Yep. If I turn the thing upside down, the sticks both go clunk and drop about 4mm with no resistance to speak of. It's horrible.
The grip buttons are pretty wobbly too.

In a nutshell
I just hate controllers in general tbh. Clunky and needs dumbed down UI to work properly
I hate using keyboards. Unless we're talking numpads or gamepads I have no idea why some people swear by them universally.
Controllers are uniform to the hands and feel comfortable, for me anyways. Good simple buttons to mash.
You also don't need to dumb UI down for controllers as much as you'd think, but devs sure as fuck love doing that anyways.

Customization;
Don't like how the buttons on your KB feel? Get a switch sample pack and find a switch type that fits your taste.
Don't like the default button layout? you have dozens of other buttons to assign shit to.
KB doesn't fit your hands well? try different KB form factors.
Price
XBone and PS4 controllers will set you back 60 and 45 bucks respectively for something that has very little functionality compared to a KB. If you have a computer and a console, or use a controller with your computer you're essentially burning a massive hole in your wallet for redundant hardware. Where as even the shitty KB that came with your prebuilt for free will do more, and have far greater customization as far as control schemes go.
Control schemes are a non issue because steam big picture gives you far more flexibility, it could even be argued that a controller/mouse combo would be even better than a keyboard.
Cost isn't really an issue. My steampad as only 33usd and a DS4 for 44usd. My keyboard however was 100usd but obviously you can get a good keypad or keyboard for around a controllers cost as well, but all keyboards are almost always the same layout, except gamepads like the orbweaver/g13/numpads/etc, however those are what I go for for keyboard gaming
Button layout isn't really an issue for controllers, and if one controller doesn't suit your needs you go with a different one.
Not only that but a joystick takes many buttons and puts it into a single button. It has better control than WASD + Shift + Control. My thumb has access to the joystick and an 8 button 'dpad', my pinkie and ring is on a grip, and then my middle/pointer has the trigger and bumper. Obviously though a key gamepad fixes that by giving the thumb a greater amount of control, at that point its preference in every game.
Really a controller is just a matter of taking buttons and wrapping it around an object that you hold in your hand. With the right buttons the only difference is that it's formed in a way that better spreads buttons out per finger.
[editline]14th January 2018[/editline]
When it comes to a game-keypad VS a keyboard
the thumb usually has a small dpad or joystick for 4 to 5 buttons, and then 2 secondary buttons. That definitely wins over a normal keyboard. With a keyboard you have this large block of extra buttons that just don't do anything. I've never needed more than what a controller or small keypad could do
If you have wonky shaped hands that don't fit the shape of the controller, or you find the distribution of buttons on the controller to also be an issue then you're in a rough spot with a controller. Where as on a KB you have a massive grid of buttons, so things can be as cramped or splayed out as you need. This is a huge deal for some games are button intensive like Dota 2.
Also I really dont see how a joystick can be called better than WASD, they're inherently less precise and a joystick for aiming is so bad its an industry standard that they get aim assist on consoles.
Joysticks for aiming are pretty much universally a joke really, the aim assist on consoles they use are practically autoaim. For movement they have that nice full level of control and variable speed. When it comes to keyboards VS controllers I'm talking about buttons, rather than sticks VS Mice. The steam controller does make for a solid mouse emulating controller though, I definitely enjoy it.
You can still have a hand that doesn't fit a keyboard too, and if you have to spread it out it'll start feeling a bit strange. Though for both cases that's a matter of finding the right controller or keyboard. Controllers have been modded for people with disabilities after all, while keyboards with assistance are always for typing.

That being said it's obviously a matter of subjectivity for most games. However many still work better for one style over the other. Though one was designed for games and the other was designed for typing.
I find some controllers so annoying that they're practically unusable because I can't enjoy playing anything with them, but only good ones.
I mostly just really hate the N64 and GameCube controllers. They're horribly made, the N64 has an awkward shape, the GC has horrible face buttons and triggers, it's just a shitshow and I can't play anything on them.
Pretty much everything else is fine. I actually like the Wiimote. The D-pad is pretty satisfying and the shape works, for some reason.
I find controllers to always feel better for most games compared to a KB+M. The only games where a KB is better are first person games (or anything that needs really precise aim) and strategy stuff

I recommend anyone who finds a keyboard unpleasant to use to try one of these out, even if it doesn't get you to use a KB for gaming, it could can find something that just makes general computer use more pleasant.
A word of warning: typing on blues is a LOT louder than you think it is from trying a switch sampler.
The Gamecube controller is still the most completely perfect controller for Mario Kart and Smash Bros imo. The notches are super useful, the triggers are well suited to both games, and the face buttons are well oriented specifically for them. I play both games enough that the GCN controller still gets a lot of use from me despite being pretty hugely inferior for most things.

