America should have boots on the ground in Ukraine. They gave up their nukes on the assurance that the US and other NPT groups would back them up if they needed help militarily. Now they do, and we are just sitting back and watching them fight alone. As an American with American values I feel we should be supportive of their goals of independence from Russia.

As an American with American values I feel we should be supportive of their goals of independence from Russia.
This is why you're nowhere near running the country. -The US and Russian leadership presently have compatible Ideologies. -Ukraine offers little, there's not much to gain from occupying it, new military bases are a favourite of the US but that'd just make more problems. -Assuming Allies don't join the US, Russia would probably win, and that'd be a big embarrasment. The US would be at a ridiculous logistic disadvantage due to the geography and location of crimea, the US have been training for unconventional warfare for too long, and the US already has it's military fingers in a bunch of other pies. Also, if you actually liked to read relevant information, you'd know that crimea fought itself and the russians rolled in. A big portion of the civilian pop were pro russian, Pro-russian activists outnumbered pro-ukraine activists, huge numbers of Ukranian soldiers defected. Here's something I borrowed from wikipedia
A joint survey by American government agency Broadcasting Board of Governors and polling firm Gallup was taken during April 2014.[256] It polled 500 residents of Crimea. The survey found that 82.8% of those polled believed that the results of the Crimean status referendum reflected the views of most Crimeans, whereas 6.7% said that it did not. 73.9% of those polled said that they thought that the annexation would have a positive impact on their lives, whereas 5.5% said that it would not. 13.6% said that they did not know.]/quote] Back to the main point. The US invading Crimea is stupid. Dropping Crimea weapons would just be messy. Trade sanctions, which is what they did, is the most sensible choice.
The unpopular opinion regarding valentines day would be that you actually like it. Most people I know think it's trash. It sells cards, makes restaurants money, creates photos, makes many singles feel miserable.
Valentine's Day is fucking stupid and this is coming from someone who's had a girlfriend for 5 years. We both love each other every other day of the year, we don't need to prove it to each other and we sure as hell don't have to brag about it social media. Valentine's Day has always been pretty dumb but it's changed into something of a contest to see who loves their SO the most online and it straight up sickens me.
My girl and I don't celebrate it. Relationship goals: attained. But also her birthday and our anniversary are next month. Gets to be too many holidays too close together anyway. But we threw out Valentine's because it's stupid.
I think the idea of a Valentine's Day card is cute but otherwise I don't care.
Revolving rifles need more love in first person shooters.
Revolving rifles need more love in first person shooters.
honestly surprised me that one didn't make it into F:NV, would've been such a great fit
Revolving rifles need more love in first person shooters.
What killed revolving rifles? Was it just an invention that came a bit late ? I know there was problems with unburnt powder in older models
What killed revolving rifles? Was it just an invention that came a bit late ? I know there was problems with unburnt powder in older models
Probably timing. Sure, it was one of the earliest examples of repeating rifles, but we also ended up with the tubular magazine around the same time. Probably also didn't help that rifles and pistols had interchangable ammunition at the time.
Revolving rifles need more love in first person shooters.
There's one in Battlefield 1 which you never see because only pilots can use it, and it isn't that great as it is. It's a shame, revolving rifles are a design that is otherwise ignored in a setting that's pretty short on guns as it is.
Also, i dunno if anyone remembers this game so i think this warrants a post in this thread: Splash Damage. Just. Re-release. Enemy Territory. Quake Wars. Like seriously. I don't get why they're so insistent on trying to recreate the magic of ETQW through new IPs when it'd probably be easier to just replace Activision's login servers with the Steamworks DRM, and all mentions of Activision with Bethesda Softworks.
Arguing for more gun control in the US has been pissing in the wind since 2013, when the response to motherfucking Sandy Hook basically equated to 'eeeeeh, let's not'.
Normal cars are so dull and boring
Late 80's and early 90's had the best designs.
Arguing for more gun control in the US has been pissing in the wind since 2013, when the response to motherfucking Sandy Hook basically equated to 'eeeeeh, let's not'.
Since Sandy Hook, there have been more than 200 gun laws added to "strengthen safety" in various cities and states. Most of those laws have been feel-good laws like bans on features of rifles or magazine limits. Gun control advocates have for years been chipping away at liberties by demanding law abiding, peaceful gun owners to give a mile, and complain when they only get a few feet, but year after year of pushing the same exact legislation that has been shown to be useless at reducing crime has forced many laws through. If you think that gun laws aren't being passed, take a look at California, New York, New Jersey, Washington, Colorado, etc etc.
Arguing for more gun control in the US has been pissing in the wind since 2013, when the response to motherfucking Sandy Hook basically equated to 'eeeeeh, let's not'.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I do not trust our Government to make any decent gun control legislation. The Republicans are useless in the matter and the Democrats just want to ban scary guns rather than try to solve the problem. Mass shootings are one of the trickier things to prevent because we need to address the social conditions that create killers and nobody wants to do that. But people would rather just ban guns instead, but that's also nearly impossible because of the scale involved, so instead we'll just ban a few scary looking things and call it a day. In the end you've got nothing done but a ton of political brownie points for your next campaign, so mission accomplished as far as that goes. I could go on about the real statistics of crime and the media influence that creates this scenario but I'll stop here because I've already gone too far.
I guess some people enjoyed it
I feel like people enjoy it because The Rock is in it and people will watch anything he's in.
You would think the frequent shootings in America would make people want to do something about it, but i feel like there are way to many responses that are just "It's too soon to talk about it", "You don't know anything about guns", "It's not your country, but out", " How about you do something about it" responses. Nobody said that preventing shootings would be easy, but how are you not doing anything about it? It's not the guns or video games/movies/books/music fault here.
My unpopular opinion: The fact that the US has had so many shootings and deaths and that each one sparks endless pointless debates just further proves that the country isn't ready to take the steps needed to combat the problem. The problem goes beyond just guns, it goes beyond just "fund mental healthcare more", it goes beyond background checks, etc. There is something seriously wrong in America and no amount of keyboard warrioring over it will fix it. The people themselves need to feel the need to change within their hearts. They need to WANT to both embrace but also PROMOTE change. This isn't happening, obviously. More people are going to die. It's just plain and simple. Then there will be the usual "hopes and prayers" bullshit and then life will go on because nobody wants to actually make or promote change.
It'd be really helpful first step if we could just come to a consensus on what kind of change is the right kind. That's what the endless debating is about. Everyone wants change, but groups can't come across the aisle and agree on what it is.
With the quickly-increasing death toll being as big as it is - any change should be welcomed. Not to mention many of the possible changes get resisted for purely petty personal reasons which is just disgusting when thousands are dying every year. People don't actually care - they just want to watch out for their own ass.
Inviting any proposed change to the situation just seems reactionary. Changing the situation probably wouldn't be as simple as a bill or even a collective change in mindset. What I think is one of the biggest factors is the sheer availability and volume of guns in America, and that factor isn't going away-- ever, because it's part of the culture, so seeking to replicate other countries to replicate their success in deterring gun violence probably wouldn't work as well. That's why it's easier to turn to changes in how mental health is recognized and treated, because it's something that could actually be done without massive controversy.
Call me pessimistic but I feel like more things nowadays are slowly becoming -half assed -half hearted -underdeveloped -soulless -empty -vapid etc etc More and more companies and corporations are becoming vampires, sucking as much as they can out of one thing and moving onto the next (Looking at you Disney), I haven't even bothered buying/delving into much of anything new within the past year or so because it just feels like another product created by a corporation, instead of people and/or individuals. Maybe I'm just being a debbie downer, who knows.
I think that's just a symptom of getting older honestly.
Not entirely, it also depends on where you're looking, as TheFllmSlacker pointed out. I know in the world of videogames, non-western releases tend to be better, and significantly less filled with anti-consumer bullshit.
I think that's just a symptom of getting older honestly.
I mean, compare kids shows from the 90's to now, pretty much all of them look and feel the same. There are a few good ones, but there aren't a treasure trove compared to 20 years ago. Same thing applies with a lot of stuff. Capitalism is moving in greater effect, where people care more about profits compared to anything else, because they need them to constantly rise.
Dunkey is extremely hit or miss for me
"Pauley, Get the Boulder"
gun control politics in america has been shitty for decades because your country's run by psychopaths who know they've got a hot topic they can wave about come election. In any other country the issues of election time are probably going to be the economy, taxes, and some problem that's cropped up during the last term like the state of hospitals,Immigration, poor service providers or warfare. In the US you can almost permanently scratch some of those debate topics off because some people rank guns as more important and in general everyone's more divided over what extra issues are more important because there's perpetually that extra issue. If you're talking about guns, you're taking time away from talking about taxes or healthcare. The republicans have it easy, the democrats deliberately tie in bullshit, ill thought out gun control policies and group them with some other progressive policies to scare the living shit out of conservatives. The populace will always be divisive but'll ensure everything'll be mixed up enough to keep the status quo It's a one party system with two faces.
Every country has their own problems and issues, and politicians aren't always sensible about dealing with them regardless of geographical location.
I don't like the extra type of videos Cr1tikal is making. All these long streams, "moist meter" reviews and uninteresting podcasts aren't doing anything for me. I only care for the goofy, standard gameplay/dub videos where he's actually funny.
I couldn't disagree more, In Asia those anti consumer practices are 10 times worse than anything someone in NA could ever imagine; to the extent that its considered the norm. People in the US are ignorant of that because the only stuff out of asia that ends up here is stuff that's deemed tolerable enough to us. Otherwise its never translated and we just see nintendo and think oh wow the west sucks!!1

