with the draft as long as it does not discriminate, does not allow for buying your way out of it, and only for defense of nation. People saying that it's not worth fighting over some lines on a map seem to be ignoring the awful shit that often happens to conquered nations. And even if you weren't facing the worst of the worst at the hands of your occupiers you would be losing your sovereignty, national pride, and likely most of your civil liberties in a best case scenario. Honestly if you aren't willing to fight for the place you live in then maybe you should move to a place you would be willing to fight for, or work on improving your home until you deem it worthy of defending.
The idea that mainland America is going to be invaded any time in the near future is absurd. The only wars America is fighting are ones on foreign soil. A draft in such a case is entirely unnecessary.
