I couldn't find anything to get hyped about at e3.
I couldn't find anything to get hyped about at e3.
Very little seemed that interesting. Some stuff was neat, like the new Mario game and getting to see some tidbits of Far Cry 5, but otherwise it seemed fairly meh.
Could chalk that up to me focusing on the summer semester of school that's started, but honestly I think it was just a lack of interest.
The pre-pre-show was the only part of E3 that I watched.
I've taken formal logic classes in college and have been doing arguments for a while but I've never really understood No True Scotsman honestly. Like, ISIS are indeed Muslim, but is it that much of a stretch of logic to say that they are not an accurate representation of the global Muslim population? And is it really that outlandish to say that the worst of a community (this comes up a lot in arguments about Feminism and the like) shouldn't entirely delegitimize that community or the movement that they represent?
It would be nice if people could see what things are on their own merits and drawbacks that are independent from their fringe extremist proponents, but often, when I say I'm a feminist, all I get is people shoving videos of people like the Hugh Mungus woman shoved in my face.
I think there's a trend of conveniently dismissing anything that doesn't match modern, Western morals as "not true Christianity" (or Islam, etc.).
Which isn't to say that e.g. you have to follow Leviticus to be a "true Christian", but the opposite claim that a true Christian can't follow Leviticus is pretty absurd.

Isn't this flaming, and bullying?
It's a shame to see a thread about expressing unpopular opinions, but when a guy expresses one, he got attacked left and right.
Isn't this flaming, and bullying?
I'm pretty sure that's a legitimate accusation being made and not just calling names.
Even if it's not, FP's definition of flaming is pretty loose. You can get away with a lot of shit as long as you don't directly go straight-up "you idiot" or worse

It's flaming if the person just hurls unqualified insults and abuse like "fuck off", "you dumbass", or "stupid cunt". Describing someone with negative adjectives doesn't fall under that.
Also, the point of the thread is simply to air your unpopular opinions. It says nothing about you being protected from repercussions.

It's not the individual attack that I'm concerned with, it's the overall sense of purpose of the thread and attitude that can facilitate that.
In a thread called 'Unpopular Opinions', I expect us to have a more welcoming attitude towards unpopular opinions. Maybe not being down right bosom buddy with them, but by having more tolerance. Otherwise, it would discourage expression of such opinions if fear of backlashes. At least, we can reason with them with more graceful manner, not by calling them
'bigoted troll'
'stop spouting ur stupid shit'
and similar disheartening insults. Especially if we're ganging up on him, that is not a suitable 'repercussions' anymore, this is just borderline bullying.
If it's in OIFY or something, probably it would be excusable. But in a thread where people open up their heart and try to express their unpopular opinion in hope of it reaching somebody, it could really hurt them a lot.

While I agree with you that criticism should be a bit more restrained here, that was an opinion that was actually harmful to people being bullied. It deserved every bit of flak it got.

I mean damn, that was probably the dumbest opinion I'd ever read on Facepunch, and I've read many posts from pentium.

People tend to restrain themselves for the most part anyways. Most opposition to an opinion is mostly people just screwing around or calmly discussing it.
shouldn't you come here willing to defend your opinions so that you can learn why it's unpopular and try to prove why it doesn't deserve to be?
I mean opinions aren't some holy thing to be loved and protected, and people attacking your ideas doesn't mean they're attacking you. You should happily throw it out if you can't defend it.

Don't you think that is for the debate/Polidick thread?
When we first see the title 'Unpopular Opinion', the first though that come is 'this is a thread for unpopular opinions to be thrown about, and being unpopular they have nowhere else to voice it except in this thread that asked people to post them'. Being unpopular, they are naturally leaning more extremely towards left or right.
Most of the opinions are well within the range of discussion of other threads, but people post it here to avoid severe backlash and ridicules that they would otherwise receive if posted in the threads that is 'pro' towards the topic of their opinion.
For example, That's That would not post about punching people in Super Friendly Social Advice Thread. Instead, he would come here to express and share his opinion on his method of dealing with bullies, which is punching them in their nut. He expects that this thread is the place to share his unpopular opinions, because the title is inviting him to. If he wants to defend his opinions to the death, he would have posted in the mass debate section.
I don't think it's fair to group-jump on people expressing their unpopular opinion in a thread that encourage them to. It's defeating the purpose of the thread.
Just because you have a opinion that is unpopular doesnt mean we arent allowed to say its dumb when it is lol. Nowhere in the history of this thread has this been the case.