I'd never used a gamecube controller before the wii u came out with adapters and I wanted a somewhat more reliable controller.
There pretty sweet.
steam controller best controller, I like being able to control my computer while I'm sleeping on my bed.

I like to play games without listening to the Audio/Music, like to put on other people playing games (vinesauce mainly).
Unless it's a game I care about most of the time I just do that.
(Should I do it with Skyrim? Never played it, don't really care about the whole story aspect, just wanna have some fun.
Would ignoring the Music and Audio take away from the experience?)
I only really like playing games without music if its a situatoin like i'm grinding or farming items while having a video/podcast on in the background to keep me company during it.
i think for your first playthrough of any game you should keep the sound on considering soundtracks can be a MASSIVE part of the experience, otherwise you might be missing out on a good score (not forgetting the standard for OSTs in games is quite high and has been for a while, theres so many good ones that theyre to be expected
Yeah I agree, some games I do both (like with Mario Odyssey, do the main Moons while listening to the game, then get the rest of them while listening to Vinesauce, or with BOTW where I listen to the game when entering a new area/cutscene plays)

Very long games with music are annoying because then you hear the music like 500 times over and over again
Most games I just disable it, nix the Rimes and the Abzu's and the Aer's of the world where music is a big part of the experience.
Call of Duty doesn't work well for me M&KB, but I cannot stand playing Battlefield (3,4 and 1) with a controller. It's weird.
I largely place that on me playing CoD on the PS3 with my friends for a really long time, and playing Battlefield solo on my PC.
I hate playing games with controllers. I don't really like playing games where it's pretty much the only viable control scheme, and I don't think being a port is a valid excuse to not bother with creating good controls for keyboard/mouse users.
If a game is on the PC it should be able to be enjoyed with typical PC hardware. Like a mouse. And a keyboard. I don't want to have to use a controller for a completely different system to enjoy a game that was moved off of that system.
The Xbone controller is legit the best controller out there. Gyro aiming is jank as fuck and most games which use it are only 'better' with it because they severely limit the analogue stick control. I hate touch pads, so the steam controller is right out for me, but the PS4 is worse because the touch pad is just a giant one use button because no one is willing to put the time into using it properly.
Also of all the current gen controllers I've used (the non-knock off ones) the XBone controller has the best build quality. I want a controller that plays the games good, not one full of dumb gimmicks that'll be outdated in 5 years.
Okay but
• Bulky as fuck and the bumpers are uncomfortably far away compared to every other controller
• No rechargeable battery
• You say "best build quality" but across the room both of my Xbone controllers sit having stick drift and one having a mushy bumper while not a single one of my four Dualshock 4s have a single issue.
• Requires large proprietary dongle to connect wirelessly to PC while DS4 just uses Bluetooth
• Two fewer buttons for bindings than a DS4
If someone's really insistent on getting something that isn't a DS4 and demands absolute simplicity without completely optional features for some reason, I still wouldn't recommend an Xbone controller over just getting a wired Rock Candy 360 controller for $40 cheaper.
The only reason I ever use my Xbone controller is to play my Xbone. I don't even use it to play Play Anywhere games, because the Dualshock 4 works natively with them so I don't have to give up comfort when I'm playing ReCore.
Okay but
• Bulky as fuck

To be fair the steam controller is like twice as bulky, its the thickest device in the universe. I don't think bulk is really a problem if it feels comfortable. I'd say the button placement on everything but the bumpers is actually pretty nice for the xbox controller. Subjective, but non-parallel sticks do annoy me however.
Xbox controller went from having a rechargeable pack you could take out... to just to AA's. what the fuck?
I mean it'd be OK if the battery life was stellar. The steamcontroller has an amazing battery life and normal AA's. The DS4 has a flashlight installed on the back so you have to turn it off or it'll just suck the energy dry.
The Catcher in the Rye is a very overrated book. To me, it just feels like someone is poorly narrating the relatively dull life of an edgy and annoyingly cocky teenager.
Fallouts from Bethesda are both bad games and bad Fallouts with lost potential hidden in the interesting universe.
And people saying "lol they hate new Fallouts because they are not isometric"? They have plain dumb argument...
I played all Dark Souls games but still love Severance - Blade of Darkness more. Shame it was pulled out by Codemasters, silly publisher though it was racing game that need to be removed after new session or something?
The Catcher in the Rye is a very overrated book. To me, it just feels like someone is poorly narrating the relatively dull life of an edgy and annoyingly cocky teenager.
Same, this book was worse than most crap that was forced in the school(s)...
There are just some games that really cannot be played properly with digital controls. Unless you have one of those funky analog keyboards then you will have a much worse time playing basically any sim game - especially flight and racing sims.
A controller should just be another item in your PC gamer toolbox. Something you pull out when a game plays best with one, then you put it away again when you're done.
Racing games benefit a lot from controllers because you have more control over the vehicle
meanwhile with mouse+kb, which is just boolean, vehicles perform terribly

