Sorry I misspoke. Reptile ass is mildly better than diet soda.

That's what I used to think about Reddit. Then I realized in the run up to this New Year that I needed to leave for my sanity, that 9 years of my life was enough. Made a new year's resolution to not go back to Reddit or comment on it and so far, so good. It's too early to tell but at this point, I'm kinda just hoping to make it to February end so I know I can quit it. So far, I've actually enjoyed my leave of absence and a lot of the things I used to do before it got replaced by aimlessly bouncing around on Reddit - Doing crosswords, reading books - it's slowly coming back. I feel nicer for leaving.
At some point I'll probably ask a mod here to permaban me or something (maybe when it's time to shift to the new forums, I won't) , but for now, it's okay.
George Harrison is extremely underrated as a guitarist and has the best solo career out of any of the Beatles
I think skeuomorphism is misunderstood. Almost all of it looks ugly because of unnecessary & poor texture work, i.e. overdoing it. "Minimalist Skeuomorphism" should exist.

Something like this, maybe even simpler. I'm not saying it should be the standard, but an alternative design route for alternative applications - such as video games, where such realism can serve to create an immersive & impressive UI.
[T]https://www.designer-daily.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/01.jpg[/T]
What I'm saying is, skeuomorphism is a niche that can be done either right or wrong - an alternative for where it fits, and when it's executed properly.
I think SpaceX should stick to space tourism and leave the exploration part to the professionals like NASA because they aren't experienced enough for that sort of thing imo.
NASA hasn't been doing shit lately when it comes to space exploration
I mean, ISRO, the Indian Space Agency has been doing a lot with very little - it''d be good to create an organization that's basically a science UN, but not shit, just for the purposes of unifying space/deep sea exploration as a human endeavour, not any one country's politicians pipe-dream.
Somebody brought this up on Twitter and I thought I would share their possibly unpopular opinion here...
I think that looking at reviews for video games before buying them makes them less fun, especially if it is something at the shelf of a store. Maybe not even just video games, but also books and movies. Just buy it if it seems appealing. Things like video games can be subjective, and looking at reviews beforehand results in the negative parts being emphasized, and you are not enjoying what YOU really think is enjoyable.
This is what anyone who's ever tried to sell anything that wasn't good tried to convince people. They wouldn't want you to do your research and would prefer you impulse buy anything with a flashy cover and description on the back.
Hence why I don't buy games that have a stamp of "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews on Steam.

what the fuck
what the fuck
well, it is unpopular opinions.
It seems like we've created a hole for ourselves with game controllers.
The DS4 has a great trackpad in the middle for menu's, it's solid and comfy, has a gyro for aiming. The Steampad is a seriously accurate controller that really tries to stand out, has dual stage triggers, grips, two pads. Nintendo is Nintendo and only makes the best everything, but they haven't done anything 'new' really.
the xbone controller is the worst of all of them with no features and nothing really unique about it. It's a cheapo piece of shit and you have to pay a premium just to get the good version.
thanks microsoft, for going no where and not innovating anything.
[editline]13th January 2018[/editline]
I've created an obsession with finding controllers that do unique things or have a unique feature.
The DS4 and Steampad are the only 2 that have anything that really stand out, and maybe even the alpha grip. Everything else is either a weird layout or just a shitty remake of the current standard, or even just a single handed version of the 'standard'
The Xbone controller is legit the best controller out there. Gyro aiming is jank as fuck and most games which use it are only 'better' with it because they severely limit the analogue stick control. I hate touch pads, so the steam controller is right out for me, but the PS4 is worse because the touch pad is just a giant one use button because no one is willing to put the time into using it properly.
Also of all the current gen controllers I've used (the non-knock off ones) the XBone controller has the best build quality. I want a controller that plays the games good, not one full of dumb gimmicks that'll be outdated in 5 years.