it depends on where you're looking
I don't live in Japan, I don't import Japan's games, if I can't pronounce the title fluidly and immediately, it's probably not on my radar, and the practices in it don't affect me.
and generally speaking the golden age fallacy is pretty much always a symptom of selection bias. People say movies are just soulless cash outs these days, but seemingly forget about all of those shitty and unoriginal black and white movies that were being made as fast as they could film them back in the 50s. Ever hear of The Fly? It's a 1958 movie about a scientist who turns himself into a man fly hybrid, that movie had 5 remakes/sequels and an opera adaption
You don't measure a golden age by all the shit that gets ignored by the future populous, you measure it by all the masterpieces that release during it. I'm sure the Renaissance era had a thousand dog-shit paintings for every stunning work of art. To say "[something] used to be better" as a whole is technically incorrect, but, using a small-scale example, 2016 had around 20 games I really gave a shit about, and 2017 had closer to 10. Thus, 2016, for me, was a better period for games than 2017. How do I know that's not just a symptom of me being one year older? Because we're two months into 2018 and already I've got a list of ~15 games I'm looking forward to or are already out, and there's still 10 months for stuff to get announced.

And the podcast had its moments but they were way too few and far between for me to listen to the rest of it. And I often found the other hosts kind of annoying. Especially when Kaya(?) would go out of his way to politicize everything. I've almost totally fallen off his content. He's a cool guy but I just can't enjoy his stuff much anymore.