I feel like the only reason that anyone talks about it is that it was considered shocking for 1951, and it inspired the guy to kill John Lennon. It isn't a bad book, just not a classic.
Samus Returns is better than AM2R.
Dark souls 2+dlc is the best dark souls.
Without DLC dark souls 1 is the best.
Racing games benefit a lot from controllers because you have more control over the vehicle

I'm so used to mouse+kb for driving in games that when I use a controller I tap the stick all the way in the direction I want to go in repeatedly instead of just moving it normally, it feels better even though it's objectively worse
I don't get why people laugh at other people over things they can't control. Laughing at people because they're autistic, ugly, short, because of whatever country they come from, because of whatever physical or mental illness they might have. I can enjoy a bit of man-slips-on-banana schadenfreude but otherwise I just find it repulsing, and the people who indulge in it too. It's as if they had part of their own humanity stripped away, hardened by disgusting cynicism.
but this is unpopular opinions, not common sense :p
I know, but on the other hand I see people constantly, every day, doing these very things. IRL and on the internet. Probably not actually aware of what they're doing, in their mind they're just having a good laugh and there's no harm.
I know the actual answer is "who the fuck cares it takes two seconds" but to me the most logical conclusion to the "leave the toilet seat up vs down" thing is absolutely down
Racism, bigotry, whatever shouldn’t be seen as a yes/no question, KKK or MLK. No one immune to being biased, ignorant and misunderstanding. there’s an infinite number of gradations between your average Joe and Donald Trump. We all might have a prejudiced intrusive thought now and then, or a habitual line of thinking we don’t realize is there. No one can catalogue and trace every single attitude or feeling they picked up over their lives. “Colour blindness” is a declaration that you’re somehow immune to something every other human has been exposed to.
Being called racist/bigot/etc doesn’t mean you are litterally turbo hitler, so reserving the word racist/bigoted/etc for the worst of the worst means people who have a little racism in them can just pack away the “racist” category as being “not me because I’m not hitler.” If you can’t accept that you are capable of having and have had bigoted thoughts, you had (and I had) false confidence based on nothing.
What I've personally seen is that people have "revealed preferences" and "declared preferences" even when it comes to hot button issues like race, religion or LGBT issues. I've been in the rather unique position of actually dating outside my race more than within my race. As a direct consequence of this, I've realized that there are a lot of people who have no problem with black people....... until their son/daughter dates/wants to marry one. Same goes with Muslim people or brown people or Asian people. Everyone's very tolerant of gay/lesbian people....until their daughter/son comes out as being lesbian/gay at which point true colors about how accepting they are now that it's time to put that "tolerance" to the test. Otherwise, they wouldn't dare go against the hivemind so they keep that shit buried by nodding their head in the direction people think they should when asked those questions.
I've stopped a long time ago believing anyone, even close friends, who say they aren't racist, aren't against muslim people, aren't against gay/lesbian people because words are cheap, your actions in the face of such bigotry aren't. A lot of the people I liked have failed this miserably. A lot of the older generation shouldn't get a free pass for such shit (but do), but no young person has an excuse for believing this garbage anymore other than finding an active reason to hate something.
Also, on the subject of unpopular opinions - I finally got around to watching the two new Star Wars films. Don't care much for them, didn't feel like there was enough story development compared to the original three that established the universe. Wouldn't consider it as bad as the prequels, but... not much better than them either.
when i realised dusks stuff is in the base game, i could honestly go without the dlc entirely. i think the dark souls 1 dlc was kind of weak, its a cool throwback but theres not much thats new in it apart from some boss battles and artorias doesnt appeal to me as much as everyone else it seems so ultimately a lot of the stuff is forgettable. its cool to have extra stuff sure but its kind of underwhelming overall. if i ever touch the dlc its just me beating the sanctuary guardian then running to get the titanite slab in kalameets boss area then leaving the dlc
