The year's finally coming to an end, and while it has taken so many lives away from us, it has also given us a lot of great music. What are your favourite music releases from this year?
Mine are:

David Bowie's album Blackstar

Sigur Rós' song Óveður

Radiohead's album A Moon Shaped Pool

Swans' album The Glowing Man
Even though it only came out like, a few days ago, Injury Reserve's Floss is definitely in the top 5 rap albums of the year

Speaking of, Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition may very well be my #1 of the year for the genre

In other genres, you have Devin Townsend's Transcendence which is the epitome of progressive metal without a lot of the bullshit (I still love the bullshit but still)

Opeth's Sorceress was actually surprising. I didn't much care for their last album despite really liking Steven Wilson's production, but they brought it back pretty hard for me.

And somewhat off topic, but I still want to mention my udder disdain for Dream Theater post-Mike Portnoy. The Astonishing is REAL bad.

on a similar note, i was looking forward to a new Kaiser Chiefs album this year but as it turns out, it just really sucks (for me at least). when Parachute was released i was sorta hoping it'd just be a one off song and the rest of the album would be more of what i already loved, but that wasn't the case at all. incredibly disappointed by it - so much that for once i haven't even bothered to include it in my collection, and i usually really hate having incomplete discographies but i just have to make this one exception

To be fair, I wasn't looking forward to The Astonishing in any capacity after their last two albums were trash but yeah I get where you're coming from. Sucks having bands you like/liked making nothing but mediocre music.
I'm on my phone so any link is a pita, but Justice's Woman was fantastic, as was whatever deadmau5' new album is called.

the FAT WHITE FAMILY - Songs for our mothers. The best band about. The Band that will save UK music. The Band that will save London. The Band that will hose down matt healy and his 'indie' compatriots with a machine gun for their crimes against music.

I forgot about Act V and Magma. it's been a real good year for music.
This album was pretty fun.

If These Trees Could Talk - The Bones of a Dying World (post rock/post metal)
Yeah, the album name is angsty as fuck, and I know the instrumental rock/metal scene is often associated with edgelords, but hey, you can't argue with superb atmosphere and song composition.
Favorite song off said album - Solstice

Jeff Rosenstock - WORRY

My favourite album of the year has to be The Last Stand by Sabaton.
Can't wait for 2017 too... SYSTEM OF A DOWN'S NEW ALBUM WILL BE OUT AT LONG LAST! :excited:
Weezer - White Album
Radiohead - Moon Shaped Pool
Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Getaway
Tony Molina - Confront the Truth
Album (tie between this and Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition)

EP

Song

iamthemorning - Lighthouse
i randomly decided to check this out knowing nothing about the band. this album is really neat and kind of hard to describe, but they call it "chamber prog"

Deftones - Gore
not that great by Deftones standards tbh, but i still enjoyed this album a lot, and it had some seriously great gems like this track

Carly Rae Jepsen - E·MO·TION Side B
not only does she release the best pop album of 2015, but she follows it up with the best pop album (well, technically an EP) of 2016 even though it's only b-sides from the last album. every track is a banger

Vektor - Terminal Redux
super kickass technical thrash concept album, not much else to say about it, it just rules hard

Haken - Affinity
i could hardly give a shit about the other tracks on this album, but earthrise is the most hilariously, amazingly cheesy blend of prog metal and 80's pop ever conceived, and potentially with the greatest music video of all time

other favorites like blackstar, amsp, and transcendence were already mentioned so i won't spam more videos
my top would be We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service bye a Tribe Called Quest

[editline]19th December 2016[/editline]
also Descendents - Hypercaffium Spazzinate

for my favorite live album, Clean Your Clock by Motörhead
Vektor - Terminal Redux

Aww fuck forgot about that one. Almost went to see them live but work happened sadly.

I was gonna reply to this with my favorite song from the album but I can't figure out what it is
Perturbator's Uncanny Valley was great, shame it came out a hell of a lot later than they planned for it to release. Still a great album though, a great listen!

Kemba - Negus
Kevin Abstract - American Boyfriend
Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love!

albums:
The Wytches - All Your Happy Life
Perturbator - The Uncanny Valley
Eagulls - Ullages
Savages - Adore Life
Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
Iggy Pop - Post Pop Depression
Bowie would probably be on here too but I've not got around to listening to Blackstar because of how sad the whole thing is

you really should give the album a listen and let that emotion carry you through, it's a really damn good album

+1 for Woman, not all terrific and kind of strayed from the noisy awe Justice is famous for but a really solid album to cap off the 5+ year hiatus.

I couldn't agree with this any more, I seriously think it's one of the most underrated albums of 2016.

Shout outs also to Hamilton Leithauser/Rostam's I Had A Dream That You Were Mine and the new Preoccupations album as well as Mark Pritchard's Under The Sun purely for one track. (And of course A Moon Shaped Pool from the feature.)