On Subject, raw ramen with soup base (preferably the spicy one) tastes so fucking good.
Points if you pan cook it.
unpaid labour (such as scummy internships and apprenticeshops) should be abolished entirely. if you do work you should get paid for it, none of this "you get valuable work experience" bullshit because it's just a shallow excuse used to exploit what amounts to free labour. same goes for zero-hour contracts. start looking into restricting outsourcing too
I stand by that the die-hard Bayformers fans are the worst types of movie fans. With past experiences on the first week of TF4 they whoop and holler during all of the big action pieces,"Way to go 'Bee!" they leave their shit everywhere after movie, and they always chatter or gasp loudly during a "big super duper reveal" that anyone with half a brain cell can figure out. Even still, they are at their worst online. Observe from afar on what happens when a popular reviewer insists that they use their minds, challenge themselves, and assert their minds and tell Hollywood "we deserve better movies."
These guys are the reason why Hollywood's been putting out shit for years. I just want to watch a fun/dumb movie in peace...

"Unpopular opinions" doesn't mean "idiotic opinions".
I'll respect an opinion like "Sonic Generations wasn't a good game." I may disagree with It, but I won't attack them over it. However, I won't respect "Kids who are bullied deserve it for being weak." and will voice my problem with the person for their shitty opinion.

Yeah but you get the bonus of portability (in some)
Cave Story is an insanely overrated game and is mediocre at best.
Several enemies are incredibly cheap, and random spots in the game have absolutely insane difficulty curves for no reason, rather than having a natural progression of difficulty.
This is only made worse by sometimes abhorrent save-game placement.
Runs through certain difficult areas begin feeling like chores rather than a proper challenge when you've died near the end and had to restart in the previous area due to not having a single save in that area.
Don't know where you've been around at but it was pretty fucking popular prior to the boom of indie sidescrolling platformers
I like circle avatarts
Madvillainy isn't that great of an album. There are too many tracks, and they're all so short. It feels like a rough draft of two albums worth of material. The instrumentals are nice, the flows and lyrics are good, but I don't really care for any of the songs all that much.

Cave Story's love for making you go against common sense TWICE to get the best ending and the best weapon is a horrible sin of game design that almost all game designers don't commit for obvious reasons.
Facepunch should legalise flaming because to be honest I really can't argue without throwing in a few 'dog cunt's and whatnot. Not that I have legitimate feelings of anger towards whoever I argue with, I just feel the need to call them mean words in between my arguments.

explains a lot
it's incredible how strong the anti-violence sentiment is. all the late night shows are tearing up about it, hell one of the top comments in the massive reddit thread was gilded for saying 'nothing good has ever come of political violence.' the US was fucking BORN of political violence, the whole damn world is a product of political violence.
Ofcourse I'm not saying to go kill a bunch of congressmen or anything. But civil disobedience is needed when the future of this planet is in danger. The government is getting more oppressive and are ruled by rich elites. It will only get worse. Liberals think they can just sit on their asses smoking weed and whining on the internet is going to change things. The biggest threats to mankind are purposely being ignored in order for the upperclasses to keep their pocket fat. Soon climate change and automation will change everything. There will be no more jobs for our increasing population, not everybody can become a nuclear lawyer astronaut doctor. Universial income is inevitable. The US has already spent trillions on proxy wars in the middle east over the petrodollar. Worshipping a nonrenewable resource that will run out of supply within a century. Our entire economy depends on the petrodollar and instead of becoming independent from it we sell billion dollar arms deal with tyranical countries that fund terrorism in order to disstablized middle eastern countries. We have millions in prision over things like weed and other victimless "crimes" just so the private prision complex can keep its cell full. The war on drugs is a joke, a war on citizens and does nothing but prop up pyschopathic drug cartels that make enough money to be featured on the stock market.
What I'm saying is that , disobedience and rioting is necessary in order to keep the upper class in check. Not now, but eventually there is going to reach a point. Tensions are high and to prevent huge civil unrest we need to kick these politicans out, jailed any slimy rich fuck that tries to bribe or buy out OUR property, ban lobbyism, renew worker rights, bitch slap the president, free every non violent drug offender, nationalize high education, basic healthcare for all.
:words:
Could just elect people who actually do their jobs and re-implement the fairness doctrine to crack down on the media's spread of misinformation.
But I'm sure you'd prefer just breaking shit and getting violent instead, otherwise you wouldn't be using the word "necessary."
Civil disobedience isn't shooting people. It's breaking laws like trespassing, not paying your taxes, etc. peacefully in order to resist.
Also your policy prescriptions to fix America are so simplistic and idealistic it's hilarious. Just flip a switch and "nationalize" (it already is ay lmao) high education, free healthcare, ban people who buy things, ban something that's essential for democracy, etc..