You say "plays the games good", and "not full of dumb gimmicks", but the DS4 literally can do that just fine? Better even, I'd say, it's higher quality and you don't have to use the pad or gyro. The Steam controller as well when applied correctly is insanely good at what it does.
I've used gyro aiming with mouse emulation. For on the fly aiming it works better than joysticks ever will, however this was with steam, don't own a PS4. Analogue stick control for aiming is massively limited to the point where it feels impossible to play with.
I've managed to make the touchpad on the DS4 work, and I've turned it into 8 individual buttons in big picture mode. In TESO that means I can use it for hotbar presets and Map/Inv/Quests/Skills. The steam controllers pads are far better quality but it definitely is nice to have that extra set of buttons, though that still needs gyro aiming sadly.
The XBone controller feels pretty weak compared to the DS4. Build quality is a lightweight really, especially considering how poor the DPad is. It doesn't attempt to do a single innovative thing and it shows how stagnant Microsoft is when it comes to their console. Hell, they even regressed and made the controller WORSE than the xbox 360 controller, which was honestly the most solid in its time.
At least attempting something new is an attempt to get us out of having zero alternatives. Grip buttons are easily my 'biggest' feature atm.
[editline]13th January 2018[/editline]
Joysticks and 4 face buttons with a dpad. It just doesn't cut it. Merely having grip buttons is such a broad improvement, because those are both highly functional and incredibly intuitive. Dual stage triggers give a much deeper level of control too, I'd say. Gyro's aren't good in every game but when used correctly create a superior level of control.
I will say though that the DS4's biggest flaw is that the pad does indeed cause the pause/select buttons to be a bit awkward, making them 'poke out more' would fix it though. The Xbones triggers are also nicer.
I PERSONALLY like DS4's layout better, however there are many reasons where Xbox's layout is just as good.
Before the current gen of consoles, every controller was the same thing with a slightly different layout. That isn't good at all.
The Steam Controller is my favorite controller of all time. It could really use a hardware revision but the software, amazing triggers and utterly fantastic haptics make it incredible.
Holding a Steam Controller while it's off does a really good job of making you hate it, but feeling the touchpad haptics makes it all make sense.

Tbh I'd consider the Steam controller and DS4 about equal 'top tier'. With the only difference being 'what do you need right now, sticks or a pad?'
The Xbone Elite I've yet to use but it'd obviously be up there. The grip buttons, albeit not 'their own buttons' cause they just emulate ABXY, are are pretty huge deal
"thot" is the worst piece of slang ever. In theory, it's a shorter way of saying "that hoe over there". Great, you've cut down the number of syllables you're using to make a catchy one syllable word instead, right? No, because people use it to replace literally any time somebody would otherwise say "hoe", and all those other words stuck in there make no sense in the context it's used. Every time somebody uses "thot" it looks like "Wow she's such a 'that hoe over there'". It takes a short slang word, adds a bunch of pointless nonsense, and then abbreviates the nonsense so we're right back where we started.
yeah prescriptivist linguists are wasting their time and I'm not going to whine about it outside of the designated "shitty opinions" zone but it still annoys me because I'm a pedantic fuckface
Also people using Thicc for people that are literally not annoys the shit out of me.

My roommate has an Elite. The sticks are horribly wobbly and barely feel attached to anything. If you shake the controller the sticks will bounce and rattle in place. Worst controller I've ever used.

it's the 'good version' of the xbone controller and yet it's still terribly made? Gee thanks microsoft
Shaking and squeezing the DS4 and steampad, they both feel solid. Fixing a steampad is also insanely easy, in the case that you drop it, hell you just pop it back together like nothing, though the build isn't as good as DS4's.
I broke an XBone's dpad just dropping it (Anecdotal issues of course) and the thing feels just low quality and flimsy. How did it even leave QA.

Yep. If I turn the thing upside down, the sticks both go clunk and drop about 4mm with no resistance to speak of. It's horrible.
The grip buttons are pretty wobbly too.
He hasn't even worn it through or anything. He hates using it, it was like that from the factory.
I use both the XBone controller and PS4 controller regularly and I think that they're both really nice and solid controllers. I think I prefer the XBone one just a little bit more though just because the shape is better for my hands.
